Hakan Video Thread: Ready for Action!

Knew what to do?? He only oiled up twice and just spammed fierce. The comments on the video said the Abel player had no idea what do against the Hakan, which makes me the think any one who used Hakan for 5 minutes could’ve won.

Edit: He only oiled up twice each round, wtf.

I haven’t seen any matches where I’ve been impressed by the Hakan player, including any of these, any of my own matches, and Daigo’s matches. It’ll take a while before we see that, I think.

I think that’s because of Hakan’s lack of combos. Matches that generally impress me involve great setups into decent chains and links.

With Hakan, for the most part, you can’t tell if something was intentional or the dude was just spamming crap and got lucky.

It’s almost like watching some Sim matches… was the guy just getting lucky with pokes, or actually reacting perfectly every time? Sim at least has some great combos though.

Well he knew more than me. s.HP is a pretty good all around move, and he countered Abel’s U2 with a slide at the end which I only discovered yesterday after an Abel caught me with it when I tried jumping since I had no idea how else to react.

I think he also did a focus DNC when Abel tried to counter focus, which is hella smart.

I suppose… the Abel ran him through 2nd game though (), which leads me to believe he didn’t really know what he was doing all that well.

I also meant to say he only oiled up twice per round… seems like most Hakan players know it’s sometimes worth it to take a hit to get oiled up.

I could not agree with this more. No one has come close to even slightly mastering basic hakan play from what i’ve seen.

What would make you impressed? Not trying to say your wrong, you are completely right, but it would interest me to know what you are looking for in a Hakan match. Is it how well they anti-air? Stay oiled? Keep the momentum?

Again, just wondering so I can see what to improve on.

All of that + I’d love to see some dizzies and perfects.

^ or any way to capitalize on a focused unsafe Slide on hit.

where are the fireballs???

Antiair, footsies, oiliness, use of tricks and shenanigans, keep momentum, all of that. But mostly, I want to see a gameplan. I have not see a single strategic gameplan so far. All I’ve seen, including from me, is people run around the screen not knowing whether they even want to play offense or defense.

Let me ask you this: unoiled Hakan, offensive character, defensive character, or zoning character? I don’t think anyone even knows the answer to that most basic of basic questions.

I think I know what zoning is with a projectile character but with a character with no projectiles I’m unsure. What do you mean by him being a zoning character?

Also do you have any thoughts as to what type of character he is?

I play him sorta offensive but this just depends on my opponent. If they’re doing a lot of jumping around then I play defense. If there on the ground most of the time then I kinda do both I guess…

I still don’t really know what Ultra I want to be using most of the time and why but I’m thinking U2 to scare ppl into jumping so much.

I know what the answer is for me: defensive character, hands down. It’s true that he has some effective offense even when unoiled, but against any halfway competent player there’s no reason to try to get it in. That’s because when he IS oiled, it’s doubly effective. So my gameplan is like this: I turtle up hard until I see what they’re going to do. If they rush me down I block and wait for an opening to toss them across the screen and lube up. Then he becomes an offensive character, and there’s really no choice involved there since you have a limited time to take advantage of your optimized state and keep the momentum (and oil) flowing in your favor.

So I say unoiled Hakan is defensive. That’s because his offense is too unorthodox, and what kind of grappler wants to zone?

Honestly for me, it depends on the opponent. If the opponent is rushing me down, I’m playing defensive as hell waiting for their mistake so I can score the knockdown and get some momentum. If they’re playing defensive and lack a quick full screen move i go to full screen, oil and pour on the mindfucking.

I am finding too that a lot of people (all online fighting game geniuses :amazed: /sarcasm) will rush an unoiled Hakan and turtle once he is oiled. So I play a defensive unoiled and a somewhat offensive oiled (somewhat because I am still playing with focus DNC’ing pokes and such).

Honestly though, my entire game plan is to stay really patient and beat them un-oiled until they fall down and then bring out the lube. Oddly enough this is my exact gameplan for date night too.

LOL, hey Guru, were you around to see the match I had against that Sagat in our Endless battle yesterday? I would love to upload it for the finish alone but I don’t have even the most rudimentary capture equipment.

Was that the Sonic Hurricane beating Sagat’s U1? That was so damn delicious. I wish i could’ve played more but the lady was on her way.

That WAS good but I meant my Hakan match against that dude. I’m gonna have to invite you to my channel later to see it; it’s a can’t-miss.

Good stuff but why no air grabs?
