Ok, so lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time in the training room practicing combos, trying to pull of moves that i think would go well together, trying out some BnBs for Ryu. My main problem now is, I get too panicky when I’m in an actual match. CPUs on medium are absolutely destroying me and actual players are… well doing worse to me… Any suggestions on what I should do?
do you plink? Only thing i can really recommend is endlessing with someone, match experience till it just becomes reactionary. Dont play cpus they just throw out random moves / do psychic anti-airs, it gives you good reactions at punishing random specials but footsies-wise and reads wise i think its bad for your play (all my opinion of course).
So, just keep playing online?
Keep playing with human opponents. Preferably offline, but online will do if it’s all you have. Try to avoid laggy connections. Find some friends who will play longer sets with you, and ask for feedback. Whenever you lose, try to identify at least one specific mistake and figure out what you should have done instead.
If you watch the high level players, the main reason they’re so good is not that their execution and spacing is infallible, it’s that they have confidence in what they do, especially in spacing. You can’t play high-level offense or spacing games if you’re constantly afraid of getting hit. Of course, good blocking is extremely important as well.
Basically, to gain confidence in your execution, spacing and reads all you can do is play real matches.
Yeah, I just got beaten really bad. Now I’m back to square one. The only combo I’m only able to do (adequately… not too good but not bad…) is the Jumping HK followed with C.MK and cancelling to Fireball/Dragon punch.
Another thing I’ve been trying is using grab and following it with a focus attack and as the character goes to the kneeling motion use DP.
Other than those two, what I basically do is crouching HK to knock them down, jump back and then start using Fireballs like there’s no tomorrow with the ocassional DP when the opponents try to jump in. I’m trying to move away from this with no luck.
Just calm down and Focus on your combo.
I was like that too, scared of performing Ryu’s Shoryuken FADC Ultra 1.
But from time to time, experience gave me courage to do it.
Alright, well as of now I don’t think I’ll be playing online. I have to get all these combos into muscle memory and then I’ll work on executing them on real players.
You still need to play online. Landing combos in the training room is totally different from landing them online. You need practice in both environments. Do not phase online play out completely, just warm up in training mode before you head online. Play a few matches. If you suffer some really frustrating losses where you dropped combos, go back to training mode, iron them out again, then jump back online. You need to be stubborn and persist playing online or else you will never get better, as it’s not just about doing the combos, but being able to recognize proper situations to break them out and then apply them in that split second of time.
You are going too hard on yourself, remember that you need to crawl before you walk, you need to walk before you run, you need to run before you drive, and then fly.
first of all understand moves first, dont bother about cancelling into hadoken or shoryuken. understand how links work, your first combos should be chain combos, learn how to crouch and jab three times when you do that send me a PM so I can train you.
I’m having the same problem. I can do some bnb combo’s in training mode. or DP fadc ultra goes pretty well to. But whenever I play online I just get my ass kicked. And all combo’s fail.
My friends don’t really like fighting games. So I’m pretty limited to online play. Which sux for beginning players.
Online has lag, it’s almost completely like a different game. Don’t beat yourself up too much if you fail to do your combos properly online.
Yeah I’ve been failing a lot lately… It’s kind of disappointing actually. Lag is only part of it, the other is panicking because my inputs are not properly recognized or its a little late.
You know, Albert Einstein said… "It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer. "
What combos are you talking about…?
^I’m assuming the linking combos.
I’m having hard time landing 4+ hits combo too. The only combo I can do is jump kick, c.mk, fireball.
Jap and c.lk into other combos I can’t do. My question is how many time are you guys hitting the buttons for the hit to registered? For me it seem like i have to tap twice for the hit to registered and this is where I’m having problem landing 4+ hit combos. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Nah dude just press it once but you gotta figure out the timing, go to training mode practice it like 20times then go to a match and do them. wait for someone to do something unsafe and practice there
I use to be the same way but what really helped me a lot was putting the practice dummy on random and literally practicing my combo’s for hours and hours until it became muscle memory for me. Even after you get good enough to do that certain combo in your sleep, still practiced it for hours so u don’t drop it in a match. Practice those combos till the screws on your stick pad or controller come off!.
Thanks for the replies, guess i have to keep practicing and slow down my smashing. lol
If you wish, I can be your sensei and we can have training sessions.
one tip:
write down the combo you want to do
divide it into two
practice the first part until you can hit it 5-10 times in a row
practice the second part
then practice them together.
