I agree. I’m highly skeptical about stacking oil. Also, Seth himself never said that oil stacks. That guy sitting next to him during the interview asked that question, which anyone could barely even hear. Seth kind of just brushed him off nodding his head saying “yes yes” and explained that Hakan had different versions of Oil Shower. It didn’t even seem like Seth registered his question, I don’t blame him. I could barely hear what he was saying.
lol i think that seth thought that by “stack” the guy meant “reset time” which it is obvious that it does… as far as stacking time… that would be decent: hk oil to trade with a fireball, then ex oil to stack… would be pretty damn too good imho… i really cant see this actually stacking… but who knows… capcom gave rufus a dive kick that activated iunstantly when he leaves the ground and can be done from any jump…
so they arent really beyond doing shit that makes no sense… it is capcom after all.

I’m not so sure it’d be that far fetched for some aspects of w.e oil does at this point to stack. . .
damage boost doesn’t seem that big, and the time it takes to set up multiple oils doesn’t seem to give you much room to do anything really bullshitty. . . but probably just a misunderstanding on Seth’s part anyways. . .
damn though watching that seth interview. . hakan ultra two activates low to the ground. . .ibuki’s toes hadn’t even hit air yet and she was getting wedged in his thighs. . .
Yeah, I don’t think duration stacks. Probably just resets the timer. We should add this to the list of things we want clarified/tested ASAP. Like the “defense” modifier from oiling up, link possibilities while oiled, and properties on Oil Rocket’s normal and EX versions. We probably won’t have the solid numbers for oiling up bonuses until they let us get in training mode, though (might not be until console release).
I’m still going to shout “Yes homo!” whenever I hit his AA ultra (Unless I’m against a female character)
I think that hitbox is just huge.
If you look at some of the GDC videos you can see it activating with them halfway up in the air.
so, if hakan is getting zoned by fireballs, he can ex oil. what else can he do after that to really get in besides the slide? is that what’s expected to be used to get in? i don’t know of any of his other moves having fireball bypassing. Seems kinda worthless to burn an ex to not really have any way to get in afterwards.
Well slide is supposed to go right under some projectiles so that could lead to free damage, and he does have the duck and cover thing so there may be some use in that at mid range if it can cancel. . .go from that into dive grab/slide after you duck a fireball
The slide when oiled is very fast, it should beat a fireball on reaction. It can also be fadc’d So you can oil, slide, then fadc back if the slide gets blocked. Also after you fadc back, you are just one f+hk away from grab range.
walk up and block
go master the Honda/Sagat match-up and you’ll be fine.
That is good advice, although Hakan should have more than enough tools to get in range with all his command normals, oil buffs and special moves that move him forward or avoid projectiles completely.
Considering the benefits of oiling up I could see myself eating a hadou in the face just to get roundhouse oil off since oil still takes effect either way, right?

You should know how to grab and yes he has and Air Grab
Honestly, between his st hp and air grab, he’s got some very good anti-air, which was earlier considered to be his weak point.
Gonna lmao if he can kara step low like another character. . .
if you fadc slide, is there any followup? i can see some combo potential if you’re at decent frame advantage. maybe you can fadc the slide into a tick oil coaster or combination hold. if you combination hold right up against them, they’ll slip on it right?
would like to see someone go into a more in depth look at hakan. so far, the only confirmation i’ve seen on any type of links is when he’s oiled up. seems like a pretty easy character to play if all he does is slip and slide around and command grab.
I don’t think he’ll be that easy to use. You’ll have to know all the properties of his moves in both states, sort of like Gen. And trust me, when I forget what stance I’m in as Gen it can go wrong fast.
Also, slide fadc, wait, then trap ultra in the corner might be possible, but only if trap ultra will beat a fast invincible startup move like a srk. I can see getting reversal srk’d out of trap ultra, but outside of that you should be able to time it so there’s no escape.
Slide knocks down, so Oil Coaster is definitely no dice. Oil Combination Hold sounds hella shady, too. But who knows.
And when you say it like that, any character with grabs sounds easy to play. But the reality of it isn’t so simple. Especially when you consider he’s reliant on a duration-based buff mechanic to be at his best.
yeah it knocks down, but fuerte can lk after a tortilla. there might be some type of new state unique to hakan after you get slid under where you’re available to be hit. It hasn’t been tested so i was just kinda spitballing. unless hakan is really just able to hit a downed opponent after the slide. It would at least give him some variety. Now that all the oil buzz has calmed down, he seems kinda stale. if you compare him to his closest playstyle equivalent in sf4, zangief, i think he won’t be that flexible. his mixup game seems to just be mid/high/air grab. the grabs don’t seem to be as fast as gief’s spd, so you might not be able to tick into them. can you end a combo with slide? you might be able to vortex when oiled up with lks into slide/lks into tick oil…squirt…grab?/ grab. looking at his moves though, he only has one special that isn’t a grab. green hand was part of gief’s bread and butter. I might just be overanalyzing him a little, but it’s kinda late and i’m starting to ween off the hakan hype.
also, i don’t think he really needs to rely on the oil shower. if you choose to oil after a throw, you lose a mixup opportunity. if you slide and oil up, you miss the followup. the only time i can really see oiling up as viable without giving the opponent time to get their bearings is while hakan is getting zoned. Perhaps only as a means to get in. if you take the time to oil up, it might do more damage, but you’re also missing the damage opportunity of mixups after knockdowns. Now my tomato soup has gotten cold…
anyway. i’m not hating. i think he’ll be pretty cool. but i’m worried about him becoming too predictable without enough options.
I think most of his damage will be done through his normals. Grabs should be used sparingly, when you use them, they have to land. I really believe Hakan’s strength will lie in his normals more than his grabs.
