Hacked DLC characters being used online, thoughts?

Capcom could have sold the game with 20 characters and called it complete. Hell capcom could sell us a game with 4 characters and call it complete… and arguably it would be complete… Doesnt mean it’s complete to me though does it? As soon as people found out 12 characters were finished and locked on disc made the game incomplete. Simple as that. And one thing everyone knows, supports, haters, capcops cannot deny if no one datamine the disc and found those characters… Capcom would of lied through their teeth and said they were incomplete and be deceitful in some manner.

I’m a Dudley player, so to me that fact the game is incomplete. And a game that advertises multiplier and it’s competitive nature locks CORE content like characters makes it VERY incomplete. the DLC outfits, combos, gems, colors all are meaningly… but characters? come on… i remember the days when people were defending on disc alternate outfits for sf4… and peoples main argument was IT’s optional and you DONT NEED those outfits… Well this aint very optional TBQH.

Capcom is getting alot of flak, and because they are trying to make a quick buck short term. They are killing themselves long term… They have to be kidding themselves if they think Darkstalkers will do well (a niche title already) (made by capcom ie dlc, super, shady bs) (not a street fighter, marvel, tekken brand)

you know, everyone is rationalizing that 12 chars for $20 is a bargain. I sort of agree, it isn’t a terrible deal.

but what probably happened was that this was in response to people discovering the characters on the disc. do you really think capcom went through all the trouble of making 12 full characters before minting the game and charge only $20 for them? they were planning on charging WAY more for these chars, and that’s the real outrage/betrayal at hand. they managed to assuage some people (as evidenced by some in this thread) but the majority still understand that this was a giant steaming pile of bullshit that they managed to top with whipped cream after the fact

these kinds of practices erode consumer trust and will alienate capcom’s supporters. with the deluge of new games out, capcom is really doing themselves a disservice by these blatant attempts at exploitation

if they had spent time and resources to making the game polished and perfect instead of creating characters that people would by-and-large not have missed (and which they could have worked on after), they decided to go the sleazy, lazy route all while presenting a game with numerous critical flaws which are unacceptable for a flagship new IP

I completely agree that Capcom would be lying by omission. But they are not lying in the sense that the game is complete without those 12 characters. Understandable if the game is incomplete to you because Dudley is your favorite. But this is where people’s arguments will fall flat. Why did you buy the game then? If Dudley was the only reason you wanted to play the game and you knew (at first) he wasn’t in the game, why buy it? You lose the ability to argue its incomplete because you either A.) Bought the game not expecting the character or B.) Knowingly bought an “incomplete” game which becomes your own fault for not researching the product. Either way your knowledge of the DLC characters did not affect your willingness to purchase the game. Unless you bought it after the DLC announcement/hack then yes you can have somewhat of a grounds to argue its incomplete.

Whether or not you now think its incomplete (legitimate to think it is incomplete as an opinion) the fact is Capcom sold you a “complete” product as you bought it well expecting Dudley would never show up. Are you not happy that you discovered after buying the game that Dudley is going to be in it? You seem more angry than anything. You’re getting Dudley and who knows he may be like $2.00 because they never released how much it would be just to simply buy 1 character.

Here’s the bottom line. The game can become “incomplete” as someone’s opinion, but in a business and in a court of law (lol at people still thinking they can sue over this) if it is deemed complete at launch then it is complete no matter what else was on the disc.

I am quite interested to see how the sales of the DLC characters do after this marketing fiasco. Will people truly boycott the characters? Or will people stop complaining because they earned their $20 allowance in the next 6 months. I think this will be a true testament to whether or not the community can put their money where their mouths are. Even though I will most likely buy the characters I won’t chastise those who don’t as it can be a way towards change.

No doubt the game is complete. Problem is they’re charging us $80 bucks for it and making us wait 6 months to play the full game…

Read most of these post, I can see why capcom do what they do, and are successful.

I’m amazed at how far most are going to defend it.

One mentioned[S] hackers[/S] the good guys should go to jail…

Its no question that hackers did indeed do something illegal.

It doesn’t matter if it was a “good” thing.

What has been done that is illegal? The game is not licensed to us. When you buy a good (Which is what video games are considered as) it is yours to own and you can do whatever it is you please with it. If you want to burn the game in your fireplace, you can. If you want to hack the disc, you can. It’s yours. Taking characters online violates a single TOS, and that is Sony’s. And the only punishment for it can be removal of service. They can’t sue you, they can’t brick your console, they can’t do anything but deny you from PSN.

Except that this goes against Capcoms terms of use…you know that thing you agree to when you purchase their products…ya that. I’m not sure if it conflicts with Sony’s terms and conditions(there is no way in hell im going to bother reading that to prove a point) but i know in capcoms it clearly states that altering or modifying the software is against their terms of use.

if your sure that it doesn’t matter you can go ahead and do it…i know i won’t…

life goes on…

“THIS AGREEMENT DESCRIBES THE TERMS ON WHICH CAPCOM ENTERTAINMENT, INC. (“CEI”) ALLOWS YOU THE ABILITY TO PLAY THIS ONLINE GAME (THE “GAME”).”

While you could debate the above statement at the very beginning online/offline. The truth is, that you have to accept this agreement to play on PSN with a capcom game. Meaning at the very minimum, anyone playing with hacked characters online have broken this license agreement and this agreement is with capcom.

#5 is the part where using hacked characters breaks the agreement.

Doesn’t EULA mean “end user license agreement”?

I don’t agree with the whole completed content thing in the first place. However, saying that hacking the disc wasn’t illegal is just wrong.

Pretty sure that Online agreement states that Sony (and by that extension Microsoft) have the right to ban your account or brick your system if caught playing a version of the game with unauthorized modifications on their network. This obviously extends to people who alter their Sony or Microsoft online accounts or modify their systems in manners which the companies can detect and choose to enforce the license agreement on.

EULAs aren’t law, and modifying the game files probably wouldn’t constitute copyright infringement since you aren’t attempting to copy and resell the game or the data files, or attempting to claim ownership of the game or intellectual property itself.

No…just no.

Denial.

The funniest part about this thread is that capcom has been the pioneer in fucking people over in regards to dlc content and yet we still see surprise and shock.

I just wish someone would hack the so called dlc for Kof 13 so I can use regular Iori without having to pay 5 bucks.

The eula doesn’t mention copyright in that regard, it simply says by agreeing you won’t modify. Which is what has been done.

-trolls suck-

It isnt illegal to mod your console, iphone, or hack into game disc. sure it violates an agreement though.

It isnt illegal to mod your console, iphone, or hack into game disc. sure it violates an agreement though.

So then what’s the point of an agreement?

Good question.
