Single player mode is the reason MK9 sold so well. I don’t understand why these other developers don’t give one of their interns fifty bucks to write a shitty story, put it to 50 hours of cutscenes, and triple their sales without screwing up the competitive modes.
Most of the casuals (majority of people who buy fighting games) play for the single player fluff first, then go online for a bit, get their ass kicked and go away. That’s pretty well known by now I would say.
The people who buy fighting games for the competition are in the minority. There’s a considerable number of those people and that’s who they were made for, but they’re not really the majority of the sales. You have to have both online and offline content before a casual even considers a fighting game, but for them the single player content is what’s going to keep them occupied the most. Unless they’re really open minded they’re not going to want to take the ass whuppings required to be a stable player online or offline.
I was thinking, perhaps since the new RC colors are yellow and purple, the developers have left themselves the opportunity to bring FRCs back in the future. Also I’ve read the only real difference between red and purple are when they are used. Is there no other difference? I would imagine some sort of meter gain modifier on the purple RCs…
By reading the paid reviews that rated it so highly so media outlets still have favorable relationships with developers and publishers in able to get the pre-launch copy to review the said game to maintain an edge over the competition.
Most of the gaming community as a whole are naturally uninformed, it’s not a matter of trust…it’s more like they don’t know any better. If IGN, Kotaku, and GameInformer all say Call of Duty is a good game, then your average run of the mill gamer will believe it to be so. You, me and many of other fortunate informed individuals all know that reviews are opinions and should be taken as such…it just so happens that not everyone “want” to think for themselves so they seek the opinions of other people…most of the time…of popular opinion, and go with the flow. I think there are more that just 3 million people who trust game reviews…and it’s not hard to believe this either.
Anyways, I found it interesting that on Millia’s clothes it reads “Still in the Dark” on the belts and “Curiosity killed the Cat” around the cat emblem.
I highly doubt we’ll see FRCs return, at least not as how we remember them. Daisuke already stated that he didn’t like how they (and Force Breaks) made 25% tension options better than 50% tension options. Also, IIRC Pachi mentioned something along time ago about FRCs being the one thing that he thought was holding the series back from a larger audience (or something to that effect).
At the most we’ll get an FRC analogue that isn’t as useful but with lower execution requirement… oh wait, we already do, they’re called YRCs.
PRC have startup, you can get hit before the pose and still lose your meter. I hear YRC also has startup but haven’t seen anyone get hit out of one, yet.
False Roman Cancel were probably a real balancing nightmare for them. I remember getting XX and thinking how much of a pain putting a FRC on something would be for the team to play test. If you think about it, every FRC is not only a new mixup tool, but is potentially a combo extender for half the cost of their originally designed combo extender, Roman Cancel. If you look over the history of the XX series, some of the things that put a character in to the A or S tier were really good FRC’s/FB’s. #R Dizzy, looking just combo-wise, IceSpike FRC was extra damage AND a combo extender rolled in to one, for just 25%. AC Slayer, Big Bang Upper is the same thing. If you didn’t have a 25% combo extender that also dealt hefty damage, you were kinda in a sad state. Notice in the revamped RC system, any RC used outside of a mixup is always 50% meter?
Hey guys, I picked up AC+R to familiarize myself with the game and to start gittin’ gud.
However I’d like to learn Slayer and I’m having difficulties finding resources on his combos and other things, his section on dustloop is very out of order and not clear.
Yeah his section doesn’t have a good 101 combo thread anymore. Well, it’s out of date. But reading all the +R threads, which is like…14 pages total? will show some things. 5H air hit now slides, so you can 5H>2H>jump air combo, 5H>Undertow>6H/jump air combo, or 5H>Mappa>continue with (2P>)5K>Mappa>stuff. I really just started playing his +R version yesteryda, and while I can do combos ad stuff, I don’t feel like I’d be a good source of it. Just ask a question in one of the DL threads.
He’s a character who can win with good fundamentals though, so that’s good.
