Help! My monitor has two video ports

Hello,

I own a widescreen Dell monitor that has both a DVI-D and a VGA port. I had the idea that I can plug my PS3’s video to the monitor through a DVI-D to HDMI cable (I have already checked to make sure the monitor is HDCP compliant).

Since I can plug my monitor into my PC through the VGA port, am I able to have the monitor plugged into the PS3 and PC at the same time and have them work? How would I tell the monitor whether it gets the signal from the PC or the PS3?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

There should either be a button that says Source, of if you go to the Monitor Setup menu, there should be an option for the inputs and which one to currently look at. And yeah, you can have them both on at the same time, and it will work, but I think since it detects two signals, it would be black and you’d have to choose manually.

Thanks for your help. Just waiting for my DVI to HDMI adapter to arrive now…

Im not sure how the source settings work on your monitor, but I will assure you that the actual devices will display, from both items even if they’re both plugged in. (They won’t show at the same time of course. But you’ll be able to switch back and fourth).
