When you see things coming at you, try to block as late as possible. Sure you’ll eat stuff you shouldn’t, but remember your aim is to improve. How can you ever be good at IBing, if you never try to IB?

IBing exponentially helps on block strings, because you IB enough, you can stick out a 2D or a 6D and catch them. This will make them afraid if they see you flashing white a lot in their strings in the future. This in turn gives you some breathign room on overly aggressive players. This is all oversimplification of course, but that’s the mindset behind it.

Dude! Good shit! I knew stuff like this was possible, but never really knew how to do/tried to do it. Like you said, this is soooo helpful for Nu and a few other chars as well!

Anymore tips for fighting the big 3(V, Rachel, Arakune)? I keep getting walloped by Arakune, and V and Rachel aren’t exactly walks in the park either. Played a Rachel today that ate half of my life in one combo, I mean, man, shouldn’t I be doing that!? D:

Yup No problem. Remember, Hakumen is heavily dependent on meter, and any opportunity for free meter is an opportunity a Hakumen player must capitalize on.

Even though the video seemed to be telling me:
“With hard work and quick thinking you can beat both Nu and Arakune, but Rachel, well… that matchup’s just hopeless”

For some reason I was expecting another incredible comeback there at the end that never came.

Not to rag on the dude though, that was some very nice Hakumen work either way.

What jump combo is he doing? the one that starts out like a 236a 2b the some 2c or something I think. the one he gets rachel in the corner with and gets on nu a couple of times.

I had been trying since the videos were posted and they weren’t working with the re-director. Someone’s gonna have to give me some Madden-styled commentary on them. Anyway, thanks to this thread my Hakumen is getting better. Whoever posted the tip about looking at Hakumens knees during his combo that starts with 623a, a - I can’t thank you enough.

i know this sounds weird but in certain games i just CAN’T block Nu’s sickle chaser (normal forward one) i’m holding 3 but it just won’t do it. there’s no exclamation point, nothing. I just get hit like that. and it’s costing me the match against 5dd 6dd 236 d spammers :[

…3? you do realize that to block low attacks you need to press 1 right? Assuming you’re on 1player side

no ‘!’ means you weren’t attempting any kind of block. What kind of controller are you using? You might need to practice hitting those diagonals. Or if you’re playing online, then you need to block sooner then you think, depending on the connection.

4r5 is right. Though I always thought a yellow “!” meant “You should’ve blocked low” and a red “!” meant “You should’ve blocked High.”

Oh that’s probably it. Because a lot of times it’s either the entire game i can’t block it, or i can. I"m guessing the times i can’t block it i’m lagging a tad. Thank you!
also on a side note.
In the vids zazzarius was showing us, do any of you do
throw -> guren -> dash -> 5b -> 9 ->5b -> 5c?
I’ve pulled it off a few times in training mode but it’s only like 200 dmg more than the normal 6c variant. I’m guessing vs. nu it gives better positioning though? seeing that you’re right next to her (albeit without air options)

I recently joined the BB singles at the TX Canadian Fighting tournament, It was my first BB tournament and I placed 7th with my main hakumen out of 30 people. I was 1 of the 2 only hakumens who entered lol (I believe the other Hakumen placed 27th)

The vids haven’t been posted up it seems, but when they do I’ll link them here.

I lost to a rachel in the tournament, My health was being chipped away from projectiles and wrong counters punishments T-T
