also which version of SF4? PC? PS3? 360? lol it’d be fucked up if they went with the PC version. They end up getting people who use turbo and macros cause this guy supports it lol http://www.zeeshan.de/sf4pc/sf4pc.htm
lol after all how can we argue against the top SF4 PC player that doesn’t cheat to modify his GP score?
You’re just going to keep saying random ass shit in the name of fear tactics, aren’t you?
MLG owns hundreds of 360s. They’re getting a bunch of PS3s for Tekken, which logic dictates would probably also be used for SFIV for scheduling reasons. Are you fucking serious, really?
They’re valid concerns and opinions created the last time we tried to join up with mlg.
You nor mlg has yet to address any of the concerns of the people of the FGC that were here back when we first did a joint promotion with them. I’m just supposed to take them on blind faith right? Despite they not having done anything what so ever to suggest that if we gave them a 2nd chance that it’d be any different this time.
It would most likely be an Xbox 360 because that’s where the majority of their games are played. There is practically a 0% chance that it would be played on the pc (which is absolutely horrible), bring it up is just stupid.
People are simply hating on mlg for the he’ll o it at this point, which is fine, funny, but fine. They may have not cared about older titles years before, but here they are extending their hand to the newer games and now some people don’t want it. MLG picks up sf4 all that will happen is there will be another event that hosts a sf4 tournament. No one needs this but hey can’t hurt to have it, all my opinion of course.
People are hating on MLG because they suck. Why is it that the only people supporting MLG in this thread are people that just registered this year or last year? Who weren’t around the last time MLG screwed us. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?
at the end of the day we don’t need MLG. We really don’t, they aren’t doing us any favors. All they can offer us is a lot of displeasure with the slim possibility of getting paid (big bucks though, I will admit that). and for the majority of us who won’t make the team, it just doesn’t do anything for us. I’d rather goto a local tournament and have a chance to win the money than watch a stream of MLG SF4 action.
As I see it, the only thing MLG will really bring to the scene are new players (plenty of scrubs, but I’m sure some will be good), and televised tournaments. Yeah, we already have live streams of tournaments and announcers, it’s just another outlet for me to watch a tourney with friends.
The prize money gets chipped down by taxes and any stupid corporate bullshit, so the payout won’t really change. There will still be plenty of underground tournaments and other “majors” not controlled by MLG, so the community as a whole won’t change. It’s just like when a local band gets signed to a major label, yeah plenty of people will think they “sold out” and preferred their independent status, but on the other hand they will have better production values, more shows, and more exposure.
EDIT: I joined SRK in '07 and Dustloop in like '06, and while I missed the MLG '05 disaster, I was never really a fan of MLG in the first place. So while people may or may not have been hype about MLG partnering with Evo before they fucked up, I think it should be said that we as a community will be much more skeptical about this and that is a good thing. By at least discussing it in threads like this we are thinking it through and not just leaping headlong into another assfuck.
MLG would totally ruin a scene that so many actual fighting game players worked hard to build up themselves. Leave that garbage ass site and everything about it for the likes of 13 year old Halo-tards.
They tried this shit on NeoGAF, too. Ban these damn scrubs.
I’ve never taken an issue with those. If you really can’t stand waiting for a cheque, or it never showed up and you don’t trust the system, well fuck, I can hardly blame you for that. Personal experience colours opinion.
Shit like LOL THEY’LL BAN AKUMA AND PLAY ON PC WITH MACROS AND YOU’LL HAVE TO WORK FOR MLG FOR SUB-MINIMUM WAGE AND PLAY ONLINE TO BE ALLOWED IN TOURNAMENTS THEN SUCK HALO PLAYERS COCKS WHILE GOING TO LOCAL TOURNAMENTS AND SMASHING THEIR TVs is where I have to take issue, because that’s just stupid.
Another question. How will this affect the supposed return of APEX? Or has it’s return be scrapped?
EDIT
Correct me if I’m wrong, but they do use online qualifiers for their tournaments no? At least, they use online to seed people, right? Or am I reading that wrong?
Gamebattles kiddies get seeded a bit higher than people who show up without having won anything. Anybody whose placed in actual tournaments completely trumps them though. You might get weird seeds once or twice, but the same thing happens with the inconsistent seeding systems used in other tournaments. At least there’s an established system in place.
Justin Wong had some sort of ridiculously undefeated record on Gamebattles in the months right after SFIV came out anyways.
Know what I should apologize, I’m indifferent on the matter. I don’t know about the whole evo mlg thing minus what was said in this thread, however I do think all this bashing is somewhat unfound in that it’s based on an occurance 5 years ago(or more recent years, I’m not in the know). Reading that link to TZ with a post by Gran_Calc explaining how things have changed, I’m just not quick to write it off as terrible. If anything it can only add to the community as opposed to take away(unless someone can explain why it could cus I’m legit curious). Just my thoughts :]
I believe that they run a small online tournament prior to the actual tournament and the top 256 (or some other number) players of that tournament will be given the option to buy their passes. This will really only be used to weed out the bad players that try to sign up and to set seeds for only the first tournament. Even if top players don’t like playing online and the fact that some players may get higher seeds than they deserve because of some online BS, its just for the first event. If Justin Wong signs up, decides to be lazy and only place 250 or something, but then goes to the event, stomps on everyone and wins it, then he gets #1 seed on the next tourney. Everyone in about the top 64 keeps their previous place and then the rest are thrown back into the online thing to fight for the rest of the passes and seeds. I believe thats how it works but the numbers will probably vary based on the number of passes mlg permits.
It definatly has it’s flaws, but it’s not that bad of a system.
So if I’m reading right, and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but you HAVE To compete in the online tournament to get a “pass”? So that means that someone can’t just go, “Hmm…tourney in my area today, I think I’ll go”? Just trying to clarify.
wait so my opinion is valid based on when i singed up on this site? i have been a member of the fighting game community for a long time online since the begining of soul calibur 2, and offline for like 16 years. i may not know all the history from evo 2k5 but i know current mlg setup better than most of you here and i know more about the fighting game community than most mlg posters.
anyway, mlg is not stupid they know online fighting games are just for fun and cant be competitive and if this happens i am sure they will keep communication with the community to know whats acceptable and what is not.
do you guys really believe that 5 years later mlg is still the same company?
From my experience MLG was instrumental in bringing more players into the Melee scene back in the day, and it could do that for SF4 as well. More big money tournaments is always a good thing in my book.
There’s a petition up for this on event hubs, I would encourage everyone to sign that.
anyone can buy a pass without touching the online ladders… you are just seeded below the players that did get online points, which mean nothing anyway because you could get like 1,000 1st place finishes online and still be seeded worse than someone who placed 256th offline in one tournament
