My Firebrand raw tag into Strange combo. I think everyone probably already know this, but its pretty fun to make a video. Sorry for the extremely bad quality and shit execution
Don’t know if bolts or eye is good for Firebrand (I am guessing it is since its a beam assist) but it does let him TOD off a random forward throw or air grab.
Yeah it works on large characters (MODOK and I would imagine Sent, Hulk, etc) but I was wondering if there was something more universal. Well I’ll keep messing around.
As far as Strange assists I use Bolts, but that’s because I already have Skrull and Tenderizer does essentially the same thing as EoA. Plus Bolts lets Skrull combo off a raw meteor smash.
So…I’m currently running Morrigan / Dante, and I’ve been soul searching for a third character for a long time. I’ve always liked firebrand, but never played him seriously.
Could firebrand / Morrigan / Dante be a viable team?
Honestly, what would be the optimal team I could make using Firebrand / Morrigan (Morrigan is non negotiable. She’s always been my main in every game she’s been in since Vsav, and it’s staying that way).
I would run Morridoom, but I absolutely hate anchor doom. I feel like Dante is a lot more balanced…and Jam session is still good for Morrigan (one of her best assists, the other two being missiles and vajra), although its undeniably not as good for lockdown as missiles is.
Could I get any theory / input on this team? If I have to ill run Firebrand / Morridoom, but I don’t particularly want to run Morridoom unless I have no other option.
Also, since I’m here already:
What does Firebrands solo damage potential cap out at? And does he have good solo resets? And lastly, what can he net damage wise solo off a throw?
Thanks for any and all responses. I
Appreciate it.
I’ll respond to this as best as I can, though anyone else is welcome to contribute or correct me where I’m wrong.
While Doom is a great support for both Morrigan AND Firebrand, each character actually prefers different assists. Obviously Morrigan would prefer Missiles, and while Firebrand can make adequate use of Missiles, he actually much prefers Plasma Beam. It’s easily one of FB’s top 3 assists overall. In other words, yes, Doom will work as a third, but one of the characters is going to be sacrificing something, so if you aren’t all that set on playing him, you don’t have to force it.
Jam Session, on the other hand, is an assist that greatly helps both Morrigan and Firebrand on top of Dante being a much more proficient anchor than Doom. The only real issue is that you lose a good horizontal assist. If you’re willing to put the work into Dante, he’s probably the superior choice for Morribrand.
With meter: ~590k
Without meter: ~400k (might be a little less)
His solo resets are OK, though not spectacular. He can pick up air throws off of light attacks thrown in the middle of ground combos because his hit stun goes down so fast. Zak Bennett also has an air combo reset similar to the one FChamp does with Magneto.
From a fireball OTG to full combo with Dark Fire finish he gets around 350k or so. Without hyper finish it’s only a measly 200k. Ironically, if you use Dark Fire immediately after throw he actually gets close to 400k. Kind of silly, really.
As a general rule, unless it’s one of those characters that’s on stream an absurd amount of the time, such as Doom Vergil or Dante, most characters need to have a team built around them rather than slapped on anchor. Firebrand is no exception(infact, he’s a notable example). You’ve got a Morrigan team, so I guess focus on that and hunt assists. I’d recommend Taskmaster(Any arrows), Strange(Bolts), or Vergil for obvious reasons. I would say Strider too, but DAAAAAAMN that’d be a meter hungry team.
What do you guys do when you land a happy birthday? I’m running Firebrand(B)/Doom(B)/Ammy(B) and I haven’t yet found a way to capitalize when this happens.
As far as I know FB doesn’t have anything good for Happy Birthdays.
The best I think you can do is LMHS, air H, QCB+M, H, land HS, air MMHS, land Dark Fire -> Sphere Flame (if you’re in the corner. If you’re not then maybe a THC? I don’t know I use Doom/Skrull, I can’t help much with Ammy). Someone correct me if there’s something better.
Generally speaking, the best answer to a happy birthday is Dark Fire > DHC (insert teammate here). It depends on who you have second.
As soniczero said, DHC to Sphere Flame is probably the best choice for your specific team.
So my current lab team is Firebrand-b/Doom-a/Dante-a. Trying to get a conversion off of someone taking the hit from Jam Session on incoming and it is a lot harder than Tenderizer On the other hand, Doom/Jam is a lot stronger than Doom/Tenderizer (plus I get Jam Session as a neutral for FB). Any help appreciated.
I messed with unblockables off of Jam Session and unfortunately, they’re just not very practical. To be able to combo off of it on hit, you almost need to predict they’ll take the hit, then fly up there and hit them. It’s a really small window. LB or XF helps but the loop is already hard to keep meter positive and you only have one XF.
I recently asked Apology Man online who he thought the best Firebrand team was that didn’t have Doom on it.
According to him, the best non-Doom team is FB/Dorm/Dante, which is pretty legit. I’m in process of learning Dante now (which is probably a good idea regardless), but I’m also curious if anyone here has alternate suggestions.
On a related note, Jam Session is the king of assists when it comes to unblockable setups. It literally prevents anyone (sans Sentinel, Morrigan, and Phoenix) from escaping. I’m aware of the issue that Kresent mentioned above regarding them taking the hit, but I’m more having trouble consistently calling it at the right time before the block stun wears off. Thoughts?
Super Skrull works just as fine. Your choice between thetwo lies in your 2nd character. If he’s a competent anchor, use Dante. If you need an anchor, go with Skrull
So I run Firebrand (Charge) / Frank (Cart) / Iron Man (Repulsor Blast) as a primary team. I am thinking of running Firebrand (Spit) / Iron Man (Beam) / Skrull (Tenderizer) as a secondary team. What do you all think?
Dorm isn’t a terrible anchor, but unless he gets the room to get started, he tends to fall flat before he can do anything worthwhile. However, I personally feel that Dorm and Skrull don’t have enough synergy to put them both in the back on the same team. Admittedly, most Firebrand teams are designed to be pretty frontloaded, but something about the two of them just doesn’t seem to gel with me.
Support-wise, he’s possibly an even better teammate than Doom; Unibeam and Repulsor are both retarded good for Firebrand. Unfortunately, it means you’ll need to play Iron Man at some point. Of your two teams, though, the second one seems a little more viable because I don’t feel Iron Man helps Frank very much. I could be wrong but I don’t see it. Plus I’d rather play Tony second than be stuck with Anchor Man.
Anchor Iron Man is a good deal stronger than most people think and he has some great tech to help out Frank. I’ll have a video on it soon.
I was mostly thinking the second team due to things like death loops and just running a solid team overall. Unibeam allows for instant jL overheads into landing jH, not needing to Bon Voyage. It gets some nasty confirms for sure.
Skrull gives you the thing you lose out on for running Unibeam. I’m a little worried about Iron Man coming in without XF3 or a good assist, though putting Skrull first means no TAC infinites or THC brutality. Other than that one synergy gripe, I’m sure it’d be really good.
