Hello Fellow Makoto Players

A few nights ago, I was playing against Arlieth. For those of you that might remember the old FFA Ranbat vids, Arlieth was one of the top Makoto players there. Going into the Makoto vs. Alex match, he actually told me why he’d sometimes pick SA3. Alex has really slow start-up on just about everything he does. Using SA3, given that it has 60 frames of startup (as opposed to the 30 of every other super), for one second you’re able to see what is happening and react accordingly. On top of this, given how well Makoto starts offense (and how sucky Alex’s reversal game is), it’s not such a bad idea.

Personally, I think sa3 is one of the worst supers in the game. Up there with total destruction.

Considering how good seichu and abare are, I would never even think about sa3.

Maybe it is funzies tho.

What do you guys think of oro makoto matchup??

Oro is fucking annoying to fight against…

Personally I have more luck with a distance/keep away game then rushing down. AKA playing lame as fuck and severely limiting Oro’s ops to land close strong

-Blocked ex uppercut is free n. jump tsurugi into hayate x2 (you can even do tsurugi-> hayate-> ex hayate for more damage/style although you must make oro land on top of the first hayate instead of hitting him with it)

-All his fierce and rh pokes are all free dash in short karakusa on parry (although allot of them pretty much need to be frame perfect)

-down parry first hit and rock the stick back and forth can get you out of sa2 UB’s

I completely missed this thread. I’ve got a bug up my ass to use Makoto and I have two questions:

What is the timing for landing stHP after Karakusa?

How do you follow up EX Hayate with crLK or another Hayate in the corner?

I’m just sticking with SA1 Mak. I’d be nice to use a really fast character with a gdlk command grab for once…

As an aside: I’ve always felt like the Alex vs Makoto matchup is 5/5. It really depends on who you’re playing against. Thankfully Makoto can’t do anything on wakeup aside from jumping out or Super so Alex definitely has that going for him. And thanks to his higher stun bar he can’t get stunned as easily and the TOD doesn’t apply as much as in other matchups. I honestly feel like whoever gets their pressure going and maintains it will win it.

You’ll hear Makoto yell right before letting the opponent down, press Fierce towards the end of the sound.

Depends on the character, some can only be hit by t.Short, like the twins for instance. Other characters like Urien, you’ll want to follow up with Strong Hayate, oh and you can st.Fierce Hugo and I believe Alex as well. Follow ups in order of most useful/common IMO would be Jab Hayate, cr.Strong, st.Forward, t.Short. t.Short can net you a Kara-Karakusa, or a dash under against certain match ups like Dudley, or you can Hayate cancel the cr.Strong for set ups etc.

Alex has harder match-ups then makoto but to call it even… idk about that. As for dealing with Alex mix-ups she has all the standard anti-command grab/throw options and some karakusa os’s, back dash, etc. She may not a a shoryu type move or a quick poke, but she has the tools to deal with it.

is this exclusive to Mak?

nope

Thanks guys. As for the Alex/Mak matchup I’ve honestly felt like I was playing the player and not the character. Even against Nica.

Makoto vs Yang??

I go Abare. Yang cannot get willy nilly with cr mk torou. He always has to be a little scared of getting parried into death. you will be really thankful if you can land wfukiage. Practice it!

Seichusen works also but you cannot do it to cornered Yang because he can punish you if he doesnt die. Still a viable super in this match up.

Learning how to deal with divekicks helps this match up immensely. Luckily Chun-Li taught me the way.

Yang vs Mak

Yeah I like sa2 for the wfukiage (hell even tsurugi mp fuki sj fp is really easy on the twins)

You have to use short karakusa to grab yang out of chained cr jabs iirc

command grab loops and properly used dive kicks are probably the two most difficult things to deal with.

i feel like the biggest fuck you i can give to a yang is a red parried ex toro into w fukiage.

Yea zenpo loop is frustrating. Guard jump definitely helps but people can counter it if they are smart.

I’ve always wanted to see what regular fukiage can beat vs twins. For example, Parrying a hop kick into instant fukiage works. Also I’ve seen wake up fukiage beat zenpou. Also is youre feelin it, parry close stand mk into fukiage is good…Makes me wonder.

Not as much as one would hope… iirc you can hit a torou with fuki after parry although you have to be fairly close and it depends on which torou he did.

Mak vs Hugo??

This match-up is fucking annoying (Mak clearly has an advantage but fuck is it not fun to play)

sa1 or sa2 I am still somewhat undecided

sa2 for the free wfukiage without kara and extra meter for ex moves

sa1 for the free damage and once stocked it limits any potential clap mixup’s as you can super them on reaction (spacing specific)

st fwd seems pretty good at a distance as an anti air done early in there jump (you can also follow it up on parry with an anti-air sa1 which will fully hit although it is somewhat spacing specific with its small hit box)

Jump back rh seems like the primary go to anti-air with mixed in st forward, cr rh, dash under and ex fukiage

Post hayate mixup/options are interesting to say the least…

I agree. Hugo vs Makoto is not fun. Gotta love Hugo’s who churn butter during post Hayate Mixups.

I feel like you really gotta bully Hugo with this matchup. Don’t be scared but don’t be a dummy.

Sa1 to take away the clap sounds good, but I’m just worried about not being scary without any gauge. Hugo is just too buff.
