Its been less than a week, this isn’t LoL but people are calling OP in masses.
At least wait a bit and see what people can figure out. He’s going to get at least one round of cards to cost one less, that’s a given. But once people understand him as a threat I doubt they will waste removal so liberally on other targets and let him slide.
The only change I could see making sense, if they do one, is to start his effect on the following turn instead of the one he is played but that would take two turns and make him somewhat useless.
He does make impossible combos possible, which is quite frightening in a game where you aren’t supposed to go above 10 mana. I’ve been loving him in handlock so far, since I get to combo for ultra lethal so much more often.
Trying to figure out what to drop in control warrior to put him in. Cause either he will eat mad removal so my other cards are all safe, or he’ll give me a little bonus and leeway to do shenanigans.
I like the help Tempo, Mid Range, and Control picked up in this set. Should even out the playing field in the long run.
Turns out that 50% of ranked runs Kezan at the moment so I had to included her into the deck to steal back my secrets. There’s also some other aspects that might need a few tweeks but I feel like this can work.
I also went up against the last boss of heathstone and lived! The tyrannical rule of the armor overclass has finally come to an end!
Emperor is a lot of fun, OP? I think it is frankly ridiculous to even bring it up at this point. He hasn’t even been available a week, let’s see what is developed both in using him and countering him. Hearthstone has a stable of pros that thoroughly test each card before release.
He does enable some new strategies which is always a great thing for any game. He seems useless for fast decks, but great for slow decks and combo decks. I had druid and priest dailies the last two days, and Emperor seemed to work very nicely in them.
The best was having a completely full hand, 10 cards, with priest, and plopping down emperor. Then having the cost reduced of all those cards, and then the opponent not being able to remove him so he lasts two more turns making a bunch of cards zero cost, and others very cheap. However for me to get that full hand I luckily drew two Northshires in my opening hand, I had earthen farseers which healed and put a minion on board. I got naaru early too. So a bunch of lucky things enabling to both survive in good condition til turn six, and fill my hand completely. The emperor will allow some incredible things, and insane value, and I’m sure people complaining are going to remember that massive combo, or someone being able to fill the board with massively reduced minions but not think of the many times it didn’t effect the game very much.
Anyways everyone should wait and see. People hate losing, especially in dramatic fashion, but it is way to early to blame the Emperor for anything. Is he better than Sylvanas? Depends on the board state. I’d much much rather have sylvanas if the opponent controls the board.
Yeah I just got through being milled by a rogue. Cold lights plus pandas, vanish and gang up. One gang up used for cold lights, other used for heal bots.
With Sylvanas you have leeway because you can decide when and how to kill her. You have time to manipulate the board accordingly. With Emperor you get fucked from the moment he gets on the board, and you have to get rid of him ASAP.
Before you even have a chance to kill him, the opponent already gains 1 free mana for each card, which is an advantage that’s going to last for the next several turns. And if you can’t kill him in that 1st turn, then it gets a lot worse.
He is not like Boom who fits into almost anything, but in specific decks that just happen to fit his effect, he’s a complete game changer.
so i got bodied so hard by a grim patron warrior a few times in ranked play that i had to build a deck to mess with it and it’s fucking stupid strong.
i’ll upload the exact deck later but it’s basically armor smith, acolyte of pain, whirlwind, cruel taskmaster, wild pyromancer and warsong commander. oh and whatever the weapon that has deathrattle deal 1 damage to all minions.
turn 7:
grim patron
cruel taskmaster to pop a second patron
then use the rest of your weapon durability to finish the turn with 4 patrons
