He seems a little more complicated Ky is, and in order to be effective, it seems like there’s a bit more of a learning curve involved. And yes, I know about hcf+H. I’ve been focusing on learning BnBs so far and just dicking around in Training mode.
I’ve been playing the game on and off for awhile, but the learning process is pretty slow because I don’t really have the time to go out looking for competition, which is why I’m excited about this port. I’m hoping it’ll come to Vita too.
Huh. Have I not posted in here yet? Surprising.
Anyway, misc thoughts regarding ^Core+ since I feel like using a bulleted list today:

[]At first glance, I was giddy as all hell at the thought of finally having a tourney legal Justice being playable. These hopes are falling though, since we’re now seeing footage/pics of the new ports with Kliff and Justice -not- on the default character select screen. They’re probably still going to be unlockable, which has me concerned they won’t be rebalanced in any fashion (and thus seen as unfit for tourney play). I’ll continue hoping though, since maining Justice has been a GG dream of mine for some time now.
[]Netcode? Meh. It’ll be interesting to see how many new peeps pick this up in between (as mentioned before) rounds of SF4 and MVC3. Here’s to hoping at least some of them stick, since the GG community could definitely use some new blood. I suppose though it’ll be worth hopping in a bit just to represent a little bit of Robo-ky. It’ll be time to show those meatbags how things are done~
[*]The biggest draw for me on this one is finally having a legit version of ^Core that can be played on flat panel TVs. For whatever reason, Guilty Gear just does not play bloody well with TV scalers and I have yet to see any incarnation of it play well on anything other than a CRT. Case in point, friends and I are throwing a local tourney this weekend. While we can easily amass hdmi monitors for Skullgirls and BB, we have extremely few CRTs available specifically for Gear. =\ This one is worth the price tag for me simply due to being “tourneyable” on commonplace monitors/tvs, as well as being able to run training mode on my LCD at home. Netcode is icing on the cake.

Anyway, glad to see a damn good fighter (and one of my favorites) getting an xbla/psn revival. I know the GG community has been wanting this for what feels like ages. Can’t wait for the release! :3
Biggest difference is Kliff and Justice being included as playable characters. (Hoorah fan service!) While I could be mistaken, I’m pretty sure there were no actual character or balance changes between the two.
Besides the return of Justice and Kliff as playable characters (legality is still up in the air) and more modes, nothing. Accent Core Plus on consoles was originally made to add content and address some gameplay bugs. Unless this arcade port of Accent Core Plus comes with any actual balance changes, you’re not missing anything from the original arcade version.
Potemkin is going to make people so fucking salty online it’s not even going to be funny. Unblockable and MEGAPISTOL MEGAPISTOL MEGAPISTOL > POTEMKIN BUSTAH
If i recall correctly these match up where manageable for I-no…its chipp/O-Sol/Sol that nightmare.
I think May is higher but for the most part the teir list doesn’t matter each character have healthy amount of good and bad match ups. (except Eddie, but very beatable)
In all likelihood the rerelease won’t be any less laggy than a PS2 being played on an LCD TV or monitor, but it depends on your make of TV in any case.
If you have #Reload on PC and the netplay patch, you can see the delay for yourself if you go into the ggxxnet_config.exe and set the Delay Frame to 4, then hop into training mode. Assuming ArcSys does the best possible port with the least amount of delay, that is about the level of responsiveness you should expect when playing the game offline when it hits this summer. Set Delay Frame to 6, and that’s would approximate the best possible online connection between two local players. If it went up to Delay Frame 8, that would be your ‘average’ online connection, but you can’t set it that high (lol).
i know , but there is still the fact that chipp dies so easily, for any little mistake
the last time that i checked some tier lists and matchup charts it was considered between 6:4 and some 5.5:4.5, though there are some that still consider it around 6.5:3.5, lol
I really don’t expect that to be the case. The primary issue of a PS2 on LCD is that the PS2 just doesn’t output to even 720. TVs are simply unable to present an image at a lower resolution on the screen, hence scalers come into play. Any TV is going to be scaling a 240p or 480p (if you’re fancy and using prog.scan mode) image from a PS2 to 720. -That- process is what causes the lag that makes Gear unplayable on LCD tvs. I believe you’re only thinking of post processing here, and not the scaler issue that the new port will eliminate from the equation.
The XBLA/PSN port of Gear is going to be based off the Taito Type X2 release. I’m pretty certain this isn’t just them emulating naomi Gear on an X2, but completely porting it to natively run on a new platform. The X2 seems to run natively at a 720 (possibly even 1080, but i’m going to wager the first) resolution. Therefore, when Guilty Gear is ported from Taito Type X2 to XBLA/PSN, the game itself is now being rendered directly to such a resolution. No scaling is even done in the first place (at least by the TV). While there may still be post-processing as TVs are oft to do, it’ll be no worse than running any other “modern” fighter on an LCD.
I believe Nesica is what you’re thinking of, and yes/no. Nesica alone isn’t really enough of a reason to port an older title to newer arcade hardware when the older hardware is just fine. IIRC all it really serves to do is give each player a profile with their PSR and tracking of unlock systems. While this is cool, it alone is not worth the time and money investment.
No, I strongly suspect the entire point of porting ^Core+ to the X2 was simply so they had a springboard to finally bring it over to XBLA/PSN. Porting the X2 to 360 and PS3 seems to be a walk in the park, judging from the high volume of such games we see get ported over. (The only Naomi games I can immediately think of on 360 would be Ikaruga and Triggerheart Exelica.)
It seems you’re thinking from a consumer perspective rather than a business one? If I recall, Nesica offers a different pricing model that favours the publisher? Something like arcade operators lease the machines rather than buying boards? And reduced piracy etc?
