So I booted up the replay channel, went to Elite, and the first replay I’m treated to is Wolfkrone playing someone using the team of Bryan and Lars. Didn’t look like they were actually. Looked like dicking around with the DLC characters.
Huh.

Sure 38 characters on xbox; 43 characters in SFxT if you have the PS3 version, which is 1 more than Tekken 6 (I didn’t know we were talking about TTT2). So yeah I suppose it does have more characters. Still even if it has a few less characters I wouldn’t say that you’re getting ripped off paying $60 for 43 characters (or even for 38 characters) as that’s still more than most other fighting games.
I was talking about this issue with someone else last week, and he said this:
“Used games are almost the standard on how we get new games nowadays. They’re cheaper overall and it’s more bang for your buck. The companies don’t see a dime from used games sales, so DLCs are a way to continue getting a guaranteed profit. That’s why MK9 had an online code that you had to pay an extra $10 for if you got it used, and that’s probably another reason why Capcom is holding the DLC for later (apart from the commitments to Sony).”
It’s an interesting point. We always talk about how the company is screwing over the customers, but at the same time it’s easy to ignore how we screw over the company with stuff like this.
Company dont profit from sale that stem “store => consumer” they shipped copies to store and consumer buy them. Their initial profit is made. They’ll get more money if store need to order more copies of the game.
If a game is quickly availaible in the used market, en masse, it’s because it wasnt good enough to have people play it for a long time period or disapointed people.
So no, we dont “screw over company” with stuff like this.
There’s a pulse…
can we be BFF?
blue the thing is Companies are trying to kill use games(and the market) as we know it, and there is a unnatural amount of gamers who either don’t take advantage of used game or outright just dislike the idea of used games.
Developers like EA, THQ, etc. make things like Online Passes popular in the idea of killing used games, as there is the incentive in buying a game now, same thing with these outrageous Pre-order Incentives, Collectors Editions, and some forms of DLC, Games that recent major offenders of these are Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3(online pass, DLC), Resident Evil: ORC(DLC), Asura’s Wrath(pre-order) the list goes on…
People are arguing saying we are not getting completed games anymore…the offenses above enforce this statement. on the outset, SFxTK even without the data mined hacking exploit, we would have has still dealt with the problem with Gems, the SE and pre-order gems are still not available for download, and the tournament patch for gems haven’t been released yet either…so on that end people who bought the standard edition are still eating the short end of the stick…
This is the kind of crap that kills used games as a whole, and what usually pisses the consumer off is the re-release of a game complete with all the DLC or extras or AKA, Game Of The Year Editions. Batman, Fallout, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil 5, and many more have done this…GOTY editions ultimately kill the used “original” version of said game, as they usually release these versions after they have received their fair share of purchased DLC. Before we were able to buy a game, new or used without needing to worry about online passes, or buying a DLC season pass or worrying if you should buy the collectors Edition at a certain store. At lease we know for SFxTK there isn’t going to be a GOTY edition having all the DLC unlocked already…we don’t need to worry about online passes for it either(thank god), If you bought the game used, you didn’t really miss out on anything…and frankly buying the game used was most likely what alot of people should have done…you get 7 days to see if you like it or not. back to used games, i don’t see the problem people have with them…sure you’ll get a lemon every so often…but its not like your stuck with it…there is little risk with Used games as there is with New games…why are people so inclined to shit on used games? I would like to get to the bottom this…it makes no sense tbh. blue tell me what you think about all this…
\o/
Also i might add on the whole “online pass” and “pre-order bonuses” debate. Is Online pass justification is “company does not get money from the resale of the game” my post before covered that this wasnt really a case of consumer screwing them over BUT.
The online service of the game is supported by the sale of the game for the number of player using the game.
When a game is re-sold, it’s does not add one more player for the server of the company because the person who sold the game, cant play this game online anymore -_-.
Another incentive to pull the plug on used/old game market is downright shutting down servers like what EA does for games who arent older than 3 years :/.
I’ve got nothing against used games. I got KOFXIII used and WWE All-Stars used, and they’re two of my absolute favorite games for PS3 now. I’ve also got no problem with anyone getting SFxT used either (I got it new just because I usually get one or two Day 1 release games per year and the rest I wait on until I’ve broken in the new games and I play catchup). I do agree that GOTY editions are lame, though. Most of us would prefer waiting for the game to go down in price and then get the DLC as we see fit, unless it happens to be a fighting game where we’ll probably need DLC characters ASAP for tournament use. I was actually considering picking up MK9 until the Game of the Year edition was announced. Not only is the game still $60 despite being out for almost a full year now, but it’s basically a big middle finger to those who did get it new first day for $60 and paid the other $20 for the DLC.
I was discussing this with someone else a couple of weeks ago, and his statement was that the price model for new games is outdated. Paying $60 for a premium edition and $40 for a barebones edition (without the DLC) would make more sense so those who got it cheap can dive into it a bit and then get the DLC later on, while the people who paid full for the premium or collector’s edition get the necessary DLC included. Capcom has done something similar to this in the past with MVC3’s collector’s edition, which included Jill and Shuma.
In regards to SFxT, I won’t call it an incomplete game because at least Capcom gave us stuff like Replay Channel right out of the box instead of doing it the second time around like they did with Super and Ultimate. I was just talking about why the DLC is the way it is while looking at it objectively. The way some of us go on about corporations and the borgeoisie, I wondered if maybe the entire internet adopted Marxist culture and we were on the verge of another Communist revolution.
Corporations want money nothing new, it’s what were built for, maximising profit, i’m no communist by any mean, just calling a entreprise made to gain money in the more efficient way what it is. It’s not about bourgeoisie either, the contrary in fact.
a video game is worth 60 to 90 bucks (the big collector edition) or 70 bucks for limited editions.
In europe it’s the same but in euro (so yeah…asshole a bit sore about this one).
60 to 90bucks, for something definitely frivolous. It’s near luxury product statut on a fiscal P.O.V.
You have a right to get your money worth, especially with BRAND product like capcom FG.
in regards in the game being “complete” i fully understood what i payed $69.99 for on that faithful night at gamestop…and im content in what i have~ I’m looking forward to the DLC on the 3rd though like im excited for the XIII-2 DLC on the 27th of this month…
This is how I’d like to see Capcom make their money. Would make [S]everyone[/S] most people happy.
Release a new version of street fighter every year, with new stages, costumes, characters, balances, etc.
Maybe add a few new features or extra things like customization, tournament mode, new meter bar, ultras, supers, hyper combos, etc.
charge $20-40 depending on how much stuff is added.
We get a fresh update and new stuff, Capcom gets money.
Pretty sure this is very wrong. Its the other way around. The gaming companies pay Gamestop, Bestbuy, Etc to stock their games.
Educate yourself. Second half of the episode
Before anyone says Pachter is wrong, I will not question a man who makes 6 digits + a year in advising investors which gaming companies to invest in. He also does a great job explaining how much money goes where. You’re basically robbing game devs of $10-$12 per game by buying it used and instead giving Gamestop the $30+. This is why companies like Capcom and EA are charging for DLC that may already be on disc. They want your money too. It sucks but its basically Retailers competing with Video Game Companies for our money. In the long run we lose because we get charged for things like this.
Although I personally don’t support used games, That is one way to stick it to them. Buy it used, Capcom won’t see a penny of that purchase.
Basically fuck anyone and everyone who has problems with people using content already on their disc.

The video doesnt contradict me.
Of the 60 buck tag price, the game company “make” 60% of the full price that is what it is told.
I think it was svensson who said that the game company get paid when they ship.
So basically what is being said is, game company sell to gamestop/bestbuy etc… (not counting the grosser and all) to the price of around 80% of the final retail price. and give 20% of the final retail price to sony/microsoft/nintendo per unit.
then gamestop/best buy etc…re sell the game for a 20% margin.
it does not contradict the fact that the game company touch their 60% when they ship the games.
it is never said that the game company pay gamestop bestbuy etc…
Patcher is not wrong but you are :/.
