Doesn’t that just mean you’re turtleing a bit too much in the first place though?
Certain characters can get your bar flashing with little to no effort involved, like Voldo IIRC.
I really like the CF system, but they need to rework a few moves to not do so much (or so little) Soul Gauge damage.
There is something seriously missing from the series these days that could really only be described as “magic”.
Soul Blade was magical. The mood of the game was bright, colorful, fantastic, and adventurous. The music was flawless. Every dang track was flawless, capturing the mood of the game so well. Felt like you were playing a movie.
Now looking at where we are now, everything seems much less magical. Everything is darker, slicker, more “hip”…that sense of bright-eyed adventure is missing, probably because the music isn’t as epic as it used to be. It just feels less magical.
I don’t know, maybe it’s a sign of the times. Soul Blade is more than a decade old, coming from different times, different tastes. Maybe “magic” isn’t in vogue anymore…
Thats debatable. If youre playing someone whos thinking as much as you its easy to get a time out, poking, spacing and playing footsies.
Besides, most characters can get your bar flashing with 6-7 moves. It doesnt mean a lot i guess. At least they increased it, before the patch the soul gauge broke 50% faster.
Only a few characters have crouch throws, and they can be broken (Asta, Rock, Xianghua, and Cassie).
Also, Cassie’s 236:** isn’t safe; it’s -15 on block, and it isn’t even the best punisher. It only does 20 damage on normal hit (and puts the opponent into a sort of juggle state on CH). Sophie’s TAS B:4 is faster (i15, compared to Cassie’s 236:** being i16) and does far more damage(50 normally, and 80 if you nail the :4 input).
You can 2B8BBA after a connected 236**. It’s not the best punisher in the game (Hilde owns that category), but its as good as most character’s launch punishes and a few frames faster than most launchers. When you’re talking about 16 frames vs. 19 frames, that’s a hell of a lot of moves you’re talking about.
Yeah, it’s good. I was just pointing out that it still isn’t as fast or as damaging as Sophie’s punisher. Just figured I’d correct the wrong info.
Brings back so many memories

SE- Never played it
SC- Best 3d fighting game EVAR! Played the crap out of it
SC2- It was ok, had good times with it at my local arcade
SC3- Complete shit
SC4- Mediocre. Graphics and Online was all that it has against the other SC games (and the online wasn’t that great). I raged so hard after buying Yoda as DLC
I hope the next one is really good. SC used to have so much hype where I live, now its nearly nonexistent
I have a love hate relationship with SCIV. I love it because of some of the concepts shown in some character changes (primarily Tira’s) and it’s new characters. I hate it because there is a lot of silly shit in the game and the balance makes me “lol”.
My nostalgia for the original SC, along with the inclusion of my two favorite characters, Tira and Setsuka (even though they were introduced in the worst game of the franchise), is really what keeps me holding onto the franchise hoping Namco gets there shit together. Not sure how long I can keep holding for though.
…no. I’ve never played the first Soulcalibur, but honestly, there’s no way that it tops the Virtua Fighter series.
Please…if you haven’t played it, I ask you to refrain from making such statements. VF is deep and all, but seriously, SC1 is unstoppable.
I’ve seen the first Soulcalibur played. It’s not as good as Virtua Fighter. The best 3-D fighting game ever is Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution(or perhaps Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned), and from the looks of things, Virtua Fighter 5R: Revision B will usurp it. Soulcalibur is good, but if it were a hall-of-fame masterpiece, then it would still have a strong tournament scene. It doesn’t.
This person speaks the truth. VF4 might be a lot deeper, but SC is a complete beast. And you really do need to play it, its so cheap theres no reason not to buy it.
Seen?
It’s great that you’ve seen it and all, but I’ve played both Soul Calibur and VF fairly extensively (although not at tourneys), and I’m of the opinion that SC is a more fun, and generally better game, even though there’s more stuff going on in VF. Also, claiming that it should still have a tourney scene if it’s good is a little ridiculous, mainly because 3d fighters never seem to have the same tourney life as 2d fighters for whatever reason. People seem to give up on the old ones once the new ones come out more readily than with (certain) 2d fighters.
I’ve watched people play it, seen a good deal of video footage of it, I’ve just never really gotten to play it for one reason or another. I’m actually not entirely certain why I’ve never played it. It wasn’t from a lack of desire to play it, that much is certain.
Started going downhill when they put people like Spawn in it.
Haha, yeah anything with todd mcfarlane turns into garbage. Fortunately 2 was still a sweet game, but it could only go downhill as soon as they ran into that guy.
There isn’t any serious problem with SC4
it’s just boring after awhile, not enough imagination
