HD Remix for PC. Is it really that imporbable?

The fundamental code of ST has been emulated on the PC now for years so I don’t see it being difficult from a technical aspect to get this on PC. Capcom is also eventually releasing SF4 on PC. Why can’t they just put HD Remix up on Steam and Direct2Drive. Sure the game will be pirated but that’s going to happen eventually anyways. Why not appease the PC gamers and make at least a little bit of money. Most 2D fighting games are played via PC emulators anyways. Your thoughts.

It would be nice. I already bought it on XBL, but I might actually consider buying it again for PC if they did ever release it. I’m guessing the reason they haven’t/won’t release it on PC is because Capcom (or Backbone) doesn’t think it would sell enough to make a significant return on their investment.

I agree with you on Capcom’s profit assumptions. I just don’t know if that would be the case in reality though. I’ve read developers say that porting a 360 game to PC only requires a few people. I think it was Valve who even said it was almost as easy as pushing a button. So the amount of sales they’d have to make to get their investment back is probably quite small especially if it’s a downloadable game which cuts almost all of the packaging and distribution costs. Also if they’re porting SF4 over, which is much harder and requires more capital to do so then I don’t get why they wouldn’t port over HD Remix which has already proven itself as a huge success as a downloadable game. I wonder if enough people showed interest on this and other boards and Capcom Unity, Capcom would listen?

I would buy it again. It would be nice to be able to play it on my cab without having to alter my current setup.

The willingness shown here to buy it again for the PC brings up another interesting point. I think that if Capcom releases it for the PC, it would not only attract those who do not own a next gen console but also players that already own it for their PS3/360. I own HD Remix on my PS3 but would love to have it kicking around on my laptop and at $15 heck even $20 I’d buy it in a heart beat.

I would love if it gets ported to PC, that would be the only way I could play this game at the moment.

It’d be great if this game was released for the PC. If they converted it to use GGPO net-code and hook it into the GGPO interface that would be doubly cool. But realistically, it probably won’t happen. They were supposed to port Puzzle Fighter HD to the PC, and I haven’t heard anything about that in ages.

Also, they should probably focus on patching the existing releases before doing anything else.

Depends on if Capcom thinks they can make money of the product with SF4 coming to PC. I doubt that HD will come out before than and doubt Capcom would release it after unless 4 gets some nice sales numbers on the PC.

I really wish they’d just throw it up on Steam at sometime but Capcom doesn’t seem to support that platform too much

Yeah I agree with you. I think it will be swept under the rug by Capcom after SF4 comes out but it’s a shame really. HD Remix will be played for years to come online and in tourneys. I think it’s a game that can sell well at that $10-$20 price point for years to come on the PC like Counter Strike and Team Fortress do.

Why ask us? There are some threads over on capcom-unity already asking, so post up there to help them realise there is a market for this.

I would buy it again on PC for sure.

I’d rather see a patch than a port.

What makes you guys think that they would alter the netcode at all if a PC port should ever arise? It seems like it took multiple acts of God to get this game out at all in its current form so I seriously doubt the PC will ever see this, especially so since SF4 is almost here.

I’ve already started a thread at Capcom Unity but no one seems to be biting yet. It doesn’t even have that many views so maybe it’s a dead topic over there. As for the net code in the PC version, it would be interesting to see the net code handled via the GGPO website/server as opposed to GGPO handling HD Remix separately like they are for the console versions. That way the net play can improve as the GGPO website/server code improves. It also take a lot of the burden off of Capcom and puts it upon people that actually want to see this game be played online for years to come.

I’m not against people wishing to play on their PC instead getting their wish, but I don’t want to see 10 minutes of work put into it until they fully patch the console versions.

First things first.

Why would we want a port of a poorly produced game?

Patch this thing up. Fix the bugs and glitches online. Fix T.Hawk’s throw glitches with the command. Fix the simultaneous direction problem that allows people to walk forward and charge and to block cross ups in two directions.

Fix the game that was made in the first place. Then maybe port it to a new platform. The PS3 and 360 versions are loaded with problems. What sense is another glitchy version?

Let’s get things straight here. I’ve never stated not patching the console versions first. If by some miracle this game does get ported to PC I don’t even expect it to hit til the second half of this year. This thread is to get the community talking about a possible PC version in hopes of getting attention of Capcom. I am in no way calling for an immediate PC port. It’s unrealistic and naive to do so. We all already know that this game needs to be patched immediately, but that is not what this thread is about, it’s about an eventual PC (hopefully fully functional) version. Please leave any comments about patching to the appropriate thread.
