Halo guys,
Recently I found interesting thread about xbox360 controllers and their pcbs. I have a stick with Happ p36- and I want to use it with xbox. I found, that the easiest to buy common ground controller for xbox is a madcatz xbox live arcade stick. What I want to know is, if anybody of you using p360 with any pcb out there. I just want to be sure if it will work at all.
It should work perfectly fine. The Happ Perfect 360s, the Sanwa Flash, and the ASCII Optical sticks all require 5V power, and the Mad Catz Arcade Stick and even their regular wired X360 pads should work fine with a P360.
Not to hijack your thread or anything, but I’ve got a few questions regarding optical joysticks as well. When I checked up on slagcoin’s official wireless X360 PCB diagrams, I noticed that neither the early or late versions of the controller have output for more than 3.3V. Do the official wireless PCBs really not have any pin with higher voltage?
Also, on a semi-unrelated note, does there exist an extension cable for the X360 controller’s breakaway connector? I don’t mean those extension cables with breakaway-to-USB, I’m talking breakaway male to breakaway female. I know that O.Xbox had such an extension, but does there exist one for the 360 controller? And if not, will the O.Xbox’s breakaway extension work on a 360 pad?
The wireless controllers run on 2 x 1.5v batteries, so ~3v is all you’re going to get from them and it’s less than that running from the PnC pack or rechargeable batteries. If ya want a 5v source with a Wireless controller you’ll need to install a DC-DC converter to get it, something like the Minty Boost works fine for that.
The old XBOX extension cable will not work with the 360 controllers, the ‘quick release’ ends are very different. Best thing ya can do there right now if ya want it to be like the XBOX extension cable is to get another controllers cable and cut the USB plug off the end, then solder that to the end where the controller was and there ya go, 360 extension cable. If ya want to go even easier than that just get a USB extension cable, as it’s just a USB cable, no 5th wire like the XBOX controller had, so no need for a custom extension cable as any USB extension cable will work.
Thanks for the info RDC. Looks like I won’t be able to use a wireless controller if I wanna future-proof myself in the event that the Sanwa Flash is rereleased. Bummer about the extension cables too, not that I expected to be able to use an O.Xbox cord anyway. I’ll just have to get one of those Mad Catz breakaway-to-USB extension cords.
I’m only thinking in doing arcade stick on madtatz PCB. Wireless will not work for me.
If you’re going to use the MadCatz controller you’ll be fine, it’s common ground and has a 5v source to power the P360 as well.
I was thinking the same thing. But I just wanted to find out if any of board users actually did it.
