Hakan Thread: I love my daughters, they are so pretty!

I just noticed they tap the ground 3 times during his second ultra, like giving up in wrestling after a submission move.

Why red? Because red, cyan, and black go amazing together.

Just ask Remy.

him and juri remind me of some of the characters in ‘Jet Set Radio Future’ especially the hair! hakan looks v awesome.

man alot of the new ultras have an awkward moment of unneeded spinning, they could have had a little less spinning on his 720 ultra but its shorter then geifs at least.

Any confirmation of his invulnerability to any throw not being a command grab? I could swear this info was leaked some time ago

The Shoto Sliders! Fuck yeah.

jsut got home to find the trailer and pics. interesting character. The only thing I don’t like about him so far is his stance. Too much like Blanka. I’m not sure iol wrestlers have that kind of pose/stance. Minor gripe really.

Maybe wont main him because I’m not into grapplers other than Abel (If he’s considered one) however he looks interesting enough to warrant some look into him. good thing though, He looks so fun to play. Maybe more in depth trailer like the wong did with the 3s characters to see what he can do.

Dhalsim didn’t have a problem throwing him in that vid on the main page.

Well I dont think he was oiled up when he threw him, we arent talking about his normal oil before the match but during match oil like when he is super shiney

OK I just came across this… WTF?!
is this an existing character or something
it looks like ryu or makoto but the stance and position seem off, maybe an alt outfit or something, im not suggesting a new character or anything just wondering what the hell this is
This is the original image at the end to the Hakan Trailer

and this is the same image outlining the character

I was thinking more super macho man from punch out, or maybe al swearengen from deadwood. BTW, when is ian mcshane going to start voice acting in games.

Honestly, I’m hyped for the character. I love him to death for his style and design.

Gameplay-wise, eh we’ll see. SO FAR I haven’t seen anything in his gameplay that convinces me that he’ll be amazingly godlike. As far as I know, he has two command grabs, a slide (with a splash follow up) and the ability to oil up. As of now, most of us probably don’t know what the true effect of the oil is. His normals, as we’ve seen, do a decent amount of damage and are pretty decent. His move speed as we know currently isn’t very fast, which may have an effect on his footsies game. We don’t know whether slide or splash is safe, and we don’t know the true properties of his Oil Combination Hold ultra.

I’ve already dedicated myself towards learning as much as I can about Hakan when the game comes out. My mindset is that he may be good, but I don’t expect him to be easy to play or incredibly amazing. Drawing from ONLY WHAT I CURRENTLY know, Hakan’s troubles will be similar to that of Abel’s. Without a wonderful reversal or escape move, I would expect him to have trouble against rush-down characters such as Akuma, Rufus, and possibly Juri. Getting in won’t be a problem, for opponents who like the mindlessly throw fireballs, but he’ll probably have trouble getting in on opponents with excellent normals (Chun Li comes to mind, Ryu has a decent set of normals as well). In short, I think Hakan has potential, but don’t expect it to be an easy ride. You MIGHT be pulling your hair out just as much, if not worse than before.

Also, as a final word, if you don’t currently main a grappler and you’re thinking about maining Hakan, I suggest you pick up a grappler right now. Honda, El Fuerte, Abel, and Zangief will all teach you many things about playing a grappler. It’s an entirely different animal.

He gets tossed a couple of times while freshly oiled.

i retract my last comment about being super oiled up, i didnt know there was gameplay vids on the main page

So what’s the oil up move for then?

Yeah. Right now I play Honda and Fuerte. Fuerte is quick, but people try to run like hell. Honda, though? Jesus Christ it’s like I spend 80% of my time chasing down my opponents (local scene blows so I tend to play online). Getting an Oicho in can be tough, but it’s rewarding in the wake-up shenanigans you can pull on them. Plus, once you make them afraid of the grab they can make all kinds of other mistakes. Most people that complain about or don’t like grapplers have never tried them or just aren’t open-minded to the playstyle.

So far, I don’t see anything that looks like a definite go-to move… but we haven’t seen much anyways. I’m hella interested in that body slam he seems to be able to do post-knockdown. Or is that part of one of his throws?

Agree’d. From the Dhalsim match, Hakan could not keep up. I know, the guy didn’t know what the hell he was doing, and Dhalsim did…but Hakan looks like he has to stay oiled up to do his slide and his shananigans…if he doesn’t, I don’t think he’ll be threat.

And from the looks of things, he’s probably got to be played like Abel…all mix up, nothing brain dead. So yeah, we got to wait and see what he can do…but Mid tier at best I think. No grappler can match Gief in SFIV.

his hidden finishing movie is “The Turkish Breakfast”

It’s already been answer that it ups the speed and damage on some of his moves.

Yes I find Abel a bit tough getting in but his style is not always about the command throw/tornado throw. Which is one of the reason I hate grapplers. too hard to get in sometimes. I find I do better with abel’s mix-up shenanigans to do damage than focus on his Tronado throw. Hakan seems more of an in your face and most his damage comes from his grabs and such. Abel has more speed than any of the bigger grapplers. Hakan seems to have ways to get around Fireball pressure with his slide. Still too much to see and I can’t say ‘so little time’ as we still have 7 weeks. AHHHHHH1

hmm didn’t see this post but if that is the way he’s going to play I might like him. Although i think he will be more foucsed on getting in and getting command throws than mix ups but who knows.

Watching that footage a few times I’m pretty convinced that what you’re seeing is simply Ryu “hadoukening” the game logo like in the very first trailer.

Here is the that dhalsim match

Also, watching this match, I took a few notes and found a few interesting surprises!

Here it goes…

=========================================
jump-in strong
a two handed bash-chop similar to gief’s.

hakan dashes in when attempting his bearhug

has a command crouch that avoids projectiles (like blanka)

focus attack comes out FAST

Hakan get’s knocked out of his animation while trying to oil up, but when he recovers he’s successfully oiled up.

standing forward or command normal?
Hakan shifts his body and launches in a kick, comes out pretty fast and has good range but it doesn’t look too safe. kind of looks like honda’s overhead but without the overhead stomp (see 0:53).

standing strong?
a chop where he swings his arm over his head and down, doesn’t look like an overhead but it could be.

at 0:55 Hakan player uses that standing forward or command normal again, it is GODLY fast. It might be a very useful tool to get in on opponents from mid range.

standing fierce command normal?
at 1:01 we see hakan do a double palm strike on the ground. It looks like Honda’s neutral jump fierce but on the ground.
Note: This normal appears to make Hakan slide forward just a little bit…

That kick that moves him forward is GODLIKE

his dashes look surprisingly fast

can be thrown while oiled up

What really caught my eye was his coward’s crouch (like blanka’s) and his kick which moves him forward for quite a distance (I’m guessing it’s a command normal, probably towards+forward kick). The command crouch is a bit weird and out of place. A lot of his normals seem to have quite a bit of recovery time, so it might not be a good idea to whiff normals outside of your range unless you want to eat a sweep.
