Hello, from Arcade-In-A-Box (10% Off Coupon SRK10)

Sick shit! I thought the prices were outrageous until I realized what the panels entailed. Cool stuff on the 2player 360 setup.

Thanks. I am actually considering removing the 2 player panel. The price is almost the same as 2 solos, and I prefer doing the solos much more.

Oh, and I’ve only sold one of them

I’m curious to see your (I’m assuming) DB25 project box setups for the upcoming AIAB Universal sticks.

Yeah, that’s one thing I really want to get done first once I finish up this backlog of sticks to make.

I’m not sure if I’m going to go DB25 or something else. Still looking at options.

One thought is to use a plastic enclosure around the PCB with 2 DB9 ports. Then have two ports on the stick that would match up. Making it a nice and simple plug in with better stability having the 2 ports. This will allow the pcb portion to actually be mounted to the stick and not run from a cable and dangling around :).

We’ll see, I’m throwing around a bunch of ideas right now.

Hey Ed have you thought about running Toodles upcb for the JIAB? It would be nice because to have support for consoles as well as supergun.

Ed, I see you have a ‘custom work’ option on your site. Does that mean I can commision a x360 stick with a different (custom) design?

Ohh!. I will have to look into that. Thanks.

Yes, though the wait time on custom right now is at least a month do the popularity of the 360 sticks. I’m not complaining, but I enjoy doing the custom stuff as well.

how much does a custom x360 stick normally go for?

The best implementation I’ve seen for project box joysticks are the GoPodular ones.

Those are velcro strips on the back of the joystick. The encoder cartridge has corresponding velcro strips that will attach to the back of the joystick.

The port that connects the encoder cartridge to the joystick is on the bottom of the stick, as seen here.

Here’s a minor web usability issue on your website. On your Xbox 360 Solo controller page, you should have each review logo in this image link to their corresponding review. That way, users can read what those sites have said about your joystick.

Good Idea Cow,
The reviews are actually to the right under news, and I’m not sure If I can link the OXM one since it was in a magazine. I mean, I have a copy in pdf, just not sure if it’s allowed. I will ask.

GoPodular makes nice sticks, which is one reason I am not in a big hurry to to do it. Why not purchase their sticks?

However, when/if I do it, I don’t want to copy them. I want to come up with my own way of doing it ;).

BTW, here is one more artwork picture. This will probably be the last one I post since they will start being available on my site next week. I didn’t see a reason to bore everyone by posting them all. Just wanted to show that I am making an effort to bring in some fresh new stuff.

This is by the same artist as the dragon.

Ed, it would be awesome if you could get something resembling the old school capcom layouts (you know the ones with jab, strong, fierce, short, forward, and roundhouse labeled).

Actually, Gopodular sticks seem to be well made but horribly designed:

  • the default button layout is placed too low on the control panel and and does not align with the joystick. You need space on the panel to rest your hand!
  • The Japanese layout does not seem to be the standard Astro City
  • The Sanwa JLF does not have the correct shaft length above the control panel
  • the project boxes have ribbon cable sticking out of the stick. I also do not like the project box on the back of the stick. I would rather have it sitting on the floor as I am afraid the stick may become unbalanced or the project box will fall off and break.

I would also like to see this.

You mean like the MAS sticks?

What about an updated one? Or orignal?

Keep it the same, but modernize it a bit.

yeah an updated or original one would be great. no xbox button labeling, only the jab, strong, fierce stuff. Also, there is no need to label the different directional functions like MAS does (no offensive crouch, defensive crouch shit for down back and down forward for example.)

Hey Ed I just noticed you are selling replacement mounting plates for Ultimarc sticks. Will these work on Mag-Sticks and make them fit a routed space for Happs? I hope so, because I’ve been looking for that for awhile :lovin:

EDIT - Nevermind I read the review and that is exactly what they are for. Do you have some lying around or do you have to make them? I need 2.

I also think an art template like the Astro City one in the picture of that GoPodular stick would be cool. Especially for the curved layout. I haven’t kept up with the thread but any word on PS2 sticks? Or maybe sticks with everything except PCB and wiring?

yeah an imitation astro city template (exact measurements between buttons, the buttons placement relative to the stick, etc.) would be awesome.

I have a stack of them. Just PM me your address, i’ll send you a few.

  1. I do wish there’s a little more space underneath the buttons and stick, but it’s not as bad as it seems.

  2. For my custom stick, I used an existing Sanwa template, so the layout is as close to an Astro City cab as it gets. It might seem off because I used Happ Competition buttons instead of Sanwa buttons.

  3. Don’t know about the Sanwa JFL shaft length, but it seems fine to me.

  4. The ribbon cable coming out of the project box is short, so it’s not a big issue. The project box attaches to the back of the stick via two large velcro strips, and there’s no risk of the project box falling off.
