There are some serious problems with the Xbox360 wireless headset that MS is refusing to do anything about. This has nothing to do with Ed or his work, nor is it something he can ‘fix’ because there is nothing wrong with the stick.

The only 100% way to get a heatset going on xbox360 is to use a wired one; as you can see, the wireless headsets have some problems. </understatement>
According to that vid, ms did acknowledge the problem, and it seems to be a problem with the old controllers, not the headset. If that’s the case, the madcatz controller that ed is using probably suffers from the same problem and will never work with the wireless headset and should be changed. I’m going to have to swap it out for an official ms controller pcb.
I didn’t get the headset jack since I simply used an extension cable. Isn’t the plug just a standard 2.5mm input? I know the Elite controller I have simply has a 2.5mm input. If so, you can use any 2.5" cell phone headset. You don’t need a special Xbox version. I bought the Plantronics mx500 and it’s definitely much better than the stock headset.
I’ve ignored this thread long enough. Sorry for the lack of replies. The earlier post I made about my wife going into labor was a false alarm, but it did cause some alarm. Since then we have been closely monitoring the baby. It’s was a stressful few weeks.
Now the baby is here and she is perfect. Sorry I didn’t update this earlier, I know I posted about it in the arizona thread and completely forgot about this thread. Sticks are starting to fly out tomorrow (friday). Should be getting a good 5-6 out a day until X-mas. All orders before Nov15 will be there in time for Christmas.
Damdai,
Unplug the extension headset cable from the pad and I bet the wireless headset will work. Even having an extension cable plugged in causes the 360 to think a headset is plugged into that stick.
Now sometimes the pads are retarded and think a mic is plugged in even when it isn’t. That doesn’t happen often.
Otherwise, any decent 2.5mm jack headset will work. My last batch of pads are a newer revision, so I will keep my eye out and see if the issues pop up still.
DagV,
It was sent out a while ago. I’m pretty sure he has it by now, sorry I don’t have any pics.
I dissected a 360 wired headset to remove the white plastic piece, but the jack would not fit. The hole was big enough, but it felt loose inside and wouldn’t lock into place. Are you sure it’s a 2.5mm hole that you use and not 3.5?
Sorry for not reading the whole thread (it’s looonnnggg) but do you wire up DC pcb’s too Ed? You don’t have it listed on your site and converters can crap out on you. Thanks!
No problem Damdai, I figured that was the issue. When the new arcadeinabox.com site is finally finished, I will make sure I add that information.
I have never tried to disect a 360 headset to work. Though someone else told me something similar. It’s weird that they would use a slightly smaller plug.
Congratulations Ed. I was the one who emailed you about bat top sanwa sticks and sent a few images to test out. Our correspondence seemed to end. Is it a bad time or is something amiss?
Ed, I placed an order with you on Nov 26th. Any chance I may see my stick before the end of the year? I understand that you’re super busy with the holidays and being a new dad, but I figured I’d ask. Congrats-
