GG was pretty big. All of my friends had and played the game back in the day. I’m wondering if this GG can break mainstream in america, so we have enough people to play so we can annihilate japan.
As long as the game is at EVO, I’ll be happy. I’m not entirely sure why GG and BB aren’t at EVO when games like MK9 and Injustice are. I’m not saying I’ll be at EVO, but I think GG deserves to be taken more seriously than it appears to be.
Arc Games don’t have a strong presence at EVO because Arc doesn’t market well in America. If they even tried, we would have a stronger role in the FGC.
Is very simple actually, before 2009 Evo was about all the games who had communities behind of it, after 2009, more specifically around the time that MK9 was released evo became about those who throw enough money to put their game in the lineup.
MK9, Injustice and SFxT all were selected for the lineup because the publishers put money for that to happen. I am not sure, but i think that it was also the case for SCV.
Wrong, see above.
Also GG, BB and P4A have active scenes on USA, is just that the focus of evo have shifted, i don’t remember well what was the number but from what i recall P4A had more entries than Injustice, and the same happened for MK9 the year before and by that time BBCSEX was a side tournament.
To be honest, calling other games bad is the best way of getting no one new to play your game :).
I’m sure GG will get play but I don’t know if it will be as popular as before. SF came right at the tail end of the Karate/Kung Fu Boom of the late 80’s - early 90’s, GG came during the Anime boom in the USA, those times were the best possible moments for each game to be released. Now that the USA’s anime love has faltered a bit, I don’t think GG might be able to ride that wave. However, with the growth of the FGC, I’m sure it’ll get new players, especially the Marvel heads.
Its still an “anime” game and like every new fighting game that comes out, people are investing in the idea that the game will be good rather than knowing how good it will be a year or 2 down. You’re going to have the typical old GG fans who won’t like the way the game has changed and just won’t play it. They’ll be a small amount of people, but like every fighting game they’ll make themselves very vocal.
Other than that GG was always the most popular anime game in the US and unless Capcom does something crazy, it’ll be the number 3 game at tournaments behind SFIV and Marvel and do well sales wise.
