- Sadness. Discipline, Royalty, Right Where You Stand, and Trust Me are my jams. I wanna cop his album now. Guru was one of the greats. B.Y.S. was another one I liked because the lyrics were funny. He’s talking about his fanbase on one line and talking about wreaking you in the next. lol
Listening to the Hard to Earn album now. It reminds of middle school, when I was rocking baggy JNCO jeans and huge-ass t-shirts, break dancing during lunch, and playing Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat after school at the liquor store down the street.
Damn, this is a surprise. I first heard Gangstarr in a skate video in '98. Billy Prislin used “You Know my Steez” for his section in VG8. The flow went perfectly with his smooth style.
I’m not gonna pretend that he was my favorite or that I listened to him all that much, but I had a few of his CDs and his style was always relaxing.

Re: Guru being gay
People have been speculating that he was having a relationship with Solar, the guy who produces his Jazmatazz albums. Since severing ties with Premier, Guru has let Solar control his finances and manage all of his business deals. Solar would tell Guru that Premier and all of his old friends didn’t really care about him and that he, Solar, was his only true friend. There are people that have seen them together that said Guru didn’t even sign autographs for fans because Solar would shoo them away and shelter Guru like he was a child.
Based on information that has been gathered, it seems like Guru was brainwashed by Solar. Either that or he was blackmailed into submission. Solar would openly control the life of a 40 year old man and no one stopped him. One of the most ridiculous aspects of Solar’s control was when people found out that it was actually him who posted from Guru’s twitter account and not Guru. Right after Guru’s nephew made the video saying that Solar blocked Guru’s family from being able to visit Guru while he was in the hospital in a coma, this post appeared on Guru’s twitter.
Now you’re trying to tell me that Guru woke up out of a coma, grabbed his phone, posted that on twitter and then fell back into a coma?
Solar was doing some foul shit during this entire ordeal and I hope he finally gets exposed for what was really going on.

Gangstarr is one of the groups i grew up on and i consider Guru as one of the best mc’s ever to touch the mic. Premier’s beats and his lyrical ability redefined hiphp in my opinion.
