I searched and the only threads I found on this game were closed or made three years ago, so I don’t think anyone will mind a new one.
The title pretty much says it all: Is GBA worth playing? An old friend and I used to have a blast playing it and now an opportunity to get it again has popped up, but I don’t want to waste the money if nostalgia is clouding my judgment. Does anyone have experience with this game and would like to share it?
Gundam Battle Assault 2 is pretty fun. And pretty for a PS1 game. Probably way unbalanced though.
Would be real interesting to see some high level(or as close as you can get with an obscure game like this) match vids.
I’ve heard about II and would get it if I could, but I’m asking about the first one. Although a guy on youtube has some GBA II videos. I wouldn’t know how good his play is though.
I tried to play it the other day with a stick and EPSXE. It can’t read inputs for shit. I haven’t tried it on pad though although I wouldn’t expect it to be any different. Something fun to do with Gameshark though is to throw in Gundams from GBA1.
GBA2 is actually pretty solid, but i think generally u would hafta remove a lot of the cast to make it really competitive…some charaacters that have the shield bubble kinda knock out half the cast like heavy arms, but like me and my friend useto do Rose vs Heavy arms match and they were pretty intense…Rose has kinda like a triangle dash/Yun/Rufus kinda playstyle, so hes kinda like magneto…its funny cause we started playin jus as a joke then ended up playing for the whole night
the main thing that kills GBA2 is that you’re given 3 supers from the start; this makes it so that characters like RX-78 basically need to correctly poke 3 times and you lose
thus it makes the game a little retarded… unfortunately because i <3 it.
if you want a more solid game (all though it has it’s share of brokeness), try Gundam Seed Destiny for the GBA
Used to play it quite a bit (actually still have the game, my bro bought it when it came out and it was pretty damn cheap at $20 or $30 I think). Now I feel like booting it up again for the hell of it.
I played all 3 (and own all 3) and i think it is a good game for casual play. Since you only get 3 super attacks per match, it really limits the kind of combos you can do. Also the 2nd super will do far less damage than the first cuz the game damage scales right then and there.
So from what I’m hearing, II is mad fun. But few people have said anything about the first one, which is what I’m looking at. Did it just fly under the radar, with most people starting with II?
I own GBA2, and it’s an alright game for an anime-based fighting game. The graphics look very good for PSX, but the gameplay is very clunky and I would still rather put time into a Capcom or SNK fighting game. The gameplay is not even half as deep as other more well-respected fighting games. One of my other gripes is the cut scenes for the supers. They take way too long and the English voices are terrible. Also, a lot of the moves are the same! I haven’t even picked the game up ever since I unlocked all the characters.
Basically GBA2 is an average fighting game, and if you’re looking for a more refined mecha-based fighting game you’re better off playing Cyberbots or Tech Romancer.
