Help on using/executing FADC, and actual usefulness of it's use in game

I’m far from being a novice in SF4 and fighting games in general. Since SSF4 came out I have learned to “parry” and chancel block strings with the FADC very well, but I can’t properly execute the FADC to string out my combos. The input window seems to escape me every time. EX: DP<FADC<Ultra. It always fails to get that dash in time to input the Ultra or Special Move, or will do the FA instead of dashing.

What am I doing wrong? I do the other two well, but not this one. Is it also really that useful to use this to start with as well? I don’t see it used a lot, and was just looking for help on doing it myself.

I play Ryu. He cannot FADC out of his HP DP. I’m not sure if other characters are like this.

If was trying to DP > FADC > Ultra, I’d use the LP DP with my pointer finger and FA with my middle finger on MP and thumb on MK. If you’re having trouble with the timing of it, practice doing a DP and then cancelling into a FA, not a FADC. Once you get the timing for that, all you have to do is dash before the FA comes out.

In all honesty I don’t think it’s that important to focus on as a beginner. There are other things that are more important to improve your game than FADC combos.

That being said, the way I do it when I play Ryu and try to do DP FADC U1 is the following(I play on a stick):

  • input the DP(usually lp or mp, occasionally EX. HP cannot be FADCed)
  • press and HOLD mk/mp
  • dash
  • release mk/mp during the dash

Practice that in training mode until you get it down, then try to do the input for ultra. You’ll get it eventually.

Sorry about the HP DP confusion. I was aware it can’t be FADC to Ultra. I was just throwing out an example and didn’t catch the HP DP typo.

Thanks for the advice on it. I use practice mode attempting to execute this. It’s gotten to the point were I can EX Focus Cancel easily, and parry well, but at was starting to think I was doing something wrong and needed to be verified.

I’ve gotten to this point and I had a lot of trouble getting the Ultra out. It was always too slow, it didn’t come out at all, or I got an EX DP. Even when I landed it, I knew I was doing it wrong because I’d look at my inputs and it looked like a drunken 4 year old was spazzing out on the controller.

To correct this, I went back to the FADC point. When I dashed, I made sure I hit forward twice. Not three times, not twice with a down-forward arrow mixed in. Just 2 forward arrows. With practice, this shouldn’t be too difficult.

Once I got that down, I would SLOWLY perform the exact Ultra motion. It didn’t matter if the training dummy already fell to the ground. All I was looking for was QCF QCF PPP. I did that for a looong time until I was able to speed it up more and more.

I’ve still never done it in a real match, but now I can do it 66%-75% of the time in training mode. The inputs are never perfect, but they look a lot better than they used to.

I wish I could execute like Sakonoko. I watched a replay from an online match of his and seriously that guy seldomly does more inputs than necessary. That shit looks textbook, it’s crazy.
When I look at my inputs it’s a fucking mess.

Don’t focus and then dash. Focus and dash at the same time.

Instead of hitting:
MP+MK, then forward, forward

Input:
MP+MK(hold)+forward, forward (release MP+MK)

For DP FADC Ultra I fixed my execution errors by doing this

Forward Down Down-Forward Forward (HOLD) LP, MP+MK Forward, QCF x2, PPP.

After inputting the DP motion I buffer the forward so that after the EX focus cancel, tapping forward once more dashes. This gives me plenty of time to input the QCFx2.
