Hacked DLC characters being used online, thoughts?

To game is to be at a financial loss. It is a money pit used by a variety of people, for a variety of reasons. How long have you gamed? How many systems have you had? How many games? Ummm hmmm… And you are getting none of that back.

However, since I started gaming, Capcom has released some great games that I have found fun in, and in this case, with this SF property- we all agree, or we would not be talking. I find no issue purchasing extra content for a game or series that I enjoy that allows me to get further enjoyment out of my favorite characters, story, gameplay, etc… I think paying/investing extra in something you enjoy to get further enjoyment out of a fun title rather than risking it on a new title that could possibly be swapped or shelved in a month is a solid investment to me.

The Rolling Stones said it best- “You can’t always get what you want…”

Valve definitely is a good example of a company doing smart marketing plans to get respect from their customers, but it’s not exactly true that they have never cut a portion of the game to release it later.

Not sure if you remember when it happened, but L4D was supposed to have been supported long-term through free DLC, and much of L4D2’s new content was originally designed as content that was supposed to be free DLC for L4D, and L4D2 was sold as a full price game exactly a year after release. Basically equivalent to the MvC>UMvC3 model aside from UMvC being slightly less dev time but slightly cheaper. The ironic thing is, the current SFxT fiasco would have been avoided if they did that type of disk release for the new chars, and it would have cost us more money lol.

Don’t get it twisted - the dev team has admitted that after L4D1 they took a short break and then began work on what became L4D2. The L4D1 DLC was from prior work and the development that actually was after release was L4D2.

But Valve has definitely been a bit smarter in not making what they are doing obvious, therefore building trust with their customers. For example when it comes to console releases, they avoided on-disk DLC by making sure games like L4D were exclusive to 360 in order to get around the patch size limitations and allowing them downloadable DLC on 360.

Then when it comes to Portal 2 they put together an exclusive deal with Sony when they added the functionality to link it to steam accounts to bypass the limitations, so now they are in good graces on both consoles.

Smart business for sure, and Capcom could learn something because if they used their exclusivity leverage properly they would have done the same. But that’s the thing about Japanese game development companies that has many of their employees upset…

i said cut a portion of the game and sell it later. also i don’t care about capcom’s prices for character costumes as they are just cosmetic and do nothing more than enhance the game from a superficial aspect. team fortress keys are similar in that they aren’t things that are important like characters or classes. if people to spend money on costumes and “keys” then i see no problem with that. once again i never said i was opposed to dlc but i am diametrically opposed to what happened with sfxt. i don’t supported companies cutting content from the game and releasing it later or completing dlc before the game is even finished.

i think that while i don’t like it all the same, turning what should have been dlc into a full title is a little different than actually cutting something off a game and releasing it later. everything else about your post i agree with.

Well the L4D1 DLC basically was cut out and released later, since all the development after release went to L4D2 (aside from the level design kit which was designed for L4D2 but worked with both since it was the same engine).

I mean, it wasn’t paid DLC, but it’s still a bit dirty because part of their marketing promise to get people to buy L4D1 was that they were going to support it long term thru DLC and you won’t have to buy anything.

Not related, but. L4D2 ruined L4D. RIP

I just want Cody, man :frowning: Capcom done locked up mah boy again.

I dont see a problem paying for these once they come to PC

Pay capcom for their work, and support the platform/PC port.

You hack them and you are only cheating yourself. They aint gonna make games or content they dont get paid for.

i just want lei wulong, sakura and dudley.

Their is actually a lot of dlc on that disc besides the characters. I saw that some of it will be free, so why lock those features to begin with and why call it dlc? Their is also dlc on the disc they haven’t even announced yet.

I actually like this game, I hope they will do more fighting games in the future or atleast release cvs2 on xbla.

There is a cody/elena player on the peacefuljay stream right now. lol

Actually I think the PC version comes out in May right? Thats around the same time as the PS Vita version (characters unlocked on start) and when everyone else can legally use the characters. So chances are you’re going to have them right out of the box.

any alisa players show up?

I dont think I’m looking forward to christie. Havent seen her gameplay yet but I remember in Tekken 6 i was playing against one of my friends with her for shits and giggles and all i did was palm every button on the controller. Moves came out, shit happened, and I got my first win via button mash on Tekken. Although I will say I’d rather have Christie in the game than Dragunov. You can never tell when to block or dodge >:(

i love how Combo Beast (the guy who was playing with the DLC characters in the video) has been trolling this thread the whole time, and only 1 person figured it out, but they were too stupid to realize he was joking in his posts. then everyone just went back to arguing with each other about stupid shit.

I understand what he’s been doing but I’ve decided to leave it alone. So many trolls lately. I figured if we don’t feed some of them then they might die.

Yeah, I fought a Blanka the other night. My thoughts: Pretty Cool. I hope I run into more characters.

Yea May 11th, that would kick so much ass.

You could probably hack your XB to use a different MAC… probably… maybe…

I assume putting it behind a router and having that router use a different MAC, like for some device on your network you never use (like my iPhone’s Bluetooth MAC or an old DS), wouldn’t work for some reason?
