Hearthstone - That other, other, other Blizzard game

No, you only got to see the classes. Actual deck contents were unknown. This is true for all major tournaments currently. However most classes only have 1 viable option, so you can guess a deck just by knowing the class. This will get shaken up with GvG which is exciting.

I keep going back and forth on how I feel with Bolvar.

First I think it’s bad.

Then I think it has potential.

Then I think the potential isn’t worth it.

Then I remember Muster for Battle.

Idk…I think the tipping point is it not only being able to be silenced but the fact that it’s a Legendary. You need to draw it really early and even with a mulligan there’s no guarantee. There is the dream though of Turn 2 minion, Turn 3 SoJ, Turn 4 Muster, Turn 5 Bolvar. Idk how amazing that would be though.

In the end, though, Minions that are 5 Mana and above should be doing something the turn they hit the board, or affect it in some way.

Bolvar does not. And you have to draw him early which takes up a hand slot on a Mulligan which could go to more relevant things, and he’s able to be silenced, and he’s a Legendary making it even less likely to draw him early…

Bad to Meh card until all the cards are released for me. The rest of paladin’s cards have to be absolutely insane to make bolvar good.

Bolvar should be unsilencable, and grow regardless of weather he is in the deck or in hand. There are all these cool legendaries like ysera where I dream of the possibilities should I ever get one, wonder if anyone is fantasizing about Bolvar possibilities.

Bolvar is fine. He isn’t too good or too bad. People talking about him getting silenced and stolen as if thats at all important to whether you should play him or not. If you think about it he is an on curve 4/7 alot of the time for Paladin or basically a Fuegen, not amazing not bad and has significant upside. As long as Silence isn’t super prevalent, it will still get plenty of play, just sucks against Priest.

That would be too crazy the other way. Everyone would be forced to hold BGH in hand against Paladin until Bolvar is dropped (or be Priest/Rogue). Either one way or the other. I’d rather have him be unsilenceable and that’s it. Making him unable to be silenced and growing in the deck would be obscene, especially in Paladin. ā€œOh look, I top deck a 12/7 that you can’t silence down, hope you kept that BGHā€.

The problem is that he’s slow and unwieldy. He doesn’t make an impact on the board when dropped and every constructed deck is running at least one Ironbeak Owl (unless you’re Priest) because having Silence is already important. If you draw him early he takes up a hand slot that could be used for other things. If you draw him late, he’s bad.

Just too much going against him right now. Again, make his thing a Transform or something that avoids a Silence and then he might be worth play.

Bolvar doesn’t seem good at all unless a way to maximize his value is developed a la Van Cleef. Otherwise, you’re not particularly better off than you would be playing Feugen.

If Bolvar’s +1 bonus extended to minions on the board after he was played, like Ghoul, he’d be fine.

People don’t run that much silence, and using one silence on a 4/7 5 drop doesn’t really make sense all the time, depending on what you expect to face. Sure if he comes out as a 6/7 for 5 maybe I’ll silence it or whatever its just not going to be always a Silence target unless you are running alot of Silence, which maybe people will, mass dispel is back baby! He just is completely average as it goes which kinda sucks for a class legendary I guess. But hey he could be King Krush.

The main problem is that you want to get him as a 4/7 5 drop or better, he’ll HAVE to be in your opening hand.

If he comes any later his value gets reduced the longer he sits in your deck. You could potentially get value or ā€œredeemā€ value with tokens but i feel it’s far too inconsistent if he’s silence able.

Another problem is that if you dont have him in your hand, you’ll have to draw him as a dead card that slowly redeems value as the game goes on.

Thats true. He is much worse if not in opening hand against super aggressive meta. Though Paladin is one of the classes that can drag shit out if they choose to with deck construction, whether that draggin will win or not is the problem, most of the time right now it would seem to be no, against other control decks.

That is one of Paladin’s big issues. Paladin is designed from the ground up to be a control focused class, but it looses to other control decks! It’s very frustrating.

I had my best run with Paladin pre-Naxx with the Divine Favour rush deck. Partly because if you focus on Control Paladin, laddering takes forever.

Sitting on 4000 gold, but I’ll probably just keep grinding arenas even after the new cards are out.

  1. Well there is little point to spend gold on new card packs, since arena rewards will be goblins & gnomes only. However that means that the only way to get older cards is to craft or use gold to buy packs.

  2. Yeah my suggestion was over the top, hey I feel for paladin. I think unsilencable would be enough. Think of it as is…only useful if you get it in the beginning, and what best case it grows to 6/7 or something by turn 5? Ur minions actually have to die, meaning u have put out minions (as do you)…and they have to be killed. In a typical game by turn 5 I don’t even know if it grows to 4/7. What if u don’t draw muster of battle? I can’t see any real reason this would be chosen over other 5 drops. Fuegen at least has a possibly beneficial deathrattle, and if u silence it still keeps its respectable stats. U silence this card…it goes to a useless 1/7. Still we don’t know the full expansion yet, maybe there are other cards that will help this one.

I don’t think rarity should necessarily mean a card is better, however I don’t think legendaries should be useless. Has to be so disappointing for those that open one up in a pack. What are those odds again…1/20 packs? so 1 out of a 100 cards…1%.

What’s worse is when I see an epic, and get high hopes for brawl or prep or doomhammer, and instead get my 5th twisting nether

Also I don’t really think of bolvar as a regular 5 drop, more as a game closer. If all works out you can use a strong 5 drop, but otherwise I’ll be running him in control and using him as a finisher. If I actually get him. No way I’m crafting him lol

Id like to host a tournament shortly after GvG goes live, using the new spectator system. Should be fun. Hopefully we can get 8+ people to sign up.

Hoping they patch in the cards during this huge downtime

Time constraints are an issue for me, but I’m interested.
