I never got the timing to hard tag doom after BV -_- I miss this a lot
That’s OK. I’m trying to learn it myself, just so I can have Doom as an option. Hate playing as the guy, though.
Something else to consider is running Dorm AND Doom like @Kresent does. You lose the easy unblockable setup from Tenderizer, but you still get crazy oppressive rushdown with Firebrand, plus both Plasma Beam and Missiles are great assists for Dormammu. Doom is less wacky than anchor Skrull, but he should do fine as long as your first two put in some work.
IMO, Firebrand/Doom/Amaterasu is the best Firebrand team, hands down. However, I can understand the love of the Dormammu DHC, which is why I main Firebrand/Dormammu/Doom.
You get to keep your DHCs between Firebrand and Dormammu, while still getting hard tags into Doom. If you’re worried about having Doom/Dormammu/Firebrand from a hard tag, you can either A. Kill with Sphere Flame, hard tag back to Firebrand, B. DHC into Dormammu to have Dormammu/Doom/Firebrand.
Option A lets you put Firebrand back on point as if you didn’t hard tag. You built way more meter with Doom than Firebrand would have.
Option B lets you have Dormammu on point safely (Who is the purpose of the team) with a good TAC behind him. If he dies, you get Doom on incoming, allowing you a chance to DHC into Firebrand safely, giving you LB Firebrand with Plasma Beam, TACs, DHCs, and hard tags. Alternatively, if Doom dies on incoming and Firebrand lands, you get XF3 Firebrand who, with Luminous Body, can basically 300% a team with fireball loops into incoming unblockables.
You should definitely go with FB/Dorm/Doom over FB/Dorm/Skrull. Having Doom ups your Firebrand’s damage/meter significantly(Hard tags), gives you more TAC options (Since Skrull has no good TACs), and you get Plasma Beam. Having Skrull gives you characters specific unblockables and a stronger DHC.
Really, Plasma beam should be enough reason. Skrull has no good assists. Only situational ones. You have nothing to deal with full screen battles, or any way to put out quick durability.
UMVC3 is two years old now. You can’t get away without having a good neutral assist anymore.
Skrull gives the unblockables, and is a good anchor (unless they have missiles assists or some really strong zoners) his assists are average at best, that’s why our second char can also play the anchor game if needed (both doom and dorm) and meteor smash/ elastic slam are great tools for a character that plays alone most of the time, and that is made even better if he got an assist in his back.
but yeah, ammy is 10X better than super skrull on anchor no questions asked, but I’m still learning to play ammy, so it’s either the unblockables with skrull or the pure rushdown in doom/dorm, and I preffer the unblockables (I’m still trying to get the hang of it, the timming is so tight)
also, what do you guys think it’s the better order?
FB/Doom/Skrull or FB/Skrull/Doom?
He’s not that good of an anchor, he’s just a good XF3 wackiness character. Not really the same thing. And even then, he’s not that good.
I’d say FB/Doom/Skrull, since Doom gives you better DHCs and the TAC infinite. If Firebrand dies, though, it might be best to find a time to tag in Skrull because Skrull with Plasma Beam is much more threatening than Doom with Tenderizer.
Skrull is no vergil or phoenix, or not really comparable to the top tier anchors, but he has some nice tools when fighting alone and can OTG by himself, he’s an OK anchor IMO, he can get the job done until I can play a better ammy
XF3 Skrull not that good? He’s top 4 behind only Vergil, Phoenix/DP, and Strider if you ask me. However once XF runs out I’d give him mediocre at best.

XF3 Skrull can get the job done just like most other characters in XF3, but I feel like he gets overrated a ton. I wouldn’t put him in top 4, random Meteor Smashes can only do so much.
Ammy> Skrull IMO, better assists, better character, and has much more options, but skrull is a hell of a character, he has nice tools for an anchor, an OTG and can escape incoming mixups, that alone make him a good anchor, not to mention that his damage output is just insane

What does he provide to a team overall when he’s not on point, though? The answer is “Not that much”. So no, he’s not really a good anchor. He’s a decent XF3 comeback character if you want to put him in that position, but that’s pretty much it.
not to mention that his damage output is just insane
So is the damage output of almost every other character in the game.
Firebrand/MODOK is actually quite tasty.
Strider and Ammy damage is sub par when not in X factor, but they have more potential as anchor because of they have good assists as well (and they are just insane with X factor)
Skrull is there because of the lockdown assist( a important factor in a firebrand team), and he can do a decent job as an anchor.
He’s no strider, ammy, akuma, vergil or phoenix, but he has that lockdown going for him, and that’s pretty much it

Firebrand/MODOK is actually quite tasty.
how so? I play modok and am thinking about picking up firebrand for some easy TAC access but outside of that,m what does modok provide firebrand?
Also what does doom plasma beam give firebrand that makes it better than say magneto or iron mans beam? Does it make bon voyage on the ground safe or something ? Or the dp+m move?
EMD is a great beam assist, but it’s too fast to really do anything for Firebrand.
Unibeam is probably the best overall beam assist in the game; it locks down for a good long time while also leaving the opponent standing (and vulnerable) on hit. This makes grounded Bon Voyage and Demon Missile M safe on block, and also allows mixup opportunities. On the other hand, Repulsor Blast is arguably the better assist for Firebrand since it locks down for-freaking-ever and provides high/low and unblockable setups. However, both of these great assists come attached to Iron Man. Take that as you will.
Plasma Beam has nearly as much lockdown as Unibeam and makes the same moves safe. The only real drawback is that it puts the enemy in soft knockdown instead of standing. Fortunately, Firebrand is usually able to capitalize off hits while being completely safe on block. Additionally, when compared to Iron Man, Doom also gives hard tag combos as well as slightly better DHC/TAC options.
Yeah, Iron Man is pretty bad =/
he was part of my original team of Firebrand, Iron man, Ammy.
He lacks any kind of impact in the battlefield asside of his assists
He has a really good TAC game as well.
Doom’s is just easier to learn and kills faster.
I’ve been practicing a Firebrand/Dormammu/Shuma Gorath team recently and I quite like it.
I love firebrands general speed and flight cancel pressure and the DHC with Dormammu can work for more damage or another unblockable.
I’ve found that Shuma gorath can be called in very well from Firebrands wall bounce which can help get a more damaging combo after an unblockable than firebrand could otherwise do himself. Mystic ray is still one of my favourite assists in the game for coverage and annoying other characters who like to fly around.
I’d love to try Amaterasu sometime though since I loved okami to bits and STILL have not tried to pick her up properly.
Back onto FireMammuGorath, what would you guys reccomend as an assist for Firebrand? I’ve been using the heavy version of his swoop to help get people off of Dorm or Shuma if they’re being pressured too much since it’s fairly fast or need an extra second for Dorm to call his powers, I just have no idea how his other assists fair in comparison.
If you like ShuMammuBrand, you should check out AZ Angelic. That’s his team and the hard tag setups with Shuma are absolutely ridiculous.
You can see a lot of his stuff on the BrokenTier stream back when they did the 3 day Danger Room session:
I wish Shuma wasn’t a charge style character or I might consider picking him up.
As for FB’s assists, none of them are terrible, but none of them are particularly great either.
Missile H is pretty good since, as you said, it acts sort of like a GTFO assist. However, Missile M is also pretty good as a combo extender, especially for Dormammu and Shuma. Spitfire is a decent OTG, it’s just generally too slow to take advantage of.
The major problem with all of his assists is that he’s really vulnerable to punishment if you’re reckless with them or don’t protect him.
Hey CalDW19940, just wanted to say that I know you’re local to me from the other thread you posted and I also play Firebrand. I’ve been playing him since Ultimate dropped and while I’m not the best I still know some stuff with him. If you ever want to practise Firebrand mirrors or play some games, come up to Dundee! I can play a bunch of other teams okay too so I can give you some matchup experience too, and we’ve got some good players up here too, including the imo UK’s best Rocket Raccoon player.
