HBO's True Detective

lol yeah right? You telling me the chief of police isn’t a familiar face to you?

Didn’t care about Velcoro, but was rooting hardcore for Frank. Not too often you see a legit romantic relationship on TV anymore. Jordan rode 100% for Frank, so I was rooting for him to get away. Was reading on other sites that Frank should’ve given up the suit, but they forget he had $3.5 million in the pocket - so he had no choice but to fight for it.

As for the mystery, there were too many moving pieces combined with puzzling dialogue choices and scene execution to follow it. After a while, it didn’t even matter. The revelation that Caspere was (unknowlingly) knocking off his illegitimate daughter was crazy though. It was the only revelation the entire season that hit hard.

I couldn’t bring myself to care enough for this ending to be in any way satisfying or dissatisfying. As said above the whole mystery aspect and overall storytelling was a complete clusterfuck this season. Too many names you couldn’t really put faces to being tossed around, It didnt unfold in any sort of satisfying way, and it was obvious from the beginning who was involved. In the first season we had a deranged cult killing completely innocent women and children for years and more lives were at stake. This season… Who gives a shit about Caspere or who killed him? He was a jerk off! So was everyone involved and affected! The steaks were considerably lower. In the end it just devolved into “lets kill all the motherfuckers and escape”.

Though it did have its moments:

When Velcoro popped the first 2 dudes in the woods I was hype.

Franks after death outer body experience was really well done from a visual standpoint even if it was a bit cheesey.

I also thought it was lame to have exactly the same scenario that happened with Woodrough being ambushed by a squad of armed men, taking a couple of them out, and being killed repeat itself the next episode with Velcoro being pursued by a squad of armed men, taking a couple of them out, and being killed. Just seemed kinda Lazy.

Without unform, its just a target dummy

A somber finale. Other than the rather surprising revelation that Velcoro’s defunct and incredibly recessed Irish ginger genes sired that fat kid.

Him getting capped meant little because because his end was more of self-fulling prophecy than something untimely.

Apart from the seige on the Russians and Vince Vaughn’s ride or die moment with his cougar redhead wife it was just a solid “OK”.

Same with this season.

When did Frank put the money into his suit? I must have missed that detail. You mean the diamonds? If true, makes complete sense but I just would’ve emptied the pockets.

How you gonna empty your pocket full of diamonds in front of a cartel gang are you a magician?

Saying that, dude owned a casino he should have learnt some sleight of hand tricks

He was in the middle of the goddamned desert. He was a dead man.

He wouldn’t have gotten stabbed if he hadn’t punched that dude.

Yeh he should have just slapped his hand away and legged it

I’m saying he was dead with our without the stab wound.

^ probably yea. they weren’t just letting him go…I am sure. because chances are gangster like frank will come back and kill all the mexicans.

i thought the suit was for the ride back… and frank just got tight at the wrong moment and fucked it up…whatever

real problem of the show to me is all of the side shit that was teased with Bezzerides dad the doctor all the side comments about how the mayors family had “strage ways” etc it was all wasted and didnt mean shit. it literally seemed like an abandoned plot route that was still partially left in. how many times do we even see the big bad tony on screen? 2 times? smh.

One critic said it best: this season was told through the footnotes instead of what we saw onscreen.

You guys REALLY think those mexicans were letting Frank go ANYWHERE? If anything they would’ve taken the suit, killed him in the car and put him in the ground right then. Did you guys not see that huge pile of dirt by Frank? They planned on burying him either way. Him giving up the money was probably there nice way of saying 'well we won’t kill you, but you’re dead out here either way."

Velcoro dying was fucking stupid. Woodrough killed guys & got caught off guard leaving that building, Velcoro with a (more than likely) fully loaded shotgun just running out there getting spray & prayed after just killing two guys made no sense. Probably wouldnt re-watch this season again.

Jordan was a fine red head though. Lawd.

:frowning:

I’m not sure how I feel about that ending… as much as I don’t like Vince Vaughn I think he was my favorite one in this season except for some questionable lines and the cheesy fist fight.

Velcoro had a shotgun and a pistol…against about 6 dudes with body armor and automatic guns, there was no way he was getting out of there alive hiding behind trees and shit.

It was 5 and he had bodied two already.

Those shots to the head he gave the 2 guys was pretty nice
