So that, basically, is covering the events of the early Halo EU literature in vid-form/listing bullet points rather than going balls-deep in terms of world-building like the first few books in the franchise did.
I thought the collection was going to allow you to jump into a literal port of each game, but it’s actually all well organized under one system menu. You access every game from the same menu, all the multiplayer functions are in the same menu, and you can start up campaign missions in seconds across all four games. The best part though is the diversification of the Multiplayer playlists. There’s Team Slayer across all four games, Halo 2: Anniversary Playlists, old-school Halo 2 playlists (which features EVERY SINGLE HALO 2 MAP EVER) Halo 3 and Halo 4 Playlists (also with EVERY MAP AVAILABLE FOR EACH GAME), and all kinds of other shit…
Everything runs at a constant and smooth 60FPS, and you can snap back and forth between the original and new graphics (in Halo 1&2) in a split second. At ANY point and time during gameplay.
And If you thought Halo 1 was impressively remastered, oh fucking boy. Halo 2 looks like it could’ve passed off as a high-end 360/PS3 game. It really just looks that good. And the maps that they recreated for Halo 2 were designed masterfully.
My only grievance so far is that Halo 2 is the only playlist that has an actual ranking system yet…but they’re going to add in ranking systems for the other games soon, so I guess that’s alright for now.
The online on mcc still doesnt work well. They need to compensate people who bought the game at this point i feel. I bought it just for the mp and managed to get into 1 match which i promptly left because it was teleport city. I hate halo single player, shit is boring and too drawn out also the fact that you spawn with human weapons at the start of most levels and then are forced to use covenant weapons because there are no rifles layihg around for obvious reasons always bothers me. Also the halo story is so boring.
Okay maybe the story, story wise is okay but playing it as a video game is soooo boring. The levels are boring and it just gets lame. Destiny suffers the same shit. Hell i dont really see how they didnt get sued… That shit is reskined halo… After playing destiny then going to halo single player i cant help to see 1 to 1 copy of halo. Its not awful completely but single player stuff feels boring in these shooters to me.
I’m not a fan of playing against AI (Bungie’s Halo games did have some of the best AI I’ve seen), it’s got the best story telling I’ve experienced on xbox. Halo4’s campaign was ass, it felt like they needed another 6 months. Games like CoD I just say fuck it, straight to multiplayer, nothing could bore me more than rail shooters.
I’ve been calling Destiny a reskinned Halo since day one, I’m surprised people have stuck with it.
Even with the constant backtracking collecting keys ?? :\
I just looked forward to the next cutscene, the revelations of human history were mindblowing.
Right as i said halo single player = boring. Destiny is even worse because all the enemies run away from you constantly its like playing hjde n seek its so annoying at least in halo the elites were in it for a battle to the death.
Halo 1 feels like an eternity ago, I can barely remember it. Other than squeezing my warthog into the lifts so I could drive it around inside the halo, those Elites didn’t know what hit them lol.
Destiny is a nice spiritual successor to Halo, but yeah blows it completely on a story level.
Running throw MCC campaigns since MP no like working, yeah, they a little sluggish on the movement in wide open space, but once the combat gets rolling they still some of the funnest campaigns around.
Halo 1 SP still my favorite, looks sparkly in the 60 fps. Fuck Two Betrayals though. Man i hate that mission.
Halo 2 looks great and has so many great…moments. But it still has trouble pulling itself together. so much empty space and unpopulated areas on the Master Chief’s side of the story, and while he gets the best vehicle bits, you can blow throw Outskirts/Metropolis Delta Halo way too easily. 2nd half of the game is still a confusing mess tho, even with the visual upgrade.
Halo 3 is pretty good, aside from just having short levels
Halo 4…it’s okay. I liked having a sprint for SP, but the campaign is dark and gloomy, with the dullest AI behavior in the series. Like nothing funny happens lol. Oddly enough i liked SP sprint but thought it kinda made MP a little to much like COD for my tastes.
I think all the games’ campaigns have good and bad points.
Halo 1 has some amazing ideas but you can feel lack of weapons and features from later games. Also lots of retreads, backtracking and reused level geometry.
Halo 2 has an amazing story but its mechanics and encounters aren’t nearly as refined as Halo 1. The gameplay just isn’t as fun and enemies feel less fair. Those legendary jackals never miss, right?
Halo 3’s story has some cool set pieces, but wastes the Arbiter by making him just a co-op character. And Truth has a way better voice in Halo 2. Aiming feels weird when jumping around between the other games. Still, I think the warthog run is best “escape run” of any Halo game. And there are some plot holes that needed later books and side materials to patch up.
Halo 4 tries to get ambitious with whole new faction and weapon set, but things get confusing if one didn’t read the books. I did read the books and loved the pay off. Also certain particles and animations are scaled down to very sad levels. Taking out what is essentially a massive flying scarab should cause a huge shockwave and shake the screen. All it does is make a sad “poof”. The shot effects when using the wraith and the scorpion are similarly underwhelming. I love the trench run at the end since the it’s the combo of The Maw and the Long Night of Solace I never knew I wanted.
