Hearthstone - That other, other, other Blizzard game

Some incredibly needed and useful cards in Nax and first few wings of BRM

Play through Naxx. Half of the cards you get from that expansion are staples.
As for BRM, the first wing has some great cards. The rest of the wings have some nice cards scattered around, but they’re quite unexiting overall.

I can’t see TGT-packs being a better investment than Naxx though, you’re guaranteed some of the best neutrals (Haunted Creeper, Sludge Belcher, Loatheb, Mad Scientist, ++) and several very good class cards.

What kind of playstyle/classes do you enjoy? The answer lies there.

Hey guys, are there any specific cards in TGT that you are planning to shoot for? I had like 1.5k gold saved up for TGT but when I saw the full spoiler I suddenly didn’t want to spend it there anymore. I want Darnassus Aspirant, Argent Horserider… and that’s it. Am I missing anything that looks like it could be a staple? Not sure if relevant but my current status is below:

[details=Spoiler]I have playing F2P on all servers for roughly 6 months. I managed to get all the Naxx wings as well as the first two wings of BRM. I managed to craft Dr. Boom on all my accounts, and have roughly 250-500 dust on all accounts going towards Sylvanas. I don’t intend to craft any epics or legendaries before Sylvanas, but I can spend 200-400 on rares to make a deck for a class that I can’t use for dailies (Priest and Druid). For some weird reason I have Tirion on all accounts (from packs). I have everything I want from GVG and have been using my gold to buy classic packs until now because I am missing a ton of staples from classic (Sylvanas, Antonidas, Ragnaros, a bunch of epics, etc).

The decks I play are roughly the same on all servers:

  1. Hunter -> Hybrid Hunter
  2. Paladin -> Aggro Pally (no Leeroy)
  3. Mage -> Mech Mage (Dr. Boom instead of Antonidas)
  4. Warrior -> Grim Patron Warrior
  5. Warlock -> Zoo (no Mal’Ganis)
  6. Shaman -> Mech Shaman (no Doomhammer)
  7. Rogue -> Mech Rogue (Mech Mage with Iron Sensei, Jeeves Arcane Nullifier and Rogue staples over Mage cards)
  8. Priest -> No real deck. I have almost nothing good for priest in any account in terms of epics. I might have one Auchenai in EU and Asia. I have a Cabal Shadow Priest in one account.
  9. Druid -> No real deck. I have 1-2 Keeper of the Grove in each account. 1-2 Force of Nature. 0-1 Ancient of Lore. 0-1 Ancient of War.[/details]

Not counting legendaries, we have:

  • Twilight Guardian look very good in Dragon-decks, and might make dragon decks actually viable.
  • Living Roots is very playable (I’ll probably put it in my druid deck over Chow now that I have Darnassus Aspirant to fuck up Mirror Entity).
  • Spellslinger looks interesting, though a bit random.
  • Tuskarr Totemic looks insane considering he can give any totem, which includes flametongue, mana tide, or even…
  • …Totem Golem, which looks very strong as well.
  • Lock and Load could be very strong in the right deck.

Twilight guardian and Lock and Load are the only epics here. The shaman cards will probably be the most impactful though.
edit: oh, and effigy looks very playable.

You guys are crazy with your gold amounts. I’ve been playing since December and haven’t yet gotten a single advendure wing, never got past 500 gold, my best arena result is like 2 wins and 3 consecutive losses, and looks like I’m about to be grinding for yet another card expansion via packs or whatever

Chillmaw looks good for a dragon warrior. Dragon warrior overall looks like it could be a lot better with this set, and I may try running it.

Once you have the staples, there’s little sense in buying packs outside of getting dust to craft fringe cards, so when an expansion is announced, you save up gold for that shit. I have my head buried in my master thesis and didn’t do quests for a month and a half so I’v only got like 700 gold. QQ

It doesn’t take that much to do okay in this game though. I just bought both adventures, built some solid decks from reasonably cheap cards, and learned how to play arena on a basic level*. That’s really all you need. I think you do need Naxxramas-stuff to make a genuinely strong deck, but if you have it, getting to a decent rank (5 or higher) is very manageable if you understand how the deck is supposed to be played.

  • a skill I promptly lost when GvG hit, since I went from 5-6 wins on average to 2-3. I don’t think I understand the format anymore <.<

I enjoy control more than anything else. I like Paladin and Warrior, but Warrior needs much more investment. Druid and Warlock are okay too.

Any source you guys would recommended for a noob? Just started last night and never really played any card games seriously. Finished the tutorial quest

arena is only worth it in terms of gold if you are either

  1. semi casual player going to buy packs anyways, but can hit about 5 wins on average. This lets you basically get a bonus for playing, and also doesn’t really cost you anything as you’re still paying roughly 100g for your pack.

  2. good enough to consistently get 7+ wins.

If you aren’t doing either of those things it’s a straight up gold sink.

99% chance that you’re playing for value when you should be going for tempo. Almost everyone who used to do well but doesn’t anymore has this problem.

In that case, get Naxxramas first. Too many great cards for the midrange/control decks to pass up. Death’s Bite and Sludge Belcher are staples for a reason.

Control warrior, handlock and any kind of druid deck are probably the most expensive decks in the game, and require investments in cards that mostly only these decks run. In comparison, midrange/control paladin is probably not a bad choice. It’s still an expensive deck with lots of exclusive cards (you pretty much need Tirion, LoH, Quartermaster and some neutral legendaries for it to be any good), but it’s still more accessible than the others you mention.

Oil rogue also plays the control game well and doesn’t require that much investment other than some rares and two Preparations, so if you’re fine with winning on the combo finish, it’s something worth considering.

liquidhearth.com is decent. I’d also recommend watching videos by Trump and StrifeCro, they’re pretty informative and reasonably entertaining.

Make that 100%.
I haven’t played arena in ages now though.

Yeah when GVG hit i went to about 5 win average from over 7, and ended up losing about all of my gold buffer. The adjustment was pretty simple to fix that.

Stop picking Shaman unless I’m forced to, try to force as many hero power turns out of my opponent as possible, draft more 1 drops, coin 4 drops on turn 3 instead of coining on turn 1 much more often.

They really need spectate option for drafts. My average has slipped a little, I’m still drafting for value… This information is very helpful.

Seriously addicted. Leveled my Mage up to 10, opened some packs and since I watched trumps video on controlling the table I haven’t lost. What’s the best ways to get gold? Are the quest for 25 bucks worth it?

Fuck this game… OF COURSE he top decked kill command. OF COURSE.

First of all, there are some hidden quests/achievements with gold:

Those should be your first ones to do, you can do them against the AI and learn a bit more.
Getting gold in general is pretty hard in the beginning, certainly wouldn’t put my money into arena.
Quest for 25 bucks? If you talk about Blackrock Mountain and Naxxramas, they’re adventures.
Naxxramas is really good. You clear it and gain really powerful cards, like Naeras mentioned a bit earlier in this thread.
A wing costs 700g, which is pretty expensive. I did Naxxramas with gold and took me quite a while,
bought Naxxramas because… well, I enjoy the game (sometimes… rarely) and it just takes a lot of time to get 3000+ gold,
rather just buy the expension. Don’t regret it at all.

There are 2 adventures with guaranteed cards, Naxxramas and Blackrock Mountain so far.
There is one expansion with cards, Goblin vs. Gnomes, and a new one will be released today, The Grand Tournament.
For GvG and TGT you have to buy packs or craft the cards.

Classic. ;_;

I wanna try Taunt Warrior, Beast Druid, work on my Demonlock some more, a new variant of Echo Mage with an Inspire twist to it, and of course the big one - new Pirate Rogue.

Anybody else do Skype calls and like, constantly screen share this game when you’re with friends? One of my friends has every card and we just fuck around with dumb deck ideas.

It’s out!
