Hand position question

This is a real noobie question but what is the usual hand positioning.
I have it set up like this for KOF.

BCD
A

Do I use my thumb for A or do I use my index finger while using my pinky for D?

I realize this question is gonna make some people’s head hurt, but my first time playing kof on a stick was today on ggpo.

however you want…a lot of players dont even rest their fingers on the buttons and use index/middle/ring for everything

Most modern KOF arcade machines are set-up like this now:

(A)©
(B)(D)

The way you have it set-up is less common now, but personal preference. I like the modern way. With longer vertical set-ups I tend to not rest my hand in that position, I just use my index & middle. As lame and redundant as it sounds it’s whatever is more comfy.

I’ll be using the same hand position as for SFIV which is the same as TCs. On my TE stick, it would be like:

BCD
A

I put my thumb in A and go from there. I think this will be better as you have faster reaction when you roll or want to throw. Whatever you’re comfortable with though.

Thanks for the info. I wanted to see what people were working with because I didn’t know what button layouts are most common.

IF

AC
BD

is arcade standard now, then I guess i’ll have to go with this.

Yeah, most I’ve seen god by that. I know a couple recent KOF games have the

(B)©(D)
(A)

but they could have been put into an old cab. I guess it’s best to play both ways really.

When I saw a KOF XII cab it was

AC
BD

same for XI, which had one extra button for the BO attack.

BCD
A

seems to only be for the old red cabinet.

I’ll be using the “official” arcade layout, but in the end it’s all player preference.

thats my perfered method. tehre’s also

(A)(B)©
(D)

and also a straight Row. i like the first one most tho on my ex2. it just works perfectly

And thats my preferred method ever since I switched from controller to joystick many years ago.

I play KOF XII on my pad same way I do for Tekken: fingers resting on buttons. On stick I haven’t decided whether I’ll do four across or four in middle.

Four button games are so convenient.

I use the default but use my thumb because I also play Blazblue. :3

can any body tell me what position of buttons have used xiaohai and dakou in kof98?

Unless you are playing in an arcade, why does it matter? Just use the layout you are most comfortable with.

ABC
__D

Would seem the most practical layout for ease of use for Max Mode, Quick Max canceling, rolls/dodge, and CD attacks, but I can’t get used to it.
AC
BD
Punches on top, Kicks on bottom is what I grew up with.

what buttons layout used by chinesse?dakou or xiaohai?

Chinese layout is normally:

ABC
D

I like ABCD in a row.

hmmm thanks for the replying,so whats your opinion which neutral button layout is better for the kof98??

i use the same layout as they do in China/Hk since i used to play at chinese arcades:
ABC
D
