Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- one of life's gilty pleasures

I’m pretty excited over this.
I played a bit of GGX and GGX2, but then a whole floodgate of GG titles came out and I lost track.

I like the idea of using 2.5D models, I just really don’t like how they’ve made the characters look so far.

I’m hoping they get as many of the old V/A’s on board as possible. But they really shouldn’t overdo the voice effects! The vocal effects in Blazblue were just way too much.

Just keep it like the old games. Also, please don’t fuck up Baiken.

He means people chatting a lot on BB and P4A. In GG happens much less, and while i really don’t mind, i think that many people would like to stay the way it is, with few lines being spouted by the chars

Nothing is bad as it was in SBX. That shit was ridiculous. I just hope they keep it to the 3 voice sets and nothing more. Don’t need character specific lines during battle.

There are stll character specific lines during battle on GG though.

There’s a noticeable lack of shading and material deformation. I guess it’s just a side effect of the move to 3D but I’m hoping they spruce up the sprite(?) work during development. Colours seem duller as well.

I don’t think they’re locked in to using the ue netcode considering that I think i remember that the ue licence gives them permission to add extensions or modify the code directly as long as it isn’t sold or shared without epic’s agreement. Might have to look into that. I don’tknow the specifications of the ringedge 2 board, but if it’s less powerful than the new consoles and the unreal engine can run more effeciently on them, then i think that a modified version of their current netcode (which has worked fine for me) could be used if ue can render faster on the newer consoles.

I’m so hype for this. Some don’t like that it doesn’t look as gritty, but i fucking love the amount of color. I miss colour and i feel we hardly see it nowadays outside of Nintendo and indiegames. After seeing this I seriously want an arcsys 3D-platformer seeing what they can do with 3D models. Jesus, i’m drooling all over myself.

Completely off-topic and I’m probably the only one who thinks this and i’m probably gonne get lynched for this, but the handling of FRC should probably be changed for this game. either removed (which i think would be bad) or widen the window (better alternative). Since GG emphasises pressure so much and some FRCs are vital to get damage or oki, the emphasis on FRCs breaks the game to some extent when you’re playing in an online environment and on a sub-optimal monitor, despite good netcode. which is basically how i have to play the game. There’s no real competition in norway and i pay a whooping $900 for the place where i live and that’s not accounting for electricity, internet and daily living expenses, so i can’t afford a new monitor to play games lag-free.

Missing that FRC is at times so heartbreaking because a moment of lag came and you’re playing against a good Eddie who’s shadow gauge just replenished and you’re Vanilla AC zappa with the sword and you just burned half your meter.

I know that’s kind of a scrub-quote wanting to widen FRC windows because i play under sub-optimal conditions, but i do think that it could be a good thing to ease new people in to the game while still retaining some difference from BB. BB has a sub system for nearly each character, GG has less character specific systems (although not entirely true) but more ways to efficiently use your meter to make the opponent flinch under pressure.

Given that this is a new engine, which I’d like to think was designed with netplay in the cards unlike the previous, I’d like to think this wouldn’t be needed. Rather than pretending NRS are competent and we should pay any mind to their failings regarding netcode, lets just remain aware that ASW has high standards for netplay, Accent Core aside(but again, new engine).

OMFG!! I cry everytime… I can’t wait for this even though i’m probably mad bias because my first FG’s were MVC2 & Guilty Gear!

I really hope they add in subtle deformation and size changes/stretch. Heck even Capcom’s engine does that.

Also, colours remind me of Hard Corps: Uprising for some reason (must be the desert setting).

Actually, I’m hoping that they can adapt some techniques like client side prediction that you see in non-fighter netcode since that shit is basically a client-server implementation of rollback code (or more precisely, rollback code is a p2p implementation of it).

I figure we’d just call it “Guilty Gear X Third” and leave it at that.

I agree, I mean that definitely seems to be what they’re going for in the first place.

Anyone notice that naked Dead Angle that Ky does @1:26? I think it’s a cool idea to put something like that into a new gg. I think they should milk out all of the mechanics and make everything available at all times. For example, maybe while you’re getting hit with a combo, you can use some of your meter to half the hitstun of your attacker’s next move, making it so you can tech faster out of it. You would waste your meter if they could connect their next move before your hitstun was halfed and had tech mashed out, or you would break out of their combo and live because they tried a too damaging combo with moves that deal massive hitstun. It’s kind of an inbetween version of a burst and a dead angle.

I also agree that they should make frcs and slashbacks easier though, so that newcomers can have an easier time with the mechanics.

Slashback needs to be changed so your character doesn’t FREEZE so much after a slashback is achieved. The initiator should recover at least 1 frame faster, or maybe have the attacker make a whiff animation so that punishing is cleaner.

Yeah, that kinda sucked. I kinda like the ac announcer, but most don’t it seems. I would honestly get the vanilla tekken 6 announcer and have him sensually whisper counter, romantic and all that good stuff

That’s Ky’s forward+punch. It shares the same animation as his Dead Angle.
