Hi!
I’m planning to do a hitbox (PC and PS3) and i need some help from the experts here.
I played most of my life with a keyboard and never got really used to a arcade stick.
The PCB’s i saw a lot of people using was Dual Strike and ps360+ but they are a little expensive.
After some search i saw the ZD Arcade Control Enconder and is only 13$.
The main problem are the SOCD. I don’t know either if there are any issues pressing down+up or left+right. Or will I need an SODC cleaner?
I have here a board from a old Mayflash Arcade Stick. I know its easy to mod.
It’s SOCD really a big problem? I hear that its only a problem in Capcom games, its that true?!
And you don’t know the best part. Here in Portugal we have a tax called “Alfandegária Tax”. If I buy a product online, outside Europe, and the product cost me more than 45€ (60$), I have to pay a tax. The tax is 20% of the product price + shipping I bought.
If you’re not a tournament player, an socd cleaner isn’t totally necessary, but you will be missing out on a ton of cool stuff you can do with a hitbox by using socds to your advantage.
I can’t speak for P4A, but I know that Skullgirls has protection against SOCD in the software, which is part of the reason I didn’t bother with one when building my hybrid.
Theres only 1 or 2 games total that has a issue in SOCD for fighting games, only one that comes to mind is the original Marvel vs Capcom 3. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 fixed the issue.
When this saw discussion last year, Evo explicitly allowed SOCD-capable all button controllers. I think most other BYOC events tacitly allow SOCD controllers. (For example, I was unable to find discussion of it in the UFGT rules.) As has been discussed elsewhere, the OEM controllers will often allow SOCD, and organizers are very reluctant to ban them.
Its more of a Grey area. EVO does not have the time, manpower or resources to check for SOCD, as game pads and regular arcade sticks (with minor modding) are also capable of SOCD.
So Evo is allowing Hitboxes. Taking advantage of a SOCD glitch is grounds for disqualification.
Hitbox should be fine so long as L/R and U/D are either last input or neutral with SOCD. The only issue is when you get simultaneous inputs both registering.
Its not even a issue in most games. Very few games has a SOCD exploit like the original Marvel vs Capcom 3. Actually likes like DDR and Pop’n Music needs SOCD (2 opposite directions working ta the same time) for the game to work.
I don’t see anything about deliberate glitching as grounds for DQ, or a categorical ban on SOCD glitching. (Of course, EVO has final say, and the glitches may violate some other rules that do call for DQ.)
