Happy Birthday to God, AKA Shigeru Miyamoto

Happy birthday to one of the greatest minds in not just gaming but entertainment:party: Miyamoto is one of the very few pioneers who’s innovations have yet to be rivaled let alone surpassed, he’s the fuckin best at what he does:tup:

Just bought mario3D land last night and omg this game is so amazing, much better then the disappointing NSMB DS, it’s shocking how he continues to keep the 20 year old mario formula interesting. Sure he’s made a lot of changes with each iteration but overall looking at the mario games they’ve fundamentally changed very little compared to most other long running franchises and that says a lot for how ahead of his time he was and in some ways still is.

No, in the context of gaming influence, I think it’s appropriate to call him a ‘god…’ as long as you’re a polytheist. Nintendo’s utter resilience makes Miyamoto’s genius easily identifiable to this day, compared to other gods like Yu Suzuki or… Yu Suzuki. Oh and don’t forget Yu Suzuki.

Yoshio Sakamoto has admitted he doesn’t know where to go with Metroid. It shows.

Miyamoto has made some absolutely amazing games but I kinda feel like he’s lost some of his steam these days. I wish he’d let go of Zelda. He holds it back imo.

Miyamoto hasn’t been directly involved with Zelda since OoT, I think. What I mean is he’s not the one at the helm, Aonuma is. These days I believe Miyamoto is more of an advisor, like he has been for other games.

He steps in and goes “No no you can’t do that” all the time.

A little insight into what Miyamoto actually does.

EDIT: That’s not a gay porn link. Promise.

I don’t blame Miyamoto for stepping in most of the time since those are his babies and most of the time he seems to only step in to say something when something is really bothering him about the game design. That whole story that Retro had where they were having trouble developing Metroid Prime and Miyamoto stepped in and gave them this crazy ass vague advice makes me wonder what would have happened to the Prime series had he not have put in his 2 cent?

Though I don’t have the source right now, I’m pretty damn sure it was Miyamoto was who recommended Retro be the ones to work on Metroid in the first place.
