I was playing on MAME last night and I was using my custom stick. It uses a PSX PCB and after having my buttons set for MAME I decided to play some SFA3 today on the PS2 and for some reason the buttons aren’t working properly. Why do I do to map them back out to PSX settings?
It’s basically going out of whack on the PS2. When I press start at the options screen on A3 it acts like my triangle button and cancels back to the main screen. And when I tried configuring the buttons it gave me a pink highlight on Light Punch.
I’ll try again and see what happens.
EDIT - OK. It’s my start button that is acting looney tunes. The punches and kicks works fine and so does the stick. But, it’s the start button that isn’t working. Also, when I play SFA3 it basically goes into random select mode with the cursor going all over the place.
Unless you actually take your buttons out and switch them around, changing the button configuration on MAME isn’t going to do shit to the PSX PCB… If anything it’ll be a wiring fault… Unfortunately my experience barely stretches past modding so someone else will have to take it from here…
So, it’s the start and select buttons that are out of whack. If I get into the game via another controller, I’m fine. But, then the cursor is running all over the character select screen. But, when I’m in a match, everything works fine except for the aforementioned start and select buttons.
Sounds like start and select are shorted together or with another button. If you have a multi meter, place on end on the start hot spot (not the ground) and then touch the other end of the multi meter to each other hot connection. There should be no continuity whatsoever. If there is, that’s where the problem is.
With some Dreadfist assist I managed to solve the problem. It seemed that the start and select button wires were overlapping each causing some sort of cross connection. Since the, I just adjust both wires to the bottom of the punches and kicks and all is gravy. Thanks to those that gave advice. But, I would imagine this is what your probably getting at Nitewalker. Sorry, if I didn’t understand initially. Kinda new to this stick stuff.
