I look forward to some hands on guilty gear training with you guys.
I think we had a mirror match with jam once. I hardly play with those two. Even at home. Johnny was a char that I wanted to play so badly, but I couldn’t commit because of the amount of work I had to put in to learning him. I was thinking about trying venom too. Since I enjoy playing Sheryl in Rumble Fish.
lol rumble fish!!!
Learning to play GG is tough because the gameplay system alone scares people off from wanting to play it competitively. Even the basics of the game are quite technical to some extent. The hardest thing about learning GG is probably the amount of variables both visual and non visual that you have to keep track of at any given time.
If you have questions though, post up with them and I’ll field them as best I can as well as offer advice.
Hands on training is good too but most of the time it is working on execution in practice mode then field testing against comp in match play.
yeah like Johnny’s finer mist cancel thing. It’s not that hard to do it by itself but doing it in combos is another story. And you can’t do a lot of Johnny’s combos without it.
Yup. So many little nuances that are character specific and necessary to their gameplay. Mist Stance Cancel is serious business in regard to Johnny’s playstyle, lol.
whoda thought the game was SOOO deep. man 3s is EASY compared to this…its like on MVC2 level.
bears: I don’t remember playing a JA mirror match with you, lol. I know that I used her a couple of times in casuals though. That’s cool picking up Johnny, despite the difficulty of his playstyle. Venom on the other hand is straight up hard to play as period, considering he has charge moves and most of his strat depends on oki with ball formation setups which has great pressure potential should you execute it to its fullest.
neko x: MvC2 is MvC2 and GG is GG, lol. Once you get past the initial learning curve playing GG is fun, provided you have comp.
We didn’t? Oh well, so far I tried combos on Potty, Ky, Testament, and Dizzy. Gotta mess with the light characters now. Testament got a nice hitbox when you sweep him off his feet. Dizzy got a big hitbox too. Good for air combos. Potty is… Heeeeeaaaaavy… Still gotta work on him. The frc’s aren’t easy either. There are times when I get them though.
Practicing combos is good. Now I gotta see if I can make him move around the stage gracefully.
Maybe we did but it probably was only for like a few matches out of boredom then we went back to using our main chars, lol.
I wonder how much coins you be burning for MF combos especially if you re-coin for Lvl 2 MFs, not to mension possible pressure situations with coins. That and tension usage for KJ FRCs for combo extensions if applicable.
normal weights-shouldn’t be too bad / SO, AX, VE,…
lights-floaty and prone to techs / all girls except DI but includes BR
heavy-drop like rocks / PO, JO, AB,
weird in between ones / KY, ED, TE, DI
I’m drawing from experience when I practiced ADC combos with MI
IIRC this was how chars ‘weighed’ in general though.
FRCs aren’t too bad, KJ is the main one you should use because of its combo potential. Easy to hit and miss sometimes. The transport FRCs are good for long range dash jumps. Maybe even tension usage for FB Jackhound if applicable.
Movement is a problem for JO considering he has an awkward f.dash. Mist Stance has a dash and by dashing and cancelling MS you can ‘move’.
Yeah, good luck with all that. lol.
yeah i think it was one of those matches. we were probably just spamming FB Puffballs.
I can probably frc the kj like 5 out of 10 times. maybe less. and when it does happen i get all excited and mess up the rest of the combo lol.
Haha, you guys need Evil to show how it’s done with Johnny. . . . . . . . .
True. We more than likely spammed FB puffballs, but who landed them into wallstick combos? lol.
The KJ FRC isn’t that bad cause its hit or miss but easier to hit versus other FRCs. But since you need tension and atleast a Lvl 2 MF to make the combo worthwhile for damage you’d best be hitting it or do combos with at least 50 percent tension to cover the FRC as an RC instead.
With you though it is as you said, if you hit the FRC, sometimes you do get the follow up combo and sometimes you don’t. You’ve seen me pull IceSpike FRC into follow up combos, so it is possible with either Rensen FRCs/ KJ FRCs though the latter has leeway with RC applications. Just keep working at it.
Where you been man? You guys even still play or what? lol.
I haven’t played GGXX for a long ass time since like the last time we was all at Zones. Not like I forgot how to play though. I’m in the process of having a custom GGXX stick being built by Hahano. He should be done with it when he gets back from Evo, so when I finally get it, Ill probably play the shit out of it. So I ain’t done with GGXX just yet!
SF Champion Edition will be King of the hill style. 20 wins. or regular battle depending on turnout. And M.BISON is banned. ANYONE can win with chip damage and simple 3 hit combos. not right im sick of that guy. lol
Don’t forget about using super moves to win as well, lol.
ok so…i went to ikebukuro and got my ass kicked by everyone in guilty gear, haha. i got a little bit better though.
Who’d you use vs. who they used?
LOL at Bison’s corner trap. I was trying to do it on you when we were playing too.
i used potemkin (and jam sometimes) against ky, ino, bridget, sol, venom, and may. i only won against the venom and may players once each after i had been there for about 45 minutes, and i’m pretty sure i got perfected at least once by everybody. everyone there is terribly good…they don’t make any mistakes, and small, seemingly unimportant hits lead to huge combos and setups. you really have to rely on all of the game’s systems, like instant blocking, faultless defense, dead angle, burst, etc…and when it’s appropriate to use all of those. in hawaii i could get away with just regular blocking all the time, and just kind of bullshitting around without thinking what i’m doing. over here it gets to be like a damn chess game sometimes, and when i first started playing my reactions were so slow that pretty much any fireball, crossup, or low-high game would hit me.
i think the ky player might have been someone important? i couldn’t even win a round against him, and the closest i got to beating him was getting him down to half life. the color scheme he always used was black outfit ky with mint green hair. i only stayed for maybe an hour and a half, but i think i got a lot better. now i’m in kobe, and no one plays guilty gear in the local arcade nearby, only tekken 6 and the latest virtua fighter.
