Hakan Moveset and Attributes

beside that only MP-JAB slides can go unter fireballs (well timed)

Can anyone help me find the list/video that details all the stuff that EX Oil Shower can avoid. I know that it can obviously avoid FBs but I remember seeing a youtube vid (and list) of it avoiding unconventional stuff like Viper’s BK, Dictator’s psycho crusher, etc. Where can I find that stuff? Thanks!

To be honest from my experience, I never use that in those unconventional ways. It’s not just because I’ve never attempted to try it against non-fb characters intentionally, but any character can find a way to punish you for it after seeing what you’re obviously trying to do. And using it as an evasive maneuver on reaction to something like a psycho crusher, would definitely leave you frame disadvantaged.

@Metroxylon
i dont think so

actualy it can avoid Galaxy Tornado als excample since Rufs s.lk .–>s.HP xx Galaxy Tornado is no Real Blockstring it can be used awsome good to avaid the damage and then f+MP–>360+HK for hughe damage hughe time of oil and good positioning and since he get hit standing he can not crouch ^^ recovery is good althou

Yea I’m not actually looking for this due to Hakan. I want to see if Gen’s EX roll and EX Oga will have the same evasive properties. Both of those moves avoid projectiles. I just wanted to see if anyone compiled a list on the forums or had a youtube link to the video.

EDIT: Found the vid

I don’t know if this has been pointed out yet but

if you are oiled up and you hold a focus attack with Hakan

You can move Hakan while holding the focus attack ONLY when oiled

Was known even before the game was released…

Now, a little something I noticed on the execution side and which I find useful for DNCs: the directional input you use to slide around when oiled counts for the dash cancel. Not sure how you’ll put that from a technical perspective… Maybe say the first input is buffered or something.

Basically, you can:

  • input and hold forward + focus attack up to the very last minute and dash cancel by pressing forward again only once

  • or even: input and hold forward to walk forward, start focusing at any point and still press forward again only once to dash cancel

I find this pretty usefull when it comes to DNC execution in many situations.

360k is actualy a move on “prediction” and not “on reaction” sadly :frowning: if someone can use it “on reaction” pleas shout out loud and name me situiations its a damen good punisment with OILTIME AND Positioning…

It is a prediction move and also a very good wake up option if you can get the timing right and nail someone on their wake up animation where they stand for about 3 frames. I’ve got it decently and man oh man does it hurt. Jumping HK into forward MP into FP slide and follow up. As soon as they wake up if they don’t have a DP (or you trick them into falling for it) do the HK oil dive and watch how Hakan takes into total easily 50% health with no EX moves or no Ultra. You can also catch people on wake up with his super but the timing on that one is way more strict.

good point Gravehunter. To add to that, Hakan’s jump normals all have a lot of active frames, and can actually hit standing players at the peak of his jump. Knowing this, you can use his jump ins for mind games by either whiffing the normal (when a player thinks they have to block), then going for a grab, or by adjusting when you land the attack; early or late. Hitting a jump in early is risky and most likely wouldn’t give you a combo opportunity, it’d be more of a 50/50 scenario that prevents people from jumping away or at you. Hitting it late can provide tick throw opportunities along with combos. I mostly use j.MK or HK for jumps, though HP has the most active frames with a little less damage than HK, so I may try that one out.

About DDT being prediction-based, I find it works best against runaway characters and other grapplers. I advocate oil use partially because it catalyzes EX Dive/Rocket on defense and offense, which can immensely help against grapplers, specifically Abel. EX Rocket means they can’t pressure you. Normal Oiled Rocket means they can’t use attacks that leave them at frame disadvantage, or neutral, or be able to just sit around right in front of you. EX Dive means they can’t throw you. So basically when you’re oiled, and have meter, grappler characters would be putting themselves in 50/50’s just by coming at you.

Interesting point. Yet another thing I must utilize in my match ups against grapplers. Thanks for pointing that out.

the problem is, that all those options are extremely punishable.

Which further emphasizes Hakan’s risky style of gameplay.

So I random super’d a Balrog pointblank, he U1d, I won :open_mouth:

you must have used the jab version, as it has hit invulnerability.

congrats

I don’t really know why I believed this without investigating it, but after some testing tonight, Hakan’s u1 has exactly the same range when oiled as when dry. Turns out it says that in the frame data too. Did you guys know this? I didn’t.

@Ultradavid

thats why i prayed from the beginning to use U1 its the best 360 in the game specaly becouse of the HUGE Range^^ it hase some flaws (no invincibility as excample) but it deals Massiv damage OILED and unoiled its dangarous too

In all honesty, I try playing Hakan as safe as possible. And it can be done with the help of DNC. What I said about using EX Rocket/Dive against grapplers wasn’t supposed to seem like those are Hakan’s only options. They are risky, but they can be used on reaction, or after getting comfortable enough with the match-up. Consider Abel’s step kick. When you’re oiled with meter, you can EX Rocket it. Even when you’re just oiled, you can focus it, hit FA1 then combo from there. Possibly even back dash normal cancel it. I don’t know for sure, I really haven’t tested out DNC nearly enough.

I suppose, just to be clear, one should first consider the power of oil before attempting oil + EX. Because it’s really not good to think that Hakan was designed to be an all-out, paint the town red, footloose and fancy free, balls to the wall, no holds barred, c’est la vie, gone with the wind, take no prisoners, etc… character.

It’s not really a problem that a lot of grappler players play with that mindset since a lot of other players of other characters (and other grapplers as well) can get caught off guard enough to further encourage a “shoot first” playstyle. Hakan is fortunate enough to be a tank, that it could even be recommended to go all out with him from time to time.

same range, only difference is the +50 to damage

same range, only difference is the +50 to damage

Thanks for the tips.

J.HP tends to whiff on crouching characters (unless done very late?), so I don’t really see much point in using it for jump-ins over j.MP, j.MK or j.HK
