So I recent got a Qanba Obsidian Joystick and I was also recommend to get an alternative gate in case I didn’t like the default one. People were right on, I didn’t like the original gate it came with. I had a lot of issues doing DPs, so I switched to the octogon gate. The octogon gate was definitely better, but not quite what I’m familiar with, so I decided to once a gain swap it for a circle gate. The feel is now exactly as I remember it, but something else wasn’t quite right. For some reason, everytime I try doing half circle moves, it fails 92%. This became apparent when I try playing games like King of Fighter and can’t do Iori’s fireballs, or Clark’s Flash Elbow (qcf+P). But I can still do half circle moves just fine, that’s what’s odd about this. I didn’t have this issue when I used the octogon gate. I can switch back, but I still prefer the feel of the circle gate over the octogon. What’s happening? Did anyone else also experienced this?
circle gates are notorious for grinding your actuator into dust (literally).
Just keep that into mind
I only recomend square gates but that is me.
Sounds like an execution problem rather than a hardware problem.
Find a game with a training mode with input display, and see what you’re doing.
Keep in mind that with a circular gate, you have no real reference points, so you might not actually be hitting a cardinal direction (even though you think you are).
Yes. Sorry I forgot to also mention that I already tried going to the game’s diagnostics and tested the buttons. I’m definitely hitting those corners (236) to do that half circle motion. They just fail to execute when I try them in game.
If the inputs show when you’re in training mode but it doesn’t come out when you’re playing for real, then it’s not a mechanical/technical issue, and probably just execution.
When you’re in training mode with inputs showing and you’re testing for this, you’d mostly likely be consciously trying to make sure that your inputs are correct. Which is different when you’re playing the actual game.
