Gutless Nubytech SFAE Stick, Noobie Needs Walkthrough!

Hi, i am really new to the whole shoryuken scene and i have done hrs and hrs of research and i still come up short on some questions high and low. I have gutted my nubytech that has been sitting in the garage for years and i have had my friend make me an artwork.

i have bought ps3/pc cthulhu, white happ comp joystick, 6/2 black/white iL buttons and i am stuck. I need to know what tools i need. I have no wires for attaching all buttons/stick to the PCB. where should get/buy these wires?(online preferably). I need a walk through because this is my first attempt at anything related to arcade sticks.
I need all possible links, some might have been ones i already discovered but it would be easy for me to find all possible related links and threads in just 1 spot so i can continue to learn and get better at this. It is ever lasting to read through 300+ pages to find one page of information useful to me. Please if there is anyone out there who could help me do this i would truly appreciate it. Please help point me in the right direction.
Thank You.

Look in the information sticky thread for a site called slagcoin, or just google it. Read the site. It has all the info you will need. After reading it, come back if you still have questions.

Okay i will check slagcoin out first then i will come back. thank you

Okay i have read through slag coin and i got 2 questions. Is the female quick disconnects the wire connects that i should use to wire up my stick/buttons and what is the name if the wire cutter/stripper/crimper pair of pliers? Other than that i think the cthulhu guide on the official page is all i need to connect everything together. If i have a problem on how to exactly attach the wires to the cthulhu board i will just ask. I dont see many noobie threads related to this board and the offical page is 300+ so would take me a long time to find the post i need when it comes time. Thanks again for anyones help. Much appreciated.

EDIT: on LizardLick they have 2 quick connects. Insulated .110 and Insulated .187. im not exactly sure which ones to get.

Get the .187. You need two per button and 8 for the Joystick. You also need to get some extras maybe 20 extra incase you mess up.

Also while on lizardlick get 10 feet of black hook up wire, and maybe or 4 feet of every other color. That should be more than enough for a first timer.
Hook-Up Wire

You should use the black wire to make some daisy chains.

Also if you go to radio shack you will need a wire stripper/cutter/crimper.

ok so i bought the wire cutters and the wire and the quick connects just gotta wait til i get them in the mail. I take it i should daisy chain all 8 buttons and the start and select? also, do you do this with the stick or do you do each part individually? All your guys information has been gracefully appreciated and i am taking it all in very well. The more i know the easier this makes things on me =). Thank you again for all your help.

Yes, you would need to Daisy Chain the stick in addition to the 8 buttons and start select buttons. The stick has 4 directions, essentially 4 “button”, UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT so you would need to daisy chain those for directions along with the 8 buttons and the START/SELECT buttons.

That auto wirestripper that rtdzign suggested is a HUGE help especially for making daisy chains. I bought a blue one instead of a red one. same thing.

Ok check it out. i ran into a minor problem. When wiring all my buttons it came fairly easy because they were labeled. however, i am using the same start/select buttons that the nubytech came with and it only has 2 prongs and they are not labeled. Curious if anyone can tell me how to identify this. Also i bought a IL joystick and it has the numbers 1 , 2 , and 4. If they are layed out the same as the happ comp buttons that i had bought then i dont really need to question myself, but it would be horrible if i connected the side prong ( com ) and it was actually an NC. i am a rookie so i dunno. All the help is greatful. Much appreciation here.

spartan,

its ok that the old start/select have only 2 prongs. then those are the only 2 u will hook up-- the order doesnt really matter since upon pressing the button, the circuit (for that button signal) will be closed/complete, thus activating that signal.

the same can be said for the iL buttons. the prong labeled COM is technically the ground (attach ur daisy chain there) and the prong labeled NO is the one u wanna use for a corresponding button (example: square for ps3). NO means “normally open” which means the circuit is open/incomplete until the button is pressed. this is what u wanna hook up. NC means “normally closed” which means it will always be firing the signal if u attach a wire to it while the COM is attached to the ground wire daisy chain (definitely not what we want) and will only stop firing if u press the button lol.

switching the COM wire with the NO wire wont really matter as long as 1 of the wires is ground and the other is from the button wire. pushing down on the pushbutton will complete the circuit and cause that button to fire. voltage flowing 1 way vs the other will not damage the microswitches used in arcade pushbuttons.

hope this helps. good luck and welcome to the world of joystick modding/building. beware: its an addicting hobby/passtime. lol
