Help bring SF4 to MLG stage

I signed it.

I want to see more tournaments for SF4 period. Where I live, there are not any local tournaments, and it really gets on my nerves.

The more tournaments the better.

I believe that MLG can handle running an SF4 setup.

Someone earlier said that ‘MLG is for MLG’ and I agree… but it is in their best interest to do it CORRECTLY.

Do I think the community will split? No, but I do believe there will be an awkward transition phase… which we are seeing the start of right now. SF4 deserves better coverage.

If you are still against this thing, I ask you to brew a nice hot cup of tea and just think about shit and ask yourself why

But dose the street fighter community really need MLG?

personally I see as being a waste of time.

You will get players like me who are on the bandwagon at the begin then quickly loose interest.(I want to try and become more involved tho)

You should also think how it effects the local scene and event like EVO and SBO.

But in the end I think it should be the local communitys that bring street fighter and fighting games into the mainstream by building a solid foundation which I believe corporations like cant do MGL.

Is bring SF to the MLG really a good idea?

I laughed when people said a reason MLG should be accepted is because we need more people in on SFIV.

Like we didn’t have a lot people playing it or something.

MLG won’t effect the SF4 community, this is baseless fear-mongering. There are plenty of local Halo and Smash scenes that carry on despite MLG. And to fathom something like this putting a small dent in EVO is absurd. Be rational.

Holy shit you people are selfish as fuck.

Two years ago we could barely get people to give a shit about our ‘genre’ and the games we were playing.

Now, apparently, we don’t have enough competition?

One THOUSAND people at Evo for one game isn’t enough?

Tournaments literally EVERY damn weekend isn’t enough?

Going from 3-5 reputable majors a year to over 10 (hell, the number keeps growning) isn’t enough?

Unappreciative little fucks.

Damn.

Quality players > Quantity. Imho.

Players you’ll never meet, though, and more players means more sequels. Why do the fanatics not learn to think like the company that gives them their games? If Capcom thought like people here they would have stopped at Super Turbo and called it a day.

I personally don’t see what’s selfish about wanting even more events really, well I guess it would depend on how it’s worded.

Local communities aren’t mainstream. That’s like suggesting pickup basketball bringing it into the mainstream instead of the NBA, or your local short track bringing auto racing into the mainstream instead of NASCAR. It doesn’t work like that. You kind of need unified organization for a national presence.

Plenty of people will say they don’t give a fuck about fighting games being mainstream, and that’s a somewhat more defensible, if possibly self-destructive position. If your idea of a “healthy community” is that most of the dudes you already play with are going to be there in the short term future, I think you may have missed the mark a bit. That’s a social position, not a competitive one.

“Why do we need MLG?” Why the fuck do you need anything more than Evo, really? That hardly seems like the kind of question that should be getting asked.

I honestly don’t see a big problem if MLG picks up SF4 or SSF4. We don’t HAVE to go to their tournaments, we can still go to just EVO if we want. If it turns out they’re doing a good job then yay. If not then whatever it’ll die on its own.

If the FG community doesn’t need it, then it shouldn’t be a problem if it’s going to happen or not.

what a pitiful, lazy mentality to have. I feel sort of bad for you.

Evo vs MLG! Say that SSFIV does take off, then what would Shoryuken get hit with the 09ers again? Though the money is always welcomed if thats possible, we could play on JAPANESE Machines than the consoles? I think that professionally, sales for the game would go up though the competition would be more than EVo2k9 and lets hope that MLG’s tourney doesn’t land on the same day as EVO.

MLG still hasn’t turned profile. Fuck it. I hope nobody signs it. Coming from being associated with them I suggest you take my advice and let that piece of shit organization die.

When they have players who aren’t even in the top 100 representing their associated teams and pay them more then the true players who really have passion and dedication I have a problem with it.

MLG still hasn’t paid the SC2 winners from 6 fuckin’ years ago! Fuck that!

lol

If people understood how low and dry things were before Street Fighter 4 dropped, and compare it to how absurdly lively and active things are now, you would realize that the need for MLG is completely non existant. I may be running an old man mentality here but if you can appreciate and acknowledge the humble beginings of it all then the notion that continuing matters in our hands isn’t such a far fetched possibility.

Going from so little to so much, and then jumping several more notches higher tends to breed the wrong type of mentality. But hey, maybe we could handle it.

Who knows?

:looney:

I’m going to repost something I posted elsewhere to state why we DON’T want SFIV at MLG:

in that SC game…why only 1 round?

Most people seem to be assuming that MLG picking up SF4 must be good for the FGC. Why is this such a great deal for us?

[*]“Exposure:” Really? I’ve been gaming a long time and I see MLG content maybe a handful of times a YEAR. Occasionally some gaming blog will run a story on them or I will see one of their top 10 videos. IMO MLG isn’t exactly mainstream even among gamers, and the only real exposure this is going to get the FGC is to a bunch of Halo players.

[*]More money: Prize money is nice, but it’s only going to benefit the 12 or so guys who can consistently win some. And even MLG’s prizes are no where NEAR enough money to earn a living.

[*]More tournaments: “More tournaments” sound good, but I think it’s being over-valued in this thread. The fact is there are already about a dozen high quality early tournaments put on by the FGC, and there’s a risk that MLG events will not live up to the same quality as Seasons Beatings, MWC, etc. Even the recent Tekken World Championship used laggy TVs, so even the best-meaning organizations can screw up an event if they haven’t done their homework. I call this a wash for now. It could end up being a benefit or you could end up with some so-so MLG tournaments that drown out the awesome regional tournaments we already have.

I’ll wrap up by tying a nice bow around what other people in this thread have hinted at. I question MLG’s motives. MLG did not give a flying fuck about fighting games until SF4 came out and they could sell the SF brand to Ballpark Franks (the incident that got the in trouble with Capcom in the first place). Now all of a sudden they care deeply about the FGC and want to add Street Fighter to their roster to grow the community. Really? It seems to me that MLG needs the FGC way more than we need the MLG.

My question is, do you really want SF4 to be a part of this?

Also, this.

Their motives aren’t really important unless you just enjoy that type of discussion. It’s what they do is it not? Like someone said before, if it does good then great, if it fucks up it’ll die on it’s own, it won’t affect anything(unless you can say how it can cus i’m still curious).

This community is fun to be a part of, I wouldn’t mind it keep going forward.

Oh and lol at what some people said about players of other games, I mean really now.
