Hi guys, total SF nub here, and I’ve been playing SF since I downloaded HD remix around 1 week after it came out. So far Vega is giving me a lot of trouble… I mainly play Chun Li… and I heard she has an advantage over Vega… but Vega in general beats me like crazy… and help?
it has been 4 years, is vega still giving you trouble?
I play as chun li for the most part as well. A good vega is defantly my hardest match up. If chun li has an advantage over vega i dont know what it is. Against him you absolutely have to be aggressive and rush him down. Once you get a knock down, stay on him and dont let him escape. If you are passive and try to turtle you are gonna get fucked up. Most vegas that ive encountered try to keep me away with crouching jab over and over again tell he has enough distance to do a wall dive. Then just wall dive back and forth from each wall. This can be hard for chun as she doesnt have an immedate reverse like ken or ryu. Also vega will just do the crouching jab to keep you away and when you jump in, he will flip kick you. This too situation is my biggest problems. Mainly i will wait for an oppertunity to get a knock down. One i get one ill rush him down. With tap throws and knock down combos. Hitting him high then low then high then jump forward meduim kick. And keep switching back and forth with all of that. Agaisnt vega tap throws are a must imo. If you let him escape your in trouble. Also if you know hes gonna wall dive, there are several counters. Too much to type it all out. Basically you just need to be really aggressive. Knock him down, stay on him, and dont let him escape. Goodluck
As Chun, jumping mp or mk (or lp/lk) work at keeping wall dives out. Chun has the upper hand in the air (as long as you’re not whiffing special moves) so you can play defensively with safe jumps and give him a little space. Standing roundhouse is another option to use to screw up Vega’s sense of timing with wall dives, and her reversal works if he’s trying to come at you on a knock down.
Offensively, yes, as with most characters against Vega, rush down is very effective. Forward walking Chun’s mp (ticking into the throw) can really overpower Vega- whose throw buttons don’t work at all as close range pokes. Plus you have the neckbreaker to use as an extra mix up which will usually stuff Claw’s flipkick reversal if you position it properly. Neckbreaker is also a very good move to throw at him after a knockdown, since he has to stand up and lose his charge to block it- which allows you another throw/poke/special mixup if you didn’t already score another hit.
