3: as already established, the chinese are INSANELY materialistic (we all know of and had a good laugh at the “soul-stealing toilet” incident*): EVERYBODY’S a gold-digger. So yes, under the old one-child policy, they were murking daughters in order to try again for a son who they would pressure the fuck out of to make something of himself so he can hopefully make mama and papa rich.
