I see people say this all the time. Is that a bad thing? Not everyone has a solid fighting game community around them or years of dedication to the genre in order to be respectable at the game and compete online. Fighting games are difficult as it is and we don’t need new games that have volumes of obscure “tech” that is giving “elite” players the advantage in battles… AKA a handicap for a handful of players that don’t represent the whole community.
On one hand your saying people act “badder” then they are yet you are vouching for a higher skill gap which encourages pompous behavior from top players and elitism?

The “decreased skill gap” doesn’t matter anyway as the same group of players will always end up on top. No amount of beginner friendly mechanics is gonna help a newbie beat a Daigo level player. Comeback mechanics, one button specials, auto combos, and like ultimately make no difference closing the gap. If such things help people get into the genre then go for it.

Also, the skill gap has been getting narrower and narrower since the original street fighter. At least as far as execution goes. Look at the difference between ST and 3S; it’s waaaaay easier to dragon punch and fireball in 3S and honestly most new players geek out and get hype over just being able to do that. Doesn’t mean it’s any easier to get top 8 at EVO
Only issue is that doing hype things feels good. SF5 is notoriously bad for the lack of hard things a lot of characters dont have.
But then agaim, not like doing CCs in A2 was hard. Rose clone suoer shenanigans werent hard either. ST definitely has some, but you can go super far without them. SF4 got everybody cucked in the head thinking you needed hella execution to play SF. Once you look at the games and the things you actually do in them, its kind of crazy how little execution is happening a lot of the time.

Exactly. If you have years of experience and understanding you’re going to still be leagues ahead of anyone else. Sure, comeback mechanics can screw up the meta, but if it gets someone a win online against a slightly better opponent so they keep playing, I think it’s a good thing

I don’t mind doing me no favors. Shrug I’ll put aside my difference with you though. I’m sorry if I hurt you or the other guy’s feelings Bow. I would like you to understand this though, the fighting game community has a terrible reputation. They’re not exactly the best people.
From most of my experience, they lie, throw insults, never really help anyone, throw a lot of worship to certain people, etc… I’ve helped way more people with Guilty Gear than I’ve ever been helped. And to top the cherry on the cake, my favorite series has been turned into something that made it less fun. I don’t mind if it became easier, but there’s just things about it I find deplorable. Not to mention how the game doesn’t ever evolve or become interesting. Plus, it seems pretty intentional from the company themselves that they keep the game’s balance in certain ways. I don’t play Potemkin but he shouldn’t purposely be the crappiest character in the game just to make a bunch of people happy.
I feel like ASW has been the worst about it. Lately, it’s just been the same old crap. Hit confirms into long combos, then another long combo, then another long combo. Setting up seems far less useful in their games than it use to be save for the dumber characters and the more dumb your character is, the more rewarding they are to play. It’s as if they’re trying to appeal to newer audiences. Oh wait, that’s EXACTLY what they’re doing. They’ve pretty much admitted it and yet the fanbase still lives in denial.
My issue more comes from that though. The fact that the fanbase has some kind of devotion and trust to a company because of their name and not who they are as people.
