Hello, from Arcade-In-A-Box (10% Off Coupon SRK10)

“Battle your opponents, not your controllers”

“Thumbs are not used for fighting”

Er, something to that effect

“Because you don’t punch people with your thumbs.”

I just noticed this, Ed.

Not concerning actual products available, but maybe add a “gallery” section, and post up pics of each of the sticks you make. The 1 pic with the X360 controller just does not do your work justice.

Market that product! :woot:

Yeah, Keep Arcade-in-a-box, but i got a few question though, are you going to remove the arcade in a box and the jamma in a box from the website? and what are the new updates? and i think you shold do something about the dual xbox 360 joystick, why would anyone buy a dual joystick with the option of buying two single joystick for the same price??

and finally since this is the thread of your company “Arcade-in-a-box”, it would be a good idea that you post some pictures of your shop in the front page or something, and when you update your website put the Joysticks Status, that way you wont get those enoying: Whats the Status on my Joystick??-type of question.

and the Slogan should be: “Because Arcade Games were meant to be played with a Joytick”

I was going to say, it would be a PITA to change the actual “Arcade-In-A-Box”, considering it’s an LLC.

I love the idea of the “status” option. I feel guilty any time I wonder how mine is coming along, knowing that Ed has a lot more customers than just myself. Being able to check the status without being intrusive would be an excellent addition.

custom arcade controllers
professionally hand-made arcade sticks
Real. Custom. Joysticks.
put the joy back in your stick (sorry)
because arcades don’t use joypads
the real arcade experience
kill your joypad
just say no to joypads
even pacman didn’t use a joypad
we eat joypads… and shit fireballs (sorry again)

STICKS and stones may brakemy bones but PADS will NEVER touch me.

^ that just came into my head.

‘Nails are important to women, That’s why they use sticks.’ <-------- don’t ask me why I said that… That one just came up too…

‘Don’t be a prick and get a stick.’ EDIT: crap… I thought this was for sticks… ’

You’re making your own console?!?!?!?!?!

I’ll hit up a few slogans later…

Yeah, the arcade-in-a-box home console is leaving the site. There hasn’t been a lot of interest in that over the past year. I can see the market shift, which is why I started making single controllers as well.

Although it’s the product that started the company, it will actually be a nice weight off my shoulders not having to deal with countless emails on it anymore. Especially because no one ever buys it anymore :).

The plans will stay on the site, but will be free.

The Jamma-In-A-Box will stay as well. I think it goes hand and hand with this market as playing on real arcade hardware is always something people are interested in. However, that product may change slightly as well. I’m not sure yet.

As for a status page, that is something that is planned for the new website.

The site will mostly consist of various arcade controllers for consoles. The 360 version will always be available, but other systems will have an inventory lock. So if I have 2 dreamcast pads available to hack, the site will show 2 available. Same goes for psx, ps2, etc.

Finally about the dual stick. I have actually thought about pulling it off the site twice now, and each time I do it seems like I get an order for one. I think I’ve only done 3 of them, but hey, at least they are moving.

Thanks for the continued support and feedback all. Keep it coming.

If the dual stick was just an actual Japanese arcade control panel attached to a piece of wood with additional select/back and home/guide buttons, I would actually consider buying it.

Ok, you said that the plans would be free, but it will include all this?:

These plans will walk you through the process of building your own Arcade-In-A-Box Arcade Console using your spare PC components. These plans are designed to help you put together you own system with parts that are easily available via the internet and your local hardware store.

What is included with your order:
15+ page, spiral bound, color guide for building your own system. Complete with instructions and images.
Templates for CDrom. USB, Wall Plate, Power Inlet, and Fan cutouts
Parts List - This Excel spreadsheet lists all of the parts used, and where you can find them. Includes websites, part numbers and descriptions.
Picture reference to help you identify parts that are talked about in the guide.

and that brings another question, in the future are you going to offer Joystick Cases(painted, and optional overlay)?? that would be really helpfull for guys like me, that dont have any knowledge about woodwork.

Yes, that’s correct on the plans. They will just be in PDF format for download. They are slightly outdated, and I really don’t feel like updating them so they will become free :).

And yes, I do plan on offering empty shells, or just buttons and wood.

I’m also going to have a few new services.

  1. IF you want a stick and have a PCB you want me to use, I will deduct some pricing and give instructions for where to send the PCB.

  2. Upgrading of older sticks to work with the 360/Windows. I’ve made both X-Arcades and SFII Anniversary sticks work with the 360, so I figure I’ll offer that service to anyone that might want it. This won’t include modding Hori or other type plastic joysticks. I don’t like working with plastic, and if I broke something by accident I couldn’t fix it. At least with the wood stuff, I can recreate if need be.

  3. Colors, colors and more colors. I’m looking into various products to add some color to the boxes. Hopefully soon you will be able to choose what color box you want as well. No, it won’t be paint. I applaud the custom stick guys that paint. I don’t have the patience for it, and it would make it extremely difficult for me to get items out on time. Plus, with as dusty as my work shop is with the CNC running, it makes painting a little more challenging ;).

That’s all I can think of at the moment.

Ed, how about this one for a new slogan?

Arcade-In-A-Box:

Fight Like A Man

Any thought on the “Gallery” idea?

For some reason, I have only seen 4 sticks from AIAB, and only in places such as reviews on youtube (Ryu and Ken artwork), a Street Fighter Alpha one here on this site, a Zangief one linked from an interview on the AIAB site, and another that looked like a VFHG.

Anyone here that would care to post theirs?

The problem, most of the sticks I did early on had that whole copyright artwork issue, so I don’t want to post those images.

The other problem is, I’m usually in a hurry when it comes to boxes up stick to get to fedex before their last pickup I completely forget to take pictures. If you go to the website and click the 360 controller, I added an animated gif that shows 4 different ones. I will put a up a gallery on the new site as well, sort of like how the gallery is now. Just remove a bunch of the junk from it.

I really like that one.

Ah yes. I forgot about the copyright issue. Thanks for the reply, Ed.

Oooh, just checked out the new animation. Very nice.

Thanks.

So my marketing guy and I are going to try something with the “Pads are for women” slogan. Just going to throw it out there a bit and see what the response is like. IT’s not something I would put on my site, but might be funny for a viral thing.

It also didn’t hit me at first, but the Pads is linked to both gamepads and feminine hygiene products ;). Which is what makes it so funny. I’m sure everyone else caught this, I’m just a little slow.

Heh yes it works on other levels which is why it’s genius (tooting my own horn). But the way I see it, if a girl gamer is hardcore enough to be going to your site, she is either used to that kind of thing or doesn’t care.

happy to post mine… (note: i did not create the background image)

Nice, mdsfx!

Ed, the new motto will definitely be good for a laugh.
