Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- one of life's gilty pleasures

A lot of that shit is hard to gauge what with PC sales numbers for basically everything being a giant mystery, but I haven’t heard any developer say their release on PC went poorly. Capcom said they weren’t happy with Vanilla SF4 on PC, but even then they said that it did sell well.

Capcom stated they were happy with the PC sales of SF4. Ed Boon in a tweet said the PC sales of MK9 did better than expected. PC version of Skullgirls is the version used by the majority of it’s community.

Tracking sales is difficult as most PC gamers gone digital for their purchases. Unless Steam, GoG, Gamersgate and other digital retailers release the numbers we’ll never know them. Going by the developers word and financial quarterly is the best way to gauge success.

As for Tournaments, Valle switched over to the PC version of USF4 for WNF.

Eh kinda sorta not really lol. The producer of BB said he wanted a US xbox 360 ver of BBCP but there was developer/publisher conflict. The game is too big file size wise to straight port to 360 and needed extra man hours/money to try and compress it or remove/rework some content, publisher didn’t want to pay up if it wasn’t gona be an easy port like the last BB games so it never happened.

It’s possible to dual mod a ps3/xbox360 stick for PS4 use but I think it’s mostly pad hacks, at the moment. MadCatz also said they’ll be releasing their PS4 stick (backwards compatible with PS3 iirc) before Xrd launches. I’m not sure if they meant the JPN release of Xrd of the NA release.

Thanks. I’ll post it up when we start releasing them.

So is this the final roster? Or is ASW planning on one or two more characters?

With all the hype surrounding Xrd i strongly doubt i will be getting it day one. I’ve been on record saying i’m not a fan of the roster and it seems this is indeed the final roster as it stands, with DLC characters being added down the road

i refuse to pay for OG characters. I’ll gladly accept them free of charge though

Still technically brand new characters though.

Thanks for the insight (@johngrimm, too).

I always take statements like:

with a grain of salt. Where I work, “Better than” is code for “exceeded minimum requirements”. Still, not trying to be argumentative, I don’t play on PC (spend all day working on one) and am just trying to figure it out.

As for Skullgirls and PC being the dominant platform I suppose that is to be expected given the context of its production (crowdfunding etc).

Still, it is interesting that there is no real established benchmark for determining the success of a title in the PC market yet.

Meanwhile, as for Xrd… I love the franchise a lot but suck so hard, gonna wait this one out for a fw months I think… gonna be a lotta monsters online, beasts been champing at the bit to go wild on a current gen GG…

You have had your eyes closed the past 10 years if you think Arksys is going to DLC the rest of the GG roster.

Theyre going to re-update GGXrd at least 3 times the same way they did with ALL the other GG, BB and P4 titles.

Besides, why is 17 characters not enough. The bitching and whining when all people are ever going to do is play top 5 makes no sense to me.

Because GGXXAC/GGXXAC+R balance is actually pretty decent so that there is more representation than just “top 5 characters.” People that lost their mains from XXAC series still don’t have their distinct mains in Xrd and are simply waiting for their characters to return as DLC. And updating/reupdating isn’t a mutually exclusive concept to DLC. The focus isn’t even the means of using DLC, it’s more about the the XXAC characters will make an inevitable return via physical updates and DLC updates.

Nigga you’re the one that seems to be bitching over nothing. Calm down

Oh well.

Its not like the return cast play exactly like they once played. Zato is practically a totally different character with homage to his old playstyle, eddie/shadow play-style is much different from AC+R. So once old faces start to show up we will be in the same boat as with the Makoto bandwagon in SF4 that cried for her and didnt even touch the character until she got buffed later down the road.

I sympathize with people missing their mains but eventually they will be back and if you cant find an alternative out of the 17 characters already here I doubt one character is going to sell you on this.

I’m quite new to GG, I played the PC Port of AC and to be frank it was a bad port. So I’m not one to judge what looks like a damn cool fighter.

Can anyone quickly give me an overview of how GG plays and what the community base is like? Is it considered an air dasher or is it a more grounded fighter? Is it categorised as an “Anime Fighter”? Etc.
I’ve seen some gameplay demos of Xrd so far and it looks promising, I’m thinking about getting into it. And hell, maybe UNIEL might get a PS4 version, that game looks quite interesting as well.

It’s the classic airdasher game, so I guess it should be considered one :stuck_out_tongue:
How ground based it is depends on the matchup, but air combos mean taking to the air badly hurts.
It’s a game very much oriented around block pressure and okizeme instead of combos that last years.
It’s the kind of game where characters are crazy and strong and do cool things, but there are universal defenses to keep most checkmate situations at bay.
There’s no Dan. Even Pochumpkin is scary as fuck.

I’d still say Potemkin is super underrated. I feel one of the few things they should give to him is the reel back on cr.S and AC+R Heat Knuckle. Even then I think that would elevate him really high up there with those two things on top of the new stuff he has like Trishula YRC, better normal throw, Hammerfall YRC, and 6K Shoulder Tackle loops and pressure. I guess they can give him back the overhead by making it 3K, but I think he’s really good now. 2HS seems to land more consistently now as an anti air and people can convert well with 2HS counterhits canceled into Hammerfall feints. Even the other Potemkin players picked up on FAB’s tech now in general match videos. His stun and damage output potential is high.

I remember when people were calling him shit near the beginning life of the game and said the new 6K and Trishula were worthless. Welp

Here’s to hoping that the PC port of BB:CS by another company means that XRD is gonna join the master race so I don’t have to touch a PS4. Though that hope admittedly assumes that the enviably bad sales of a port of an outdated title is used as an excuse to not port an up to date title… must stay positive. Must stay positive…

Well, I’d hate to have to buy a PS4 stick or have to ship my stick out to a 3rd party just to play Xrd the proper way, so here’s me wishing for a PC port also. Taking things into consideration the chances seem slim, I signed the petition but I doubt that will change any minds.

I’m gonna go check out some more gameplay of it, and look at some of the older versions to see how hype it was back in the earlier days. Anybody have suggestions for which version of GG to look into for tournament footage?

AC vanilla has some seriously hyped matches due to the speed and stylistic differences, but AC is day-long combo city and the neutral game is… problematic. I’m biased towards reload due to nostalgia myself. You should be able to find SBOs or other high level events of both versions.

If you want to get some good experience for GG I suggest you pickup #R for PC, it’s the closest version of GG to Xrd and the netcode is much better than any other GG release. I’ve seen Max, Renic and a few other notable people playing it in preparation for Xrd.

Extend is only one game behind. Also gonna consider the fact some players would like to experience the story of BB in release order.

Just look up footage of AC or +R. Watch some old Tougeki/SBO matches since those are pretty great, even for older GG games. Also, Xrd is coming to the PS3 as well, you won’t need a PS4 to play it.

#R will not prepare you any better than +R would. Play what game you can get access too, or what one you can get matches against people in. If you can’t play against anyone, just spend time in training mode and looking up a tutorials, guides, or just things to try in general while you get used to the feel of the game.

Do that in conjunction with watching Xrd videos to see what happens in the new game. Read up on what you can for how things work in the game. Practice and Dustloop are your friends.
