Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- one of life's gilty pleasures

I’m talking about Xbone and Microsoft.

No its probably nothing like Paperman technique. They just fine tuned they’re toonshaders/textures to perfection.

This, the Paperman technique isn’t something that can be done in real time.

Trying to illustrate the cause of the perceived stumpiness in Ky’s new design by directly comparing GGXX Ky with GGXrd Ky, side-by-(your)-side. (hehe ^^) (fig. a). Overall, the frame/skeleton of his...

Oh fuck me! I just realized that almost nothing in that trailer, not even the close up “animated” scenes is hand drawn.

That is the only reason why i am not really mad that they went 3d, all the animated scenes don’t look 3d at all. No one believed me that those were the same 3ds of the characters while fighting.

Spoiler

But i am still kinda sad that they are not using 2d sprites

As far as I can tell, the only hand drawn character there is Eddie when we see him reflected in Millia’s eyes.

I am actually not sure that he is 2d, to me he also seems 3d due the angles on some points of his hair.
Is like they really want to show off how good are those 3ds that they can fool the viewer into thinking that they are not 3d models.

With this they will have more cinematics on the story mode, not to mention battle intros, battle outros, hell, even the ichigeki hissatsu attacks.

You know, I few years ago I said something about how companies need to keep pushing 2.5D so that the medium/artform could be pushed and eventually made to look as good as the old sprite based stuff. Well, it seems that Arc was secretly pushing harder than anyone else. Seeing their progress here makes me feel a bit more secure about the future of the genre.

He looks kinda different from Sol, Ky and Millia though. The linework seems thicker and the shading flatter.

And with this also comes the temptation for overly long cinematic supers.

So what is the biggest concerns or issue that og GG fans/players could have given the trend of todays devs wanting to make everything accessible. Im not familiar at all with the mechanics so idk what they could potentially make accessible for newer gg players.

As has been mentioned in discussions dating all the way back to 2009 (and maybe even earlier) FRCs seem to be the biggest concern.

There was an interview a couple of years ago where they said that if Guilty gear ever came back it would be made more accessible.
Also I’d just like to throw this out there too that post MVC3, BB and a dozen other games that have come out since Guilty Gear was originally released; Guilty gear was a bit of a system shock for people back when it first came out with all of its features, but game feature have increases and guilty gear still has this mythical level of hardness that people hold it to when a lot of games have caught up to it. There are just a bunch of people who have never played guilty gear who just know that “it is complex”, but really it not nearly as bad as that legend has grown with new players.

On the contrary, the only interview where they adressed the subject Ishiwatari stated that he thinks that there are other ways to bring interest on the game besides dumbing it, he also said that they could implement an easy mode for those who have problems with the regular game, but he stated that GG is a type of game that he feels that rewards certain type of player, and that he wanted to keep it like that.

Many of the concerns actually came from something that Pachi told to Elvenshadow. He was the one who said that if he were the person directing the game, he would dumbing it by removing stuff like the FRC’s and the Slashback.

:open_mouth: so the legend of the godly higher than thou execution barrier of GG is just a myth? And that is all I ever hear is that it’s complex, making it sound like even the basic attacks are balls to the wall hard. And still no release date for +R in the states?

GG isn’t easy by any means. But it’s a fair deal harder than BB.

Blazblue and P4U being “easy” is just a successful PR lie. All those games have easy stuff and hard stuff…

GG is way less complicated than what people want to make it be.

Yeah, like winning with Kanji.

Rimshot.

I find BlazBlue somewhat harder for me to get into than Guilty Gear. >_>

But fighting games aren’t supposed to easy. They’re supposed to be accessible. :stuck_out_tongue:

This a thousand times.
