darkdragon88, I’m in a similar situation myself, only in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The data shows they’ve shipped, but nothing outside of leaving Taiwan. I’m sure it will turn up by the end of this week, but that could be my wishful thinking. Not too worried about it ATM, good things take time.
Very nice packaging inside and out, with smart little protective film circles over the top of the buttons to ensure finish quality.
I haven’t installed them yet but had a look over and see what makes them tick and here’s my first thoughts.
I’m amazed that the button cap is only held in by the micro switch. This is really cool as it means less drag on the sides and also direct contact with the micro-switch.
This method relies on the fact that the 3rd party switches used in them are meant to be directly attached to, they can handle a beating(my keyboard is proof!)
The whole button has been made extremely well with very high quality plastics.
The polishing has come up superb! bar one tiny(maybe less tiny) problem.
Something must’ve happened somewhere along production and the caps have been cut from there molds but the cut has not been polished.
I’m guessing they sent away the caps still connected together to get polished, and they returned polished but still connected. From there they’d have to manually cut each cap out and shave them down best they could.
These can be seen on 1 side of the buttons and more clearly if the button is removed. It has affected all of my buttons (16) and is only ever on 1 side, inline with the holding tabs.
This part of the button is a crucial contact point and i cannot stress enough the importance of it being polished and uniform
I hope it hasn’t occurred with the whole first batch.
This has not deterred me in any way from buying GamerFinger products.
The small company has worked hard to bring us these quality buttons.
Just a shame about the hiccup…
Yeah, that is where the defect on one of my buttons was, as there was a small protrusion from that part causing it to get stuck. A few brushes of sandpaper fixed it, but it is an odd mark on an otherwise amazing product.
For the HBFS-30-G2 Crystals, are the clear caps coming in separate packages from rest of the buttons? I got the buttons, opened the package, and thought that I was going crazy for a bit when I couldn’t find the caps. Like those caps can’t be that clear! ^_^’
I had the same issue if you look a couple posts back. It’s a pretty simple fix, the problem is that the contacts aren’t touching. Just take it apart, then push the microswitch down as hard as you can, and then put the cap back on. It should work just fine after that.
Thanks to @Milkshark for the quick response. I’m really liking the HBFSs far more than I expected to. They will probably become by default buttons. @JohnGrimm I’ll give that a try tonight. Thank you.
Just finished playing with mine for a few hours; mine came with zero defects or problems out of the box. I got the red switches and they’re really quiet and feel great. I could wax poetic about how great it is to have quiet buttons, but I’ll just give a big shout out to Milkshark for bringing these to the community. I look forward to doing business with you guys again.
So wheres the best place to buy the Cherry switches? I got blue, but they are alittle too tactile for fighting, and i had a black switch lying around that i tried and I like it…
