Hello, from Arcade-In-A-Box (10% Off Coupon SRK10)

What exactly is the optional 360 Overlay?

I might pawn my Hori Fighting Stick towards one of these.

That’s the printed top. Customized however you want.

Without the overlay the top is just black, or white if you prefer.

Ed: good info. I’ve been wanting to get a stick for a while now but lack the man-skills necessary to make my own. Your XB360 stick looks really nice, but I have a couple of questions:

  1. How does the Mag-Stik Plus work? The description on your site says it can be switched from 4 to 8-way from the top on the fly, but I see no obvious switch. I’m looking to use the stick for XBLA titles like Galaga, in addition to fighting games, and this stick seems like it’s my best choice.

  2. For custom overlays: can you do an overlay for a buyer-provided image? Or does it specifically have to come from your library of overlays?

Thanks in advance, and good work!

NINJA EDIT - Just saw the answer to #2 on your site. Disregard.
NINJA EDIT 2 - I got off my ass and found the answer to #1 on the net, so disregard that one too. Thanks anyway!

Hey Ed, if you’re going to offer the Japanese curved layout does that mean you’ll soon be offering Sanwa or Seimitsu screw in buttons?

  1. What you do is Lift up the stick, and turn it. When you lift it, a little piece of metal catches, then when you spin it flips the switch. It’s pretty cool.

My only complaint about these joysticks is their “Play”. They are very tight. You move the stick maybe 1/8" before the switch is activated. Then it doesn’t move much more past that.

2)Of course. The collection of artwork I have is actually arcade restoration artwork and it barely ever used as it is. I just use that art to create other stuff. If you go to my site, and go to the 360 solo page, you will see I added templates to be downloaded for the different layouts.

For an example, I had a recent customer that liked Galaga, so I did this using the galaga side art.

I can do Sanwa buttons now, sort of. I need to actually buy a few to see exactly how to mount them in 3/4" wood. I may need to route out underneath.

My only gripe with your sticks is that I would prefer the button layout to be inverted, AKA

X, Y, LB
A, B, RB

instead of

A, B, RB
X, Y, LB.

Not a problem, if you decide to buy one, just add in the comments section during checkout exactly how you want it and I’ll take care of it.

Picture of the inside of my box, like requested ;).

Your wiring is not scary like MAS’s. Also, what joystick is that in the picture? It looks very strange.

Sorry, meant to mention that.

It’s an ultimarc Magstick Plus (the 4way/8way switchable). I have custom mounting plates I put on them so they can be swapped out for a happ sick if need be.

Much thanks for the response! :bgrin:

how much take for a ps2 with regular happ joystick and buttons?

DanSC,
I’ve had a few requests for other systems as well. I’m working on that now.

Let me ask you all, what do you think is a fair price for a custom sticks for systems like PS2, Xbox, and Dreamcast?

How well do the PS2 to Xbox convertors work for fighting games when using them on the Xbox? I ask because if they work well, it might be better to just sell the one with the adapter and say for PS2 and Xbox.

I have a few of the adapters, I guess I could try them out ;).

If I think I can come in at what you think is a reasonable price, then I will probably start doing them.

^^i dont know about the others, but for me $90 is the max that i can pay for those old gen system, as for adapter, i dont prefer adapter cause i had bad experienced with it, it act slower and stop working after a while…so are you gonna accept my request buddy?

Ed_Farias: I find that MAS is a good indicator of the prices you should be charging for older gen systems. Their product offers aprox. the same level of quality as yours. I’d say you have the edge in customization options, but of course those extra options add to the cost.

MAS right now seems to be $155 for their Xbox 360 stick (just like yours), and for PS2 it’s $95 so I would say DanSC was close to the mark.

Now, I have a question for you. I noticed you offer a Sanwa JLF Joystick as an upgrade. What about Sanwa buttons? (Or Seimitsu parts?)

^^hum, i thought Mas sticks were alot cheaper since they use happ parts…

You can buy lag free PS1/2 to whatever adapters for every system except for Xbox 360.

I can get Seimitsu joysticks. I still need to get some sanwa buttons to make sure I can get them in 3/4 wood. I’m sure it isn’t a problem, and I’m sure others have done it. I just want to make sure before making it an option. I’ll order some next week.

Are seimitsu buttons as well?

Could be, my base price would probably start around theirs, then go up with the options like it does now. I’ll have to crunch some numbers and see if I can get close to that price at a base model. If I can get gamepads super cheap, and they are much easier to solder than a 360 pad, I might be able to make that mark. Suggestions on cheap, good pads, would help me out :).

Thanks gang

Seimitsu also make buttons. As you probably know, the Sanwa buttons are offered in 24mm and 30mm either “snap-in” style or “screw-in” style. Seimitsu offeres the same options (24mm and 30mm snap/screw). My understanding is that you’d need to use the screw-in type buttons but I am not a stick builder so maybe someone else can chime in with mounting information. For your own reference, these are the part numbers for buttons.

Sanwa 30mm Snap-in: OBSF-30
Sanwa 24mm Snap-in: OBSF-34
Sanwa 30mm Screw-in: OBSN-30
Sanwa 24mm Screw-in: OBSN-24

Seimitsu 30mm Snap-in: PS-14-K (or PS-14-G)
Seimitsu 24mm Snap-in: PS-14-D
Seimitsu 30mm Screw-in: PS-14-GN
Seimitsu 24mm Screw-in: PS-14-DN

Edit: I noticed whichever Xbox 360 PCB you are wiring to doesn’t use common ground. I believe it was Jaxel and Toodles who discovered that the new gamestop “mini” pads do. They’re rebranded MadCatz MicroCon controllers. Jaxel has said when purchasing in store, he paid $20, but on their website they’re listed at $30. Not sure if it would save you any manufacturing costs or not, but I am sure with a common ground it would save you manufacturing time. Here’s the link if you’re interested. http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product_id=802217

Now from what I gather, there is a “rev B” stamped on the PCB, and this is the only one the guys here have cracked open so it is possible there is a “rev A” floating around that doesn’t have a common ground but so far I haven’t heard anyone who’s gotten one.

All the best Ed, keep up the great work.

Thanks for the info.

I do have a MicroCon controller that I wired up. It might have been a bit faster, but I’m not if it’s worth the extra money for them just yet. I can solder a madcatz pad in about 15-20 minutes now. Though the common ground would save on time crimping :).

Maybe I will look into swapping over to them if I can find them elsewhere. Gamestop cancelled my last order of 10 gamepads because “I went over the per customer limit” Even though I had placed numerous orders of 5. Maybe that’s the magic number. Though Toys r us didn’t have a problem with the 15 I ordered, so who knows :).

Again, thanks for all of the info, gonna copy and paste it.
