Has this forum died or something?

Lol! Could anyone in this forum be more “The Man” right now? I’m really glad that you are picking up Hawk because I love to play as him, but I’m a pretty bad player and I’m glad that someone else is figuring stuff out for him.

I have a couple things I want to test in training hopefully I can make some small contributions here and there with basic stuff at least to try and help figure Hawk out.

Anyway you have my gratitude. Real talk.

Yeah come back in a few weeks son

spire is the best move hawk has. It’s safe from the right distance and IMO if your not spamming it your not playing hawk right. It’s like a variable distance dash that has AA properties and goes over lows. Who cares if the start up is long it’s not a poke. I thought I peaked with hawk but after playing with him more he’s pretty bad ass. If you like links and showing off your big cool combos don’t play hawk.

No strong mix up game I guess a splash cross up that stuff most wake up revesales that you can smp to dp for a 300ish damage no meter combo without links. Or a emtpy jump to spd or ex spire or dp mix up or cross over hp spire to dp or spd. fake splash with elbow drop to spd. O and cross up dive. His mix up games top tier just not god tier like giefs. I think I will be using him in touneys more.

I wouldnt go THAT far… Danmishima might…Had an intresting thawk mirror match with him the other day… lets just say spire played a heavy role.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can take my lumps. Your Hawk is excellent, for sure - I have no problem admitting that. But holy hell you had that spacing down exactly. I may have had a better showing not under the influence of adult beverages, but yeah, I got destroyed.

Spire surprises me (and other players) and I think I figured out why…you can walk backwards and then explode forwards. It NOT like charge chars like DJ, because you KNOW he can do that and you’re automatically programmed to react to charge states. So you got this big ass grappler that can seemingly walk back then jump right back in your face. Possibly 3x in a row in one round, but, yeah, whatever.

I would go that far. spire is the shizzle.
jumpin splash cr jab, jab jab (jab–hits some characters), far lk xx ex spire OWNS people. goes over sweeps/beats some mashed reversals/trades with other things/goes through projectiles. you can even get free ex tomahawk ex dive if it pops them up and the meter usage makes sense, otherwise, right into lp typhoon on block.
Nobody expects hawk to do actual combos that then lead directly into mixup again. stuff is ridiculous.

I’m going to start a how to use spire thread.

Good idea.

This would be awesome.

And yet, in only 4-5 days of playing him, TAMANAPANTS has already proven himself more knowledgeable on T. Hawk than you have.

Apologies, didnt mean to sound trash talk-ish… As a rule I try to avoid that. You put up a good fight, and I was really “On” that day. My spacing and execution isnt ALWAYS that sharp…yet… Im getting better everyday.
You may be on to something with that idea though. I frequently walk back a little bit to adjust spacing so that it comes out safe or short for the strength Im using depending on what I want. Maybe we could intentionally futz with the timing on walking back to throw people off.

Oh dude, I didn’t take that as trash talk at all. It’s all good. Any time you want to work on testing crap, we can do an endless so we can record it and get button presses. Komradekraig and I are going to go this too…I just need to get a bluetooth head set so I don’t have to try and type on the little pad with my big fat fingers.

Thanks, but don’t go too far! I’m just posting stuff I find and have taken plenty of influence from Ultra David and Gief option selects as well as my own “test and see what happens” approach. I tried playing some Honda again today - was okay, but after 10 or so matches I was back to Hawk lol.

I agree with the view that spire is an option to close spcae quickly - its like a command dash as people have said, that if your oponent happens to jump or do something daft at the wrong ranges, also gives you some good damage. As an offensive weapon to purely cause damage though it’s not your best bet.

Oh and to people saying Hawk should have FADC’able specials, do you have any idea how broken that would be - spire FADC backdash Ultra or Tomahawk Buster FADC backdash into whatever. if you are using EX Thomahawk as a reversal you can still get safe if they block with an EX dive and you used 2 bars just like the shotos!

Oh yeah…if he could FADC specials he’d be untouchable. Think about J D+FP, LP > CL MP xx Spire FADC ST LP > CL MP xx Spire FADC > Delay so they block and it resets the damage scaling THEN tick them into U1 or Buffer out U2 in case of jump back…or start the whole Option Select process. Drool

I keep harping on this, but imagine if DF+LP was 2 hits and still cancelable like it is now? Just like if he could FADC, you would NEVER get away from him once he got in. It would be either eat a combo or eat a throw with no way out.

You can FDAC some of his normals though, but only some of the ST close ones. You could theoretically do CL MP > FADC, CL MP > FADC > Ultra1, but you would have to be unnaturally fast.

Big issue is his dash speed against good players - thye see the flash you are lucky if you are following up with anything - this why he has spire I guess because his gash is like he is trying to dash trhough quicksand.
