I don’t think it is as turtle-y as most people think. Holding down-back only happens when certain characters get ultra. The difference between pre-ultra gameplay and post-ultra gameplay is one of the largest I have seen in any fighting game. For example, Ryu / Sagat / Rose’s and others ultras change the game to the point that the risk of jumping in or attacking them just isn’t worth the benefit especially with the fact that if you trade with a SRK you are still eating an Ultra.
I said it when the game came out in arcades, and I’ll say it again, Ultras fuck up the flow of the match on a competitive level that should not exist. That, and CVS2.5 is totally accurate. It IS turtle-y, even before ultra.
Play Frank first round in a tourney.
Listen peeps. The game revolves around easy damage, look at who’s considered the top tier and realize what they have in common. If the game is as turtly as you put it, then Guile should run shit. But he doesn’t, cause he doesn’t do any fuckin damage. If you’re complaining about turtling and you pick Zangief, either stop posting on message boards or continue to do so and jump off the Space Needle. I know a couple people that work there so we can get shit arranged. Thxthxthx.
CvS2 boiled down to turtling because of wacked out priority on normals and ratio format. I don’t see any crazy GIDDLICK normals in SFIV outside of Barack’s low jab. It’s a stupid analogy to make.
I’m not following your mind set here…there are turtle situations in SFIV…but it’s definately not as turtley as CvS2…oh and it shouldn’t even be call CvS2.5, cause there’s not teams…and no roll cancel…and I can’t choose if I want a rage bar…it’s already there.
Play me first round and I’ll show you how unturtly SFIV is…unless you want to sit on the sidelines and run shit out of your mouth again like the last tournament.
I’ll break it down like this since you’re going to ask where the hostilities are coming from. You want to try to take a stab at me because I got 5th palce and other ppl were taking pokes? Well guess what they entered the tournament and 2 of the ppl actually placed higer than me so in a way they can say that. But YOU? You didn’t even step up to the plate, so you lost your doo doo talk privelages at the door. Just because your friend won the tournament doesn’t give you an all access pass to talk shit or take stabs at people.
Not sagat/ryu’s low strong? Not dictator’s low short? There are lots of godlike normals in this game that give you stupid frame advantage and safe poking that is quite reminiscent of CVS2. Just because there are four characters or so in the game that rush shit down well doesn’t make the game less slow in general. Guile doesn’t own this game because he sucks. A lot of fighting games boil down to matches of patience, but even the most rushdown SFIV is about the same pace as a Nuki chun match.
Thanks for suggeesting I commit suicide because I have contrasting opinions to yours, Mandel. That shows a lot of maturity. Not that I’m implying I’m mature, so don’t go on a rant about that.

ManDizzle is correct, SFIV is not as bad as CVS2 in that regard. Still on the fence about this, but I feel that 2 meters is kind of pushing it in this game, which is where people complain about the turtling. It just boils down to preference at that point though.

About Gief, well he is buff. I hate how he “feels” in the game, but he still relies on the basics. It isn’t since the console release where I finally get the chance to play someone not Jason at GW beasting with Akuma. Personally, that is where my hatred for this game grew tenfold, no fault of Jason since that shit costs money and he was putting in work. Unless it is Akuma or SAGET, you have a chance with Gief to rape.

LOL really Jamie? SFIV Ryu’s low strong versus CvS2 Sagat’s low fierce or standing short in CvS2? SFIV Bison’s low short versus almost any of CvS2 Cammy’s normals? Not even in the same league, not even in the same galaxy. The Zangief remark is not only directed at you, but anybody that picks the one character in all of Street Fighter history that always gets turtled against and complains about it. You know what you’re in for when you step up to play. But anyway enough about that…

Mandel is spot on and to be fair, I doubt anyone enjoys playing against Zangief. I wish I was able to rush his ass down with Balrog hoisting the American flag proudly but that isn’t the most effective way to win so most times I’m just chilling within headbutt range and smacking him in the face and even then I still get hit by his 720 and lol as 70% of my life goes away, just ask Pablo. I don’t find this game to be “turtley” much at all and it will be even less so once people start fucking around with FA and learning poke strings and cross ups more.
If people still think CVS2 poking isn’t effective, play Poongko. Ryu is Cammy.
I admit, it is hilarious when nigs rip on Kuenai and the gang bang gets unleashed. Sometimes I wish I could garner that much hate from people. KUEAUEANAIsANDESU, it may be better if you preface your posts with a question. Otherwise people will come at you hardbody when your statements are not 100%. What the fuck is a PoonGookGo anyway? Additionally, with regards to Mandel/Lotharz, one thing that really pisses me off about the grappler game in SFIV is the playing field. Sure, in ST, if I went for some sort of tick set up, I would be putting myself at risk with the opportunity of great rewards. You could at least force the opponent to react. In SFIV it is like I need to work hella hard for the slightest opportunity at an opening, and even then it could blow up in my face. Then again, he does great damage so there is a trade off there.

I just bought SFIV, so add me, and when I get some free time, you know I will be trying to FA and getting hit by fireballs over and over again. It’s on!
