He should be in the arcade mode for the random fights, I would think. He was announced as the first new character before there were many characters to begin with. Ram is only in because she is the final boss for arcade mode.
3 hours in and no signs of him. Slayer and I-No seems to be amongst the rarest. One encounter so far for each.
It could slightly be somewhat based on the character you play as well. I’ve seen videos and pictures of Ky fighting Axl, but I have yet to run into him as Sol.

This is going to be the first time we hear the vast majority of the GG cast in English. Wonder if they’re going to bring back Troy Baker/Liam O’Brien/Yuri Lowenthal from GG2 Overture to voice Sol/Ky/Sin again, respectively.
I really hope they allow people to select voices on a per-character basis. I’d love to give the English VAs a try, but I don’t think I could listen to a Sol not voiced by Daisuke Ishiwatari or Joji Nakata. It just wouldn’t be the same.
God I hope not.
Troy Baker is too Hollywood for dubs nowadays, everything he used to do is getting replaced by Matthew Mercer.

So are the character intros in-game models or 2d animation? I legit can’t tell, they’re that good
If I understand correctly, they’re straight up models that transition seamlessly, same thing for when you’re in a match and you get the 3d look on dust.
They’re 3D models animated in a 2D way. If something looks 2D, it probably is. Additionally, crazy warping and enlarging and such of models are done just like you would do them with sprites, make a new model. Like When Slayer gets super buff for that one punch attack, his model isn’t actually getting bigger, it’s just a different, resized model being swapped out instantly.

Big question: Do I buy this on launch of wait for some sort of review? I really wanna support the franchise, but I’d rather not throw away 60 dollars on the shitty version of the game.
Please tell me someone managed to rip the character select theme. It’s the only track missing from the OST.
If you’ve never played any of the Guilty Gear games you’ve got multiple options to determine whether you want this game. If you’ve got a PS4 you can easily set up a JPN account and try the demo since you can get a 14 day trial of JPN PSN Plus.
You can watch multiple match videos on youtube and see if the game is to your liking based on how the game play works. I’m just going to tell you now that this game is like every other Guilty Gear in terms of game play, pacing, and depth so if you’ve played a previous GG game then you know what to expect. From a visual perspective this game is absolutely gorgeous, especially in 1080p, and runs at a constant and smooth 60fps. It’s truly worthy of a next gen fighter. You shouldn’t even need to question whether Xrd is a shitty installment in the franchise since none of the GGs were shitty installments/versions to begin with.
To save time and money, the entire cast is being voiced by Nolan North.
If what you dont want is to buy this game now only for Guilty Gear Xrd-//%nd[slice]## to release next year with 3 new characters and then Guilty Gear Xrd-//%nd[slice]##$ after that with 4 more then I’d just suggest you hold out.
ARKSYS milks these franchises and Guilty Gear is what everyone was playing Blazblue and Persona for in the first place. Those games were placeholders for this game, this is the game people wanted.
On the same note, part of the fun is playing a game and watching it evolve with each new update.
